Country stars react to Mindy McCready’s suicide

Mindy McCready.

It’s been a tragic twenty-four hours for the country music community after learning about the passing of singer Mindy McCready. The “Ten Thousand Angels” artist was found dead from an apparent suicide last night in Arkansas. Mindy was 37 years old and leaves behind a six year old and a nine-year old son.

See what some of country’s brightest stars had to share about the sad news:

Oak Ridge Boys: We sang “Farther Along” last night in honor of Mindy McCready. One day we will know!!!!!

John Rich: Very sad to hear about Mindy McCready. When I was in Lonestar she was our label mate and we were friends. A tragic end to a talented life.

Jana Kramer: So sad to hear about the loss of Mindy. What an insanely talented woman.

Michelle Wright: As you may know Mindy McCready has passed on. She was a young promising country music artist in the mid ’90′s but faced a number of challenges and I’m so sad that she lost the battle with addiction and mental illness which can also cause depression. I’ve been sober now for several years and I know how hard it can be sometimes. RIP Mindy.

Jimmy Wayne: RIP @mindymccready We met 14 years ago @ Acuff & Rose. Who’d thought 14 years later on this day…. #why

Jason Blaine: Sad to hear about the passing of Mindy McCready. Thoughts & prayers for her young children. Tragic situation.

Carrie Underwood: I grew up listening to Mindy McCready… so sad for her family tonight. Many prayers are going out to them…

Wynonna Judd has been forced to postpone her upcoming Canadian tour dates due to her husband’s serious motorcycle accident. Michael Scott “Cactus,” Moser, who works as her drummer, and Wynonna were on their own bikes in Deadwood, South Dakota on Saturday night when Cactus collided with an oncoming vehicle. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The accident occurred before her show in Deadwood. Wynonna was not involved in the accident.

“The outpouring of prayer and support from friends, family and fans has been a blessing to both Cactus and I. Cactus is a champion. I love him deeply and I will not leave his side.”

The pair were married this past June in Tennessee. Her upcoming Canadian dates scheduled for this week will be postponed until further notice. We here at Keepin’ it Country wish Cactus a speedy recovery and hope to see them both on tour again soon!

Jake Owen Seeing Stars That Serve

Jake Owen.

A night out in Nashville had Jake Owen seeing stars and SEALS.  In this case, they were one and the same.

The RCA recording artist attended the Act of Valor movie screening in Nashville last night.  He wrote and recorded a song, “The Best I Can,” for the movie soundtrack and was anxious to see the film, which features active-duty Navy SEALS.

“Getting to hang out with the Navy SEALS last night was truly the biggest honor of my life,” says Jake. “Everyone should go see Act of Valor.  The movie is so intense, but it’s real. It reminds you that every single day you should be very grateful to live in this country.”

On February 14, Jake travels to NYC to perform his Top-10 hit single, “Alone with You,” on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which airs at 12:30 a.m. ET.

By the way, the rest of the Act of Valor soundtrack is pretty much a country collaboration.  Other performers on the album include Keith Urban, Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes, Trace Adkins, Josh Kelley and Wynonna.

Wynonna Judd is heading out on a small solo tour tonight where the Judds left off. Her “Thanks & Giving” tour will be focused on giving back to the fans that have stood by her through her career. The solo dates start today in Phoenix, Arizona where the duo had played their last show together, which the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) had filmed for a mini documentary series “The Judds: Final Encore.” The documentary ended up being the OWN’s highest rated series outside of the network’s launch week on the show’s debut in April.

With the farewell tour and reality documentary behind her, Wynonna is hard at work for her new tour and eighth studio record on Curb that she expects to be out next year. In the spirit of the Holidays, Wynonna plans to host a “Thanks & Giving” meet and greet at every stop on her tour to thank her fans personally.

“It means a lot to me to have such dedicated and hardworking fans that have been with me throughout my journey. Thanking each person is always hard to do, but I’m going to meet as many fans as possible and express my appreciation to them in person” shares Wynonna.
