Toby Keith‘s new single “Drinks After Work” arrives at country radio today. The ode to happy hour celebrates “havin’ fun, two-for-one” and the end of the “ball and chain for the suits and skirts – it’s just drinks after work.” The track is the first single from Keith’s forthcoming album, due out later this year.
Keith is currently headlining the Hammer Down Tour, presented by Ford F-Series, with support acts Kip Moore and Drake White. He is partnering with Ford Trucks to send one fan speeding toward some amazing prizes in the Hammer Down Sweepstakes. The grand prize winner will receive a new 2014 Ford F-150 with EcoBoost®, as well as an exclusive backstage barbecue with Keith prior to one of his shows. Entries are now being accepted at www.TobyKeith.com/Ford.
Country artists may just be the most patriotic out of any genre of music. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that if we were to put together a list of every country song that pays tribute to the military, that we’d have a never ending playlist. With tomorrow being Memorial Day in the United States, we wanted to put together a list of country songs that can help fans remember what this holiday is all about. From artists that perform for USO troops serving overseas, to artists who have hit singles with a remembrance theme, we put together our list for a 2013 memorial day playlist. Our picks aren’t in order.
Check out our picks below and let us know what songs you’ll be listening to for the rest of the weekend.
Originally released in November 2003 as a single from his album “Shock’n Y’all.” The song was a co-write by Toby with Chuck Cannon and became a number one hit on the Billboard U.S. Hot Country Songs Chart for four weeks. It was inspired by the times Toby had met USO troops serving overseas, and he wanted to find a way to show his support for them and their families. The video was directed by Michael Salomon and filmed at an actual US Air Force Base in Edwards, California with off-duty soldiers, reservists and their families.
Country icon Ronnie Dunn is teaming up with Toby Keith for a big benefit concert benefitting the victims of the Moore, Oklahoma concert. The two superstars have been working hard since they heard the news of the EF5 tornado. The two have actually jumped Garth Brooks’ fence to get him into the show… and it worked.
Ronnie said this on Facebook:
We were up all night firing texts and emails. Toby and I climbed over Garth’s fence. He’s in…just rying to figure out how to make it all happen for the best !!!!….but, “he still has to clear things with Trisha” . Janine (Oklahoma girl) just wants me out of the house…period. We’re ALL in agreement…”it’s Toby’s town and we want to be respectful and do the right thing by following his lead.” Everyone involved is feeling like THIS needs to be organic and REAL…..”get down in the dirt”. Take it straight to the people without a tremendous amount of pomp….but BIIIIIG !!!
THIS IS REALLY EXCITING !!! RD
We can’t wait to see who else will join this line-up for a great cause. Our thoughts remain with Moore, Oklahoma.
Toby Keith was one of the country music stars most effected by the devastating Moore, Oklahoma tornado. The EF5 touched down in his hometown, and close to where his sister, Tonni, lives. She was the first person Toby called while in studio with his daughter, Krystal Keith, when he heard the news on his iPad.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Toby admits he’s been thinking about putting together a benefit concert for the area:
“I know as soon as I start sending out some feelers that I’ll get a lot of people in there,” Keith said. “Hopefully, we can use music to heal some of the money problems right away.”
Toby is currently in the area surveying the damage. He was on NBC and FOX news this week discussing the need for relief help and how he knows the town is resilient.
Our thoughts remain with Oklahoma and the victims of the tornado earlier this week. Country music stars are also reflecting and praying for the region after an EF 5, the highest rating a tornado can receive, touched down in the region.
“This storm has devastated the community that I grew up in. I rode my bike through those neighborhoods. I have family and friends in Moore. My heart and prayers go to those that have lost so much. But Moore is strong and we will persevere. God be with you all.”
“I’m thinking about and praying for my beautiful home state and the people in it tonight. Growing up in Tornado Alley, you always know what could happen. It doesn’t change how devastating it is when something does happen. #pray.”
It’s been a pretty big last few weeks for Krystal Keith. The Show Dog Universal artist released her self-titled EP, and debut music video “Daddy Dance With Me.” We had the chance to speak to Krystal earlier this month about the release of her EP, music video, and the best advice she’s ever gotten for the industry, her upcoming full-length album “Whiskey & Lace,” surprising her dad, Toby Keith, at her wedding, crashing the stage as a child at her dad’s show, why she thinks Miranda Lambert is so bad-ass, and much more.
Make sure to pick up your copy of her self-titled EP, which is available now on iTunes or other digital music retailers, and get to know Krystal in our exclusive interview below:
Congratulations to Show Dog Universal’s Toby Keith! The country music icon will be receiving a very special award from The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) and will be named the 2013 “Songwriter Of The Year.” He’ll be given the award in New York City on Wednesday, June 12th.
The NMPA’s Songwriter of the Year Award recognizes songwriters for their accomplishments throughout their career, and for achieving goals that match with NMPA’s mission. Toby has been spending time overseas performing for USO troops, and he is also being recognized for his Toby Keith Foundation charity.
NMPA President & CEO David Israelite had this to say about Toby:
“The NMPA is pleased to recognize Toby keith and U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch for their contributions to songwriting, music publishing and creator’s rights. Toby Keith’s talent as a singer/songwriter is remarkable, but his dedication to fans, his work with the USO, and his commitment to music and songwriting as a craft has greatly influenced the industry.”
We want to send our congratulations to Toby on this cool honor! What’s your favorite Toby moment?
