Scotty McCreery donates to Nashville RBI

Scotty McCreery.

American Idol winner Scotty McCreery gave back to the community on the weekend. He made a big donation to the Nashville chapter of Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) as part of the non-profit organization’s Opening Day events. The RBI’s Opening Day ran the same time as the MLB’s Jackie Robison Day.

Scotty threw the first pitch at the community game at Nashville’s Seven Oaks Park, and visited with the participants.

The organization describes itself as: “Nashville RBI uses baseball and softball and the power of teams to provide inner city youth with opportunities to play, to learn and to grow, inspiring them to recognize their potential and realize their dreams.”

Scotty McCreery asks for fans help

Scotty McCreery.

American Idol winner Scotty McCreery is asking for his fans’ help for a very important cause. He’s teamed up with dosomething.org and Walmart to help inspire teenagers to do something in their communities – whether it be Food Drives, donating to local food pantries, or some other kind of volunteer work. Scotty has created an event called the “Peanut Butter & Jam Slam” to help fight childhood hunger. He’s challenging his fans to donate 10 jars of peanut butter or jelly to their local food cupboard to help fight hunger. Why peanut butter? Scotty says that it’s one of the most-requested items at food pantries.

For more information on Scotty’s campaign visit DoSomething.org/pbj. The Mercury Records artist also recorded a PSA to get the word out about his challenge, check it out below and let us know if you’re going to help out in your neighborhood:

Scotty McCreery announces first headlining tour

Scotty McCreery.

American Idol winner Scotty McCreery has finally made plans for his first-ever headlining tour! The Carolina native will hit the road on his “Weekend Roadtrip Tour 2013″ to 25 cities in the United States. The tour kicks off on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, in Bethlehem, PA. Black River Entertainment’s Sarah Darling will join Scotty on the tour, and World Vision will serve as the charity of his tour.

Scotty is relying on his experience with Brad Paisley and his friends in country music. He shares:

“I’ve been lucky enough to play a lot of great cities over the last year with Brad Paisley and some other great country artists. This time, I get to play some new places with a show that’s all my own. I can’t wait for my fans to see what we’ve lined up for them on my Weekend Roadtrip tour 2013.”

Scotty will include some brand new material on the tour from his upcoming album due out later this year. He’s currently working on the record, but promises fans will hear it first during his tour.

He explains why 2013 might be his busiest year yet:

“Right now, I’m balancing my music career with my second semester at North Carolina State University. I go to school early in the week and get to play my music every weekend. So, calling this tour the Weekend Roadtrip tour just made sense. Plus, what college student doesn’t love a good road trip?

While only 16 cities have been announced so far, it’s expected to hit 25 stops total.  Check out the list of cities so-far below and let us know if you’ll be going:

Scotty McCreery Wins CMT Music Award and Graduates High School

Scotty McCreery graduates

It’s been a crazy few days for platinum-selling artist and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery, who took home his first CMT Music Award on Wednesday and then graduated high school 12 hours later in Garner, N.C. After all that excitement, he headed back to Nashville yesterday to sign autographs, hold a Fan Club Party and take the stage at LP Field on Sunday.

At the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday, Scotty grabbed the USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year for “The Trouble With Girls” at the 2012 CMT Music Awards. “I was pumped!” says Scotty, who also performed “Water Tower Town” during the CMT Music Awards. “It’s a fun awards show. You come here just looking for a great time, so that award just added to a great night.”

The award he won was for “The Trouble With Girls” video, which was actually shot at Garner High School, the school from which McCreery graduated on Thursday morning. “I love the video because it’s real for me,” he says. “Those are my real friends and my real high school. It was really special to shoot.” He graduated with distinguished honors, and his Senior year included a platinum debut album and pitching for his high school baseball team. “It’s been a good four years in high school,” he says. “I’ve gone a lot of places that I never thought I’d go and done a lot of things I never dreamed I’d do. This is bittersweet, but I’m really excited to spend the day with my friends and move on to the next stage in life.”

Scotty McCreery’s current single, which he performed at the CMT Awards, “Water Tower Town,” is currently climbing the charts. Additionally, he is on tour with Brad Paisley‘s epic “Virtual Reality Tour 2012.”
