REVIEW: Sherrie Austin “Circus Girl”

sherrie_austin

It’s fitting that Sherrie Austin’s new album is called “Circus Girl.”  With this project, the affable Australian singer/songwriter walks a high wire without a net.  The album is self-written, self-produced and self-financed.  Fortunately, we can apply one more “s-word” to Austin’s album:  Satisfying.

It’s been eight years since her last release.  It’s an understatement to say the country music landscape has changed a lot in that time.  It would’ve been easy for Austin to try to reinvent who she is to fit that landscape.  But instead of changing herself, she finds success simply by being herself.

Austin had a hand in writing every one of the 13 tracks on the album.  She gives each song the voice of one who has lived life and learned about herself with every step and misstep along the way.  It’s this voice of experience that gives the album its heart.

EXCLUSIVE: Interview With Shane Stevens & Sherrie Austin

Shane Stevens & Sherrie Austin.

While I was in Nashville for CMA Awards week, I had the pleasure of meeting songwriters Shane Stevens and Sherrie Austin the morning of the award show.  The pair are representing country music in Sundance’s new television show “Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys.”

Sherrie, a former child actress who just released her album “Circus Girl,” has written songs for artists like Blake Shelton, George Strait, and even a Tim McGraw and Faith Hill duet. Her current single “Naughty Or Nice” is out right now!

Shane might be remembered by country music fans for writing Lady Antebellum’s BMI-Award winning hit single “American Honey,” or his work with Kellie Pickler, Jordin Sparks and Sara Evans. He has just released his single “Back To Earth,” and he’ll be releasing his pop album “Holy Graffiti” early next year.

“Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys” is in its second season on Sundance. The groundbreaking reality tv series follows Sherrie and Shane, along with other best friend couples, in their lives in Nashville, Tennessee. The series follows their relationships in the usually conservative state and remains unscripted. The show remains a unique way to be proud of who you are, and fans may have seen the ads during the broadcast of the CMA Awards this year.

Watch our interview with the very funny, and down-to-earth pair below:

You can catch “Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys” on Sundance on Fridays at 9 pm EST. Catch up on the latest episodes, including full streaming, on the show’s official website.
