2012 City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge Roster
The 22nd Annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 9, 2012 in Nashville, Tennessee, and the first several players on the roster have been announced! Suiting up for the cause are: Carrie Underwood, Scotty McCreery, Brantley Gilbert, Lauren Alaina, David Nail, James Otto, Robin Meade, Scott Hamilton, Chuck Wicks, Whitney Duncan, Bucky Covington, Sarah Darling, Billy Gilman, Kristen Kelly and Two Foot Fred. The AfterMidnite and Grand Ole Opry players rosters will be updated as more players commit to the event.
The City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge has raised almost $2 million dollars since its inception. The cause benefits City of Hope as it strives to find cures and more effective treatment for cancer and other diseases. Tickets to the game are on sale now at Ticketmaster. Come out and watch some of your favorite artists battle it out on the field in support of those battling for their lives!
Robin Meade: In Her Own Words
As host of HLN’s “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” this award-winning journalist and television personality lives in a whirl of 2:30 AM weekday wakeup calls, six hours of anchoring the news each day, assignments (like skydiving with President George H. W. Bush) and honors, including induction into the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame and the 2010 Gracie Award for Outstanding Anchor from American Women in Radio & Television.
But she has also loved singing in front of audiences as far back as kindergarten and Country Music specifically since first hearing a Mary Chapin Carpenter CD.
Her two sides intersect on her debut album. Brand New Day is produced by Victoria Shaw, with Billy Dean coproducing “Morning Sunshine,” which he wrote and sings with Meade. That’s one of six tracks that she co-wrote, most of them a mix of down-home and uptown. When she fumes about being stuck behind a car whose turn signal blinks for six miles on “Letting It Go” (written by Meade, Shaw and Matt Lopez) or revels in her command of big-city office politics on “Put My High Heels On” (Meade, Shaw and John Rich), you know she’s writing about what she knows, which after all is the essence of Country.
Still, when called back to her roots, Meade doesn’t disappoint. From her duet with Jim Brickman on the searing ballad “Welcome Home” (Brickman and Shaw) to her first single, a banjo-studded treatment of Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry” (Henley and Danny Kortchmar) featuring Bo Bice, Kix Brooks, Gary Burr, Sarah Buxton and Shaw, she proves that those roots thrive just under the surface.

More Artists Added To ACM Honors Event
The Academy of Country Music announced new additions to its roster for the ACM Honors event on September 19th, 2011. The Oak Ridge Boys, CNN’s Robin Meade and Brett Elderidge have been added to the star-studded line-up at the historic Ryman Auditorium. The night will be hosted by Joe Nichols who will also perform. Other performers include Rodney Atkins, Randy Houser, Jack Ingram, The Isaacs, Jamey Johnson, Thompson Square, The Whites and LeAnn Womack.
Presenters previously announced include Laura Bell Bundy, Ronnie Dunn, Ralph Emery, and John Michael Montgomery.
The ACM Honors event will honor the winners of non-televised categories of the Academy of Country Music Awards held earlier this year as well as special honorees. For a list of the winners click the “read more” button. Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster at only $35 each.
Robin Meade Launches “Rise & Shine” Contest
CNN’s Headline News anchorwoman, Robin Meade, has been trying her luck in country music lately. Not only did she perform at CMA Fest, and recently release her debut country album, “Brand New Day,” but now she will also perform with Wynonna on July the fourth. Now she’s getting her CNN viewers to join her love for music by asking them to submit an original song to be the “Morning Express” theme song.
The winner will get a tour of the CNN building in Atlanta, Georgia, meet the Morning Express team, a tour of the studio, and a professional recording of the song they created. Robin and her team will select the top ten entries, which fans will vote on at CNN.com/Robin. The winner will be announced on-air in September.
Robin Meade: From CNN to Country Album
Robin Meade, the host of CNN’s Headline News morning show “Morning Express With Robin Meade”, is set to release her debut country album this Summer. Who knew?
With special guests John Rich, Bo Bice, Kix Brooks and Sara Burton, “A Brand New Day” will be a Target and iTunes exclusive on June 21st. The album was produced by Victoria Shaw, known for her work with Lady Antebellum.
Meade will perform at CMA Fan Fest in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday, June 12th at 11:45 am CST on the Lay’s Plaza Stage. She’s also on the roster for the annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge on Saturday, June 11th. She will also participate in autograph signings of her new album on June 9th, 10th and the 11th.
