It’s been a whirlwind for years for The Band Perry, and with their forthcoming sophomore album Pioneer hitting stores on April 2, the trio shows no signs of slowing down. On working on the new album: ”Even more than pressure, we felt responsibility to even have the opportunity to record a second album,” Kimberly says, “because the fans making the first record such a success was in itself such a gift. The three of us felt the responsibility to dig as deep as we could, and we definitely dug deep.”
To begin the recording process, we took a road trip out to Malibu, Calif.,” Reid says, “and during that time we wrote a lot of the music along the way, including at the Grand Canyon. We wrote the song ‘Pioneer’ in Santa Fe, N.M.” They eventually made it to Malibu and met with Rubin. “Rick helped us refine the songs,” Reid says.
About working with Rick Rubin: ”Rick also opened up our minds to the spirit behind music,” Kimberly says. “He was a teacher in that area. There were times where we walked into the control room that he had tears in his eyes because the music so moved him.”

The Band Perry is at the top with “Better Dig Two,” taking the #1 spot on the Billboard Country Chart for a second consecutive week and also making the ascend to #1 on Mediabase. “Better Dig Two” has also rooted itself in the #1 spot on both Nielsen BDS Canada Country National Airplay and Mediabase Canada Country Airplay charts for the second consecutive week, showing the staying power of The Band Perry’s first #1 single in that country. The fastest-rising single of their career has sold over one million copies and also marks the sibling trio’s third chart-topper.
The lead single’s success sets a phenomenal tone for The Band Perry’s new album, PIONEER, which is slated for release April 2 on Republic Nashville. Amid rave reviews on the first track, the highly-anticipated sophomore project has been named one of Entertainment Weekly’s “12 Albums We Can’t Wait For.” Producer Dann Huff showcases the family trio’s signature mix of Country and Rock & Roll sounds, creative lyrics and robust musicality. The trio is giving fans a preview of the new music while on the road with Rascal Flatts‘ CHANGED TOUR.
Adding to the excitement, The Band Perry received an ACM nomination for Vocal Group of the Year just last week. The 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards will be broadcast on Sunday (4/7) at 8:00 PM live ET/delayed PT on the CBS Television Network.
The Band Perry siblings sure have something to celebrate on this special day! Earlier this morning, they announced some very exciting news on their website about their upcoming sophomore album. It will be titled “Pioneer” and is due out April 2 on Republic Nashville.
The album, produced by Dann Huff, has been listed as one of Entertainment Weekly’s “12 Albums We Can’t Wait For.” Building on the musical foundation demonstrated by the band on their first album, Pioneer, is steeped in country tradition, with rock and roll elements both on performance and songwriting.
“When we set out to record Pioneer, the three of us drove across the country from Greeneville to Malibu to work with one of our musical superheroes, Rick Rubin,” said Reid Perry. “Our time in the studio with Rick was so incredible because during our early sessions he challenged us to set higher goals as songwriters.”“With that experience came the realization that we needed to take the music back home to Tennessee and have Dann Huff bring the songs to life with his production,” adds Neil Perry. ”Sometimes where one starts off is not where one ends up, which is a big theme for us on Pioneer.”“There is still so much to be discovered, so many things to be made. There’s still so much good to be done and so many songs to sing. So here we are, two years later – Marching forward. Making noise. We are thankful for the momentum of the week and are thrilled that our release of Pioneer is just around the corner. We can’t wait!” says Kimberly Perry.
As anticipation builds for their Republic Nashville release on April 2, The Band Perry, reaches two major RIAA sales accolades. Additionally, “You Lie” – from their platinum-plus-selling, self-titled debut album – has now sold over one million copies, achieving PLATINUM status.
