Jake Owen Seeing Stars That Serve

Jake Owen.

A night out in Nashville had Jake Owen seeing stars and SEALS.  In this case, they were one and the same.

The RCA recording artist attended the Act of Valor movie screening in Nashville last night.  He wrote and recorded a song, “The Best I Can,” for the movie soundtrack and was anxious to see the film, which features active-duty Navy SEALS.

“Getting to hang out with the Navy SEALS last night was truly the biggest honor of my life,” says Jake. “Everyone should go see Act of Valor.  The movie is so intense, but it’s real. It reminds you that every single day you should be very grateful to live in this country.”

On February 14, Jake travels to NYC to perform his Top-10 hit single, “Alone with You,” on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which airs at 12:30 a.m. ET.

By the way, the rest of the Act of Valor soundtrack is pretty much a country collaboration.  Other performers on the album include Keith Urban, Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes, Trace Adkins, Josh Kelley and Wynonna.

Video Picks Of The Week: January 22, 2012

Keith Urban

Hello my country music friends…

It’s time again for our “Video Picks of the Week!”

Music Video

Many of you probably know Whitney Duncan from Nashville Star Season 5 (2007). Duncan was signed to Warner Bros. Nashville after finishing fifth on the show. I actually randomly stumbled upon her music a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed it so much that it made me seek out more of her work. This week’s music video is her debut single “When I Said I Would” from her first major label release, Right Road Now. I think the whole album is great, and Whitney has a voice and sound completely fitted for country music. If you have not already, definitely check out her songs on iTunes.

Top 10 Live Tracks (2000 – Now)

Kenny Chesney. photo credit: iheartradio

There’s nothing we here at Keepin’ It Country love more than live music, so it only made sense to put together a list of some of our favorite live tracks to share with you all, our lovely readers! This particular list is made up of only live tracks from 2000 – 2012, mostly because trying to go through the entire live history of country music turned out to be a bit daunting. Also, all tracks in consideration had to have been released commercially at some point, so no bootlegs here! (Though that could easily be another list.)

Now that the fine print is out of the way, check out our picks below!

10. Love & Theft – “Don’t Wake Me” – Live in Savannah EP

Love & Theft’s performance of “Don’t Wake Me,” off of the band’s Live in Savannah EP, highlights everything that’s great about the group. Three (now two) great looking guys singing perfect harmonies on killer pop-country songs. Any cut from this album could have made our list, but this was a personal favorite. The band gained certain notoriety when Taylor Swift wrote “Hey Stephen” about member Stephen Barker Liles, but if Love & Theft can keep their moment going with live shows like this one there’s a good chance they’ll give Rascal Flatts a run for their money in a few years.

9. Kenny Chesney – “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy – Live Those Songs Again

Kenny Chesney has long ruled the country music touring circuit; one of the few acts in any genre that can consistently sell out stadiums, so it should be no surprise that he made our list. “Tractor” is a reminder of exactly what makes Kenny so fun to see live. It’s a fun summertime party with the best soundtrack.

Kristian Bush of Sugarland.

For those of us who still haven’t quite yet figured out what to get friends and family this holiday season, Sugarland‘s Kristian Bush is lending a hand. Items on his list include an iPod/iPhone case, a magazine subscription, colones, iPad apps, and even jackets. Check out Kristian’s list here on the official Sugarland website.

In case you still need more ideas, Kristian also put together a list last year. See his 2010 Christmas gift guide for even more inspiration.

Sugarland perform “Every Girl Like Me” Acoustically – In a Taxi!

Sugarland.

Sugarland are currently over in Norway, getting ready to perform during the Nobel Peace Prize concert and, lucky for SugarFans, they’ve chosen to commemorate the event by posting a video they made the last time they were overseas in a cold climate. The SugarDuo was in London earlier this year and, apparently, decided to record an acoustic version of the viral fan favorite “Every Girl Like Me,” – in the back of a taxi. Awesome.

VIDEO: Sugarland & Lady Gaga Perform “You And I”

Sugarland.

One of the more anticipated moments of last night’s Grammy nominations special was the announced duet of Lady GaGa with country music duo Sugarland. They performed Lady Gaga’s hit single “You And I” with Lady GaGa on the piano and even Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles picking up a guitar. Watch the video of their performance right here and let us know what you think about this mix:

This wasn’t the first time Sugarland performed with a pop superstar. They performed “California King Bed” with Rihanna at the Academy of Country Music’s Fanjam earlier in the year.
