Blake Shelton Takes On Simon Cowell

The Voice. photo: NBC

Things are about to get interesting tonight. Blake Shelton, who serves as a coach on NBC’s hit The Voice, has had enough of Simon Cowell’s bickering. The always-unfiltered country star told Access Hollywood his true feelings on Simon’s vocalizations over The Voice and X Factor rivalry. The new season of X Factor USA premieres tonight on Fox at 8 pm EST, while the third episode in the 3-day premiere of NBC’s voice will air in the same time slot on NBC.

Simon told Ellen yesterday on her show that he isn’t happy with the way the shows are to air tonight, claiming that The Voice broke an agreement between the two programs to let each other shine on different nights. Simon said:

“I am pissed off about it, because I think there’s a kind of gentleman’s agreement. But we have to rely that the viewers will make the right selection.”

Blake, who isn’t one to keep quiet about whatever’s on his mind, told Access Hollywood today:

“Every time I turn around the guy is mouthing off… Don’t y’all wish you had time to sit around and bitch and moan like that guy does?”

Blake doesn’t want to start in on the blame game, instead suggesting to the reality show king that he needs to worry about X Factor and not what The Voice is doing. He continues:

“Every time I turn around, he’s mouthing off about our show. It’s like, ‘Do your own show! Come on! Put something together there and do your thing’. We’ll just do ours and we won’t mouth off about you. I wish I had that much time. The guy must just have more free time than he knows what to do with.”

Not wanting to be taken the wrong way, Blake believes that there’s room for both The Voice and X Factor this fall. He tries to keep the peace by adding:

“There’s room for all these shows. “That’s what frustrates me when I hear the bickering. I’m like, ‘We’re all doing pretty good. High five!’  But I think the thing that the other shows probably took notice of was – the four of us on The Voice – we’re not judges.”

What do you think? Is there enough room for both shows, or will you be watching one over the other? Who do you think will win the ratings battle tonight? The Voice airs on NBC tonight at 8 pm EST, while X Factor will premiere it’s new season tonight on Fox at 8 pm EST.

Recap: The Voice: Episode 2 – Meet Harry Potter & The Music Man

The Voice Logo
I’ll blame it on technical difficulties, but I may or may not have missed most of the first episode of “The Voice.” I just assumed (and you know what happens when you assume…) that my DVR would record the show, but alas, that wasn’t the case. I’ll be attempting to catch a repeat sometime soon, but, on to episode two!

Luckily for slackers like me, we get a brief recap of the first episode and I learn that each judge – Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine & Blake Shelton – will get teams of 16! Holy cow, what is this, pee-wee soccer?! They each grabbed two contestants in the season premiere, including a guy who sings “Listen” better than Beyonce and a bunch of other random people who sing, cry and have REALLY sad histories.

Our first contestant tonight is 22-year-old Brooklynite, Adriana Louise. I can tell immediately by her tight dress and judges’-chair-matching lipstick that she’s going to garner a creepy CeeLo smile. She wails through Jessie J‘s “Domino,” and all of the judges turn around. CeeLo makes some weird comments about a wedding, but it’s Christina’s finger-wiggling and debut CD (the first Adriana ever bought) that convince her to join “Team XTina.”

X Factor judge, and producer, Simon Cowell isn’t very happy this week. He has been pretty vocal lately about NBC’s decision to run a 3-night season premiere of its hit singing competition The Voice, after Simon says they agreed to let X Factor have Wednesday and Thursday. The Voice aired last night, again tonight, and will tomorrow night. Simon believes that NBC is afraid of losing viewers to X Factor after fans watch the first episode.

In an interview on the Ellen Show, Simon actually boos the Voice and says how he really feels. Watch the interview below and let us know what you think is the better show: The Voice, which features Blake Shelton, or X Factor?

Kelly Clarkson Singing Carrie Underwood’s Praises

Kelly Clarkson & Carrie Underwood.

Original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson might be one of the few not vying for the judge seat for American Idol, but she’s backing one other winner for the role. In a recent interview with US Weekly, Kelly admits that she believes Carrie Underwood would be perfect as the replacement for Jennifer Lopez. In her interview, when asked about if she thought Carrie would be a good judge for the reality competition, Kelly said:

“She would! Didn’t she major in journalism or something? And she can have that face . . . that bluff face! She can put that on! She would be good.”

Kelly probably knows what she’s talking about after being part of three different reality singing competitions. The original winner of Idol, she served as an adviser to Team Blake Shelton on the second season of NBC’s The Voice this year before mentoring her own team on ABC’s Duets. That doesn’t mean that Kelly would want the Idol job, she explains:

“I don’t want to be a judge. Mentor is more my style. And not just mentoring, getting to be a part of the song with them, getting them amped up — from our rehearsals to stage, it’s so exciting being onstage. It’s fun!”

What do you think about Carrie becoming an Idol judge? Do you think she would fit in beside Randy Jackson?

The Voice Earns 4 Emmy Nominations

thevoice

Congratulations to Blake Shelton and everyone at NBC’s The Voice! They’ve racked up four Emmy nominations at this year’s award show. It’s the first Emmy nomination for Blake, who celebrated in his own special way on Twitter earlier:

What’s made it interesting is that The Voice beat out American Id0l in one category – for Best Competition Reality Show, who didn’t even get a nomination in the category. Looks like our prediction from earlier this year of The Voice becoming the new King of reality tv may be right on. The other three categories the show racked up nominations in are for: Outstanding Art Direction For Variety Or Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Hairstyling For A Multi-Camera Series Or Special, and, Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media – Enhancement To A Television Program or Series.

The 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air on September 23rd live from the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles on ABC. Good luck to The Voice!

We don’t have any news yet on when RaeLynn will be releasing some new music, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we find out!

Michael Buble Joins Team Blake

Blake Shelton is bringing a powerful vocalist on Team Blake next season. Blake invited Michael Buble to serve as an advisor on NBC’s The Voice’s third season, which premieres September 10th. The pair were caught taping together in Los Angeles this week. Last season, Blake had Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert serve as advisors to his team. Blake’s Jermaine Paul was crowned the winner of The Voice’s second season.

This isn’t the first time the pair have teamed up together – they sang a duet in 2008 on a David Foster special.

Blake recorded his own version of Michael’s “Home” with his wife Miranda Lambert singing backing vocals in 2008.  Watch the music video below and let us know what you think of this new team. Will you be cheering for a second Team Blake victory in a row?

PHOTOS: Angie Johnson At Kentucky Derby

Angie Johnson.

Former The Voice contestant Angie Johnson has been hard at work since she appeared on the second season of the hit reality television show. On May 10th, the singer-songwriter YouTube sensation made her first appearance at The Julep, the exclusive invitation-only pre-party for the Kentucky Derby. She performed for two different Derby related events last week before taking in the 138th running of the race. Angie performed for cancer patients and survivors Thursday afternoon at the University of Louisville Hospital and opened for country music star Rodney Atkins at The Julep, on Friday.

Angie brought her “big hat,” a tradition for the Kentucky Derby on Saturday and rubbed elbows with some of the biggest stars from Hollywood, including actor David Arquette, Star Jones, and many others.

On Saturday, Angie,  who is a Technical Sargent in the Air National Guard, will be performing the national anthem and speaking with families at the largest military baby shower in Las Vegas. Operation: Showers of Appreciation along with Fox5 and Cannery Casino Resorts  will host approximately 150 new and expectant mothers who are active-duty service women or have deployed partners from all different branches of the armed forces.

It’s the first win for Team Blake, who placed second last season with runner-up Dia Frampton.
