Rodney Atkins Arrested For Alleged Domestic Assault

TMZ is reporting early this morning that Rodney Atkins was arrested last month for an alleged domestic assault against his wife. TMZ is also reporting that Rodney quickly filed for divorce after the alleged incident.

According to court docs filed in Williamson County, Rodney’s wife Tammy Atkins called 911 at 7:47 AM on November 21 — claiming the two had been arguing throughout the night in their home … when Rodney turned violent. Tammy told police Rodney tried to smother her with a pillow … and later grabbed her by the face and threw her down the hallway.   According to cops, Tammy insisted the platinum-selling singer “had been drinking alcohol all night and was intoxicated.” What’s worse — Tammy claims the entire assault took place in front of the couple’s 10-year-old son.

Rodney was hauled to a nearby jail — where he was booked and released on $2,500 bail.  But Rodney says his wife is straight up lying — and his lawyer is calling the incident nothing more than an “unfortunate verbal dispute.”

In a statement released to TMZ … Rodney’s lawyer says:

“When Mr. Atkins realized their child was in hearing range of the argument his first priority became getting out of the earshot of the child.”

The statement continues, “Mr. Atkins realized he would have no recourse but to file a complaint for divorce. He has exercised substantial parenting time with the parties son and he will continue to do so while the divorce is pending.”

“Mr. Atkins wants to thank his fans for standing by him as he is confident the truth will prevail.”

On Sunday night, the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys battled it out for Sunday Night Football, but fans put down their tailgating parties for a special cause before the game. Country music star Rodney Atkins and former NFL star Warrick Dunn teamed up with Crown Royal to help honor and provide much-needed support for American troops overseas this Christmas season.

Rodney, Warrick and fans stuffed camo-themed care packages to be sent to Texas servicemen and women serving overseas during the holidays. For every bag stuffed, Crown Royal donated $10 to The Texas Wildfire Relief Fund, a non-profit organization supporting Texas volunteer firefighters.

Thanks to the effort by Rodney, Warrick and the fans, Crown Royal will be sending 1,000 care packages to Dallas troops. They also made an impressive $10,000 donation to the Texas Wildfire Relief Fund. 50 firefighters were on-site from local fire stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and as a tribute to the firefighters, Rodney played a free concert.

Fans who weren’t able to make it out to the event can still make a donation online by visiting Facebook.com/CrownRoyal to send a personalized message to troops overseas, or TexasWildfireRelief.org to support Texas volunteer firefighters.

Country star, Rodney Atkins, is joining forces with The Crown Royal Heroes Project. The project was started by Whiskey Brand as an ongoing commitment to provide support and recognition to our military and non-profit first responder heroes.

Atkins along with Crown Royal and former NFL star, Warrick Dunn, will be hosting a care package event and free concert this Sunday, December 11th to benefit our military and the Texas volunteer firefighters. The events will take place at Cowboys stadium prior to the Dallas Cowboys-New York Giants match-up.

Texas has experienced the worst wildfire season in the state’s history and Atkins’ performance is dedicated to the Texas Wildfire Relief Fund, a non-profit organization established to provide awareness for volunteer firefighters in Texas. Members of the organization will be invited to attend the game and receive VIP access during the Atkins concert. At the event, fans 21+ will also be able to pack exclusive Crown Royal purple bags with items to be sent overseas to our servicemen and women, and Crown Royal will donate $10 to the Texas Wildfire Relief Fund for each care package compiled by the fans.

Atkins shared:

“Being a part of this on-going effort by Crown Royal to honor some of the most admirable people in our country is something really special. We’re looking forward to putting on a great show for Dallas fans and especially the Texas volunteer firefighters who were pushed to the limits this year.”
