Lady Antebellum capped off the opening weekend of their Own The Night 2012 World Tour sponsored by GAC on Sunday by setting an all-time venue attendance record at Bloomington, IL’s U.S. Cellular Coliseum.  More than 32,000 fans packed arenas this weekend for the first three dates of the tour.  The new attendance mark breaks the previous record held by superstar Kenny Chesney.

“Opening weekend was more than we ever could have dreamed,” said Lady A’s Charles Kelley.  “There’s been so much anticipation and nervous excitement leading up to our first big arena tour. So much work and preparation goes into putting it together, and then you have to let go and just hope the fans show up.   They didn’t let us down!   We’re honestly blown away.”

Thompson Square Reacts To ACM Nomination

Here’s another item Shawna Thompson can peel off of her vision board:  Thompson Square is nominated for the ACM for Vocal Duo of the Year.

It’s the latest in a long list of honors for husband and wife duo Shawna and Keifer Thompson, who hit the road with Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker starting tomorrow night in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  In typical Thompson Square style, the duo is humbled by the honor:

“We were getting ready for Lady A tour rehearsals when we heard the news this morning. We’re so honored to be nominated for an ACM. It’s been almost a year since our debut album came out and the last 365 days have been a whirlwind of dreams coming true. This year is shaping up to be even busier than 2011 and we couldn’t feel more blessed and be more grateful to our fans, Country radio and everyone out there in the industry who has supported us.”

Keith Urban has rescheduled his All For The Hall annual benefit show. Joined by an all-star lineup, he will hit the stage of Nashville’s Bridgestone Area on Tuesday, April 10, 2012.

The concert, which will benefit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, had to be postponed when Keith received word that he would have to be put on vocal rest after surgery he had to remove a polyp on his vocal chord last November.

The show will feature performances from Keith himself, as well as Vince Gill, Alabama, Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Band Perry, Blue Sky Riders, Diamond Rio, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, The Oak Ridge Boys, Pistol Annies, Rascal Flatts and Thompson Square.

CONCERT REVIEW: Thompson Square — Love, Marriage & Music

thompson_square

In April of 2010 a still little-known Shawna and Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square were in Spokane, Washington as part of a radio station tour.  While sitting in a Guitar Center parking lot they heard their single “Let’s Fight” on the radio for the first time.  It was a big moment for the husband and wife duo and, understandably, they were excited about it.  Keifer was so excited he got out and told a woman in a nearby car to switch her radio to listen to the song.

Twenty months later, Thompson Square doesn’t need to go car-to-car to get people to listen to them.  And they certainly don’t need to look very hard to find people who know and love their music.  Last night Shawna and Keifer were again in Washington State, this time playing with Jerrod Niemann before a sold out crowd at the Snoqualmie Casino.

iTunes Taps Aldean, Church and Thompson Square

iTunes rewind

There’s still three weeks left to the year, but our friends over at iTunes don’t need that time to announce their top picks for 2011.  Here are their Country selections for iTunes Rewind 2011:

Album of the Year:  My Kinda Party by Jason Aldean

Song of the Year:  Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not by Thompson Square

Breakthrough Artist of the Year:  Eric Church

It’s no surprise that all three artists tabbed by iTunes are also nominated for the Grammy Awards.  Aldean has multiple nominations:  Best Country Album for My Kinda Party; Best Country Solo Performance for Dirt Road Anthem and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for Don’t You Want to Stay with Kelly Clarkson.

Thompson Square is nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song for their chart-topping Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not and Church is nominated for Best Country Album for Chief.

“Idol” Advice: McCreery Listens To Underwood’s Wisdom

scotty

American Idol’s latest country winner is taking life lessons from its first country winner.  Naturally, we’re talking about Scotty McCreery and Carrie Underwood.

Underwood, as we all know, has become arguably the most successful of all the Idol winners. (Kelly Clarkson fans might say different, but that’s why we say “arguably”.)  Her list of awards is too long to list here, but her most recent honors came this week at the American Country Awards at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.  The fan-voted show honored Underwood with three awards (which come in the form of a customized Fender Telecaster guitar):  Female Artist of the Year; Female Single of the Year and Female Video for “Mama’s Song”.

The event was McCreery’s first award show and he didn’t go home empty-handed.  Fans voted him New Artist of the Year, choosing him over Thompson Square, The Band Perry, Jerrod Niemann and The Pistol Annies.

Blake Shelton Kisses Thompson Square’s Keifer

Blake Shelton.

You never know what to expect around Blake Shelton. One funny moment at Monday night’s American Country Awards that didn’t make the air would be his kiss: to someone besides his wife! According to People magazine, Blake had a special way of congratulating one half of husband-and-wife duo Thompson Square for their wins – by planting one right on Keifer Thompson’s lips!

“He kissed me on the mouth earlier. He’s got really nice lips,” Thompson said, his wife Shawna by his side, clearly not minding that her husband was kissing someone other than her. “[Shelton's lips] are very soft.”

Keifer was obviously not traumatized from the smooch. He went on to say:

“I think he uses a lot of lip balm,” Thompson said, “strawberry, I think.”
