United Way launches songwriting contest

songcontest

The United Way will be holding a “Live United Song Contest” in Nashville, Tuesday, June 21st at the Listening Room Cafe. While there is a $10 cover charge to enter your song, the proceeds go towards school supplies for Nashville-area at-risk students in co-ordination with the United Way’s Stuff the Bus Day of Action.

Songwriters can submit their songs based on the United Way’s mission to advance the common good. Each song will be judged live by a panel of songwriters and music industry professionals. The winner will have their song featured in an upcoming United Way Day of Action video, with credit and a link to the writer’s website at the end of the video.

Up to ten finalists will be chosen from the entries and will perform their original songs live. The first 25 entries will receive a free Live United t-shirt. There will be a cover charge of $5 at the event, and it will be open to the public.

Judges include Carly Barlowe (Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift), Beth Brightwell (95.5 WSM), Marty Slayton Jordan (George Strait’s backup vocalist, United Way advocate), Dan Keen (Belmont University Instructor of Music Business, former ASCAP VP), and Doak Turner (Owner, the Nashville Muse and Music Starts Here).

For more information on how to enter your original song, see the official website HERE. You have until June 10th to submit your songs, and the finalists will be announced June 14th.
