PHOTO OF THE DAY: The Farm Backstage at the Opry

Today’s picture of the day is Elektra Nashville country music trio THE FARM backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. The group played the Opry stage on April 6th, 2012 – which was exactly two years from the date the trio formed after an impromptu writing session in Nashville. It was that first song together that is currently serving as the trio’s lead single. “Home Sweet Home” is in the top 25 country singles currently being played on country radio.

The group originally made their debut as a songwriting trio on the Opry stage back in February, when I had the chance to sit down with them for an interview which will appear on our site later this week. THE FARM is made up of Nick Hoffman (fiddle, vocals), Damien Horne (vocals, keyboard, guitar) and Krista Marie (vocals, guitar).  They performed with a full band on their April appearance, with both their first single “Home Sweet Home,” and “Be Grateful” which will also appear on their debut album.

THE FARM will be releasing their debut album on All-In Records/Elektra Nashville later this year.

CONTEST: Win An iTunes Gift Card From GCB

gcb

ABC is putting together one heck of a sound track for their newest television series, “GCB.” The show follows the story of Texan Queen Bee Amanda Vaughn, (played by Leslie Bibb), who returns home after 20 years, but there’s a little payback for the original mean girl of the town. Will she be welcomed back with open arms, or will her town preach her the golden rule while stabbing her in the back? Everything’s always bigger in Texas… including the drama! The show is based off of the book “Good Christian Bitches” by Kim Gaitlin.

While the sound track for the show isn’t available until May 8th on Elektra Nashville, fans will get the chance to preview a new song each week on iTunes. Star Kristin Chenoweth (who plays Carlene Cockburn) contributes three tracks to the compilation album, including a duet with co-star Miriam Shor on the classic “This Little Light Of Mine”. Other artists featured on the super-star CD include John Rich of Big & Rich, the JaneDear Girls, Emily West, Dean Alexander, Damien Horne, Joanna Cotten, Don Derby, Jaime Hanna, and Bum Steers.

We’ve teamed up with ABC to give our readers the chance to purchase the tracks from the sound track each week with a $15 iTunes gift certificate. Two readers will receive the gift card courtesy of ABC. To enter, follow the instructions on the form below. The contest is open immediately until midnight EST on Wednesday, March 14th. The winners will be contacted by e-mail within 24 hours of the contest closing, then have 24 hours to respond or new winners will be chosen. Only readers with United States mailing addresses can enter this one.

Don’t forget to tune in to GCB on ABC on Sundays at 10 pm EST!

CountryMusicIsLove to Host 3rd Annual City of Hope Benefit Concert

2012CMILPosterWebSize

If you find yourself in the Nashville area at the end of this month, you won’t want to miss this great opportunity to support our fellow country music bloggers CountryMusicIsLove and the City of Hope!

CountryMusicIsLove is proud to announce the 3rd Annual CountryMusicIsLove Concert benefiting City of Hope, one of the nation’s leading research, treatment and education centers for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. This year’s concert will feature acoustic performances by Micheal Ray, Chris Cavanaugh, Kristen Kelly, THE FARM, JT Hodges, Chuck Wicks, Love and Theft, Casey James, and Craig Campbell. Whitney Duncan will do double duty as host and performer for the second year in a row.

The cause hits close to home for many of the artists, including Casey James. “My family has been massively affected by cancer,” James shares. “My Paw-Paw passed away last year from cancer. My Nana passed away from cancer and my mother is a two-time cancer survivor, thyroid and breast. I can go on and on. There’s a large history of that in my family. Anything I can do to help and to do my part to make things better, I’ve always been into doing that, so it was an honor to be asked to come out and play. I’m excited to play the music and come see the fans, but most excited just to be a part of the whole thing.”

The 3nd Annual CountryMusicIsLove Concert benefiting City of Hope will be held February 21, 2012 at 7:30pm at Exit/In in Nashville, Tenn. Tickets are $15 and 100% of tickets sales will be donated to City of Hope. Tickets are available here: http://bit.ly/cmiltickets.

The Farm To Make Opry Debut

The Farm.

Country music trio The Farm will finally be making their Grand Ole Opry debut on Friday, February 10th. It’s an exciting accomplishment for any country music artist, especially this group. Krista Marie shared her excitement:

“One of the very first things I did after moving to Music City, was visit the Grand Ole Opry. It was so exciting and intimidating to stand on the stage where all the legends have played. The last time my grandmother came to visit, she said, ‘I can’t wait until the day that you are playing here. I won’t miss it.’ It’s now two years since she passed, but I know that she will be there, and have the best seat in the house. I’m honored to be sharing this special moment with my amazing partners, Nick and Damien.””

Damien Horne believes that the moment has a special place because of who he is:

“Playing the Grand Ole Opry is a dream of all dreams, as an artist, a fan and an African American. I am honored and humbled by this opportunity.”

Nick Hoffman is just as excited as his two partners. He had the last word on the big moment:

“Being invited to play the Grand Ole Opry is, simply put, a dream come true. As a fiddle player, one of my earliest inspirations was and still is the great Opry star Roy Acuff. When I first saw him spin his bow and play that fiddle on TV, I knew that Nashville was the place for me. All of my heroes are Opry Stars. I still spin my bow around on stage as a bit of a tribute to Mr. Acuff. It’ll be one of the great moments of my life to stand where they stood.”

Tickets are available for The Farm’s Opry debut at opry.com. They will be joined by Josh Turner, Diamond Rio, Little Jimmy Dickens, and more on the date.
