CONTEST: Win An Autographed Copy Of Ronnie Dunn’s Solo Album – WINNER ANNOUNCED

Ronnie Dunn.

Congratulations to Catherine I., the winner of our autographed Ronnie Dunn album!

Ronnie Dunn is one of the most recognizable names, and voices, in country music. Formerly part of the legendary duo Brooks & Dunn, he released his self-titled solo album this year after over 20 years as a duo. This solo venture gave Ronnie the chance to find songs that he believed in and that represented himself as an artist and a person. His album was a huge success: it debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and number 5 on the Billboard 200; selling 45,000 copies its first week.

The latest single from Ronnie Dunn, released back on June 6th, is one of the most touching this year. “Cost Of Livin’” was originally put on hold by Ronnie in 2008, who hesitated on recording it thinking the economy may have improved since then. He changed the hook and chorus of the song originally written by Philip Coleman. The song is about a military veteran who is trying to find any kind of employment he can after his company went bankrupt, forcing him to lose his job. The song is from the point of view of a job interview for the man.

Do you want to win an autographed copy of Ronnie Dunn’s album, featuring “Bleed Red,” and “Cost Of Livin’?” Starting immediately and running through to Friday, October 14th at 2 pm EST, you can enter our drawing to win the album! The contest is open everywhere except where prohibited. Only one entry per person, please. We will pick a random winner with the correct answer Friday, with the name announced sometime after the drawing closes at 2 pm EST on Friday, October 14th. Ronnie Dunn Vs. The Opry

Ronnie Dunn.

Uh oh. Looks like someone rubbed Ronnie Dunn the wrong way. He’s set to sing at the Grand Ole Opry this weekend, and someone told him what he can and can’t sing. Ronnie took his frustration out on his Facebook page two days ago, and if it’s going to go his way, looks like no one’s going to tell him what to do:

I’m singing on the Opry Saturday Night…..someone called a few days ago and informed me that they prefer past radio “hits”. I’m having a hard time playing by “the rules”, these days. ….I really am ! In fact, I’m over it. Think I’ll sing what I feel like singing…they can spank me and send me home.

I’m on the side with Ronnie. He’ll share the stage with Rascal Flatts, Craig Morgan, and Charley Pride this weekend. Tickets are still available so get yours HERE.

The Grand Ole Opry is turning 86!

The Grand Ole Opry is turning 86 and what better way to celebrate an 86th birthday then with a star studded line up. Starting on October 4th, the Opry is honoring Randy Travis for his 25 years in country music and as an Opry member. Josh Turner, Connie Smith and Carrie Underwood and more will make appearances.

REVIEW: Ronnie Dunn – Cost Of Livin’

Ronnie Dunn.

It’s hard to break-in an acoustic-based single on radio, no matter the format. It’s difficult, and usually rare, to have a big hit in an acoustic song but it’s not impossible: Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me”, and Sugarland’s “Stay” have done it in recent years. Ronnie Dunn, part of the legendary Brooks & Dunn, decided to try his hand at the risk of releasing “Cost Of Livin’.” Like the previous hits mentioned above, the song is about a story that everyone can relate to right now. Ronnie knew not to focus the song on vocal performance, but to tell the touching story of the well-written lyrics.  For people wondering how well Ronnie and Kix would do solo now that Brooks & Dunn has separated – this song should put them at ease. It’s reminiscent of old school Brooks & Dunn.

Music Stars Join Taylor Swift On Stage

Taylor Swift

This past weekend Taylor Swift’s Speak Now Tour rolled through Nashville, Tennessee, and the two-night stop at Bridgestone Arena turned into a party of Swift’s music friends.

On Friday night, Swift was joined on stage by country music legend, Ronnie Dunn, to sing his hit song, “Bleed Red.” Swift also brought out Hayley Williams of Paramore to help her perform the band’s “That’s What You Get.”

Last night, the duets continued. Swift brought to the stage superstars, Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney, as well as upcoming singer-songwriter, Andy Grammer. Chesney joined Swift for his single, “Big Star,” and Grammer accompanied her for his song, “Keep Your Head Up,” while McGraw took the stage with Swift during the encore to sing his track, “Just To See You Smile.”

Swift’s next show is Tuesday, September 20, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

How Sony Music's Restructuring Effects Country Music

Carrie Underwood & Brad Paisley.

Country music fans have been a little worried and confused this week over the announcement of Sony Music’s restructuring of its labels. While no major acts have been dropped, a lot of shuffling has gone on. We have the new artist lists by label here for you to help ease that confusion while the official websites get caught up and switch over. With the removal of Columbia Nashville, Miranda Lambert and the Pistol Annies were one of the acts switched to a different branch of Sony Music Nashville.

CMT Festival Was The Place To Party This Weekend

Rascal Flatts.

Oro Station, Ontario, Canada was the place to be this weekend for any country music fan. The first annual CMT Music Festival went off without a hitch, with thousands upon thousands of hardcore rednecks and country fans jam-packed into the fields to hear the best of what country music had to offer. The three-day festival featured superstar acts like Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, Sara Evans, Colt Ford, and even Ronnie Dunn. With early estimates of nearly 10,000 fans a night at Burl’s Creek Family Park; there’s no way this festival doesn’t return again next year.

The music festival kicked off with a performance by Hank, who unfortunately were forced to play before gates were open to the public. The die hard hillbillies packed at the entrances to try to race for their spots did hear them, and the second the gates were open there was a rush of people running to get their spots by the main stage.
