Reba McEntire announced last night via Twitter that her new TV sitcom, Malibu Country, has officially been picked up by ABC.
@reba: What a great day this has been! Got the long awaited call!!! “Malibu Country” has been picked up! It’s gonna be on ABC !!! Woohoooo!!!!!
@reba: i get to wk w Lily Tomlin, Sara Rue, Justin Prentice, Juliette Angelo, Jai Rodriguez, Jeffery Nordling and Hudson Thames. Too much fun!
The show will focus on McEntire, who will play a single mom that divorces her rock-star husband after he has an affair. The family moves from Nashville to Malibu in an attempt for McEntire’s character to start her own singing career and create a better life for her kids. ABC has yet to announce a timeslot for Malibu Country.
According to Perez Hilton, Reba McEntire has officially become the second country female artist to ever sell more than 30 million albums! Shania Twain still holds the number one spot with over 34 million sales to date!
However, it very well could be that Reba has sold more, as Nielson Soundscan only started tracking album sales in 1991. Reba’s first album was released back in 1981.
This week, Kelly Clarkson released a country version of her hit single, “Mr. Know It All.” Clarkson worked with producer, Dann Huff, to give the song a country twist.
@kelly_clarkson: “Hey everybody, I got to work with Dann Huff and recut ‘Mr. Know It All’ for country radio! I hope y’all like it!! I had a lot of fun recutting the song and getting the opportunity to work with Dann! It will be available on iTunes April 3rd.”
The track has been getting airplay on some country radio stations for the last few weeks. On Tuesday, the song was officially released to iTunes.
Clarkson has had two previous country hits. In 2007, Reba McEntire and Clarkson recorded Clarkson’s worldwide chart-topper, “Because Of You,” as a duet. The track served as the lead single for Reba’s album, Duets, and climbed to number 2 on Billboard‘s Country Chart. In 2010, Jason Aldean asked Clarkson to be his duet partner on the song, “Don’t You Wanna Stay” for his album, My Kinda Party. The song scored the number one spot on Billboard‘s Country Chart, and was a cross-over smash. The song also won the pair two American Country Awards and two Academy of Country Music Awards including “Single of the Year.”
“Mr. Know It All” marks Clarkson’s first solo country song. Make sure to download your copy and request it at your local radio stations!
Last night was a pretty big night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. Kelly Clarkson was in town to perform to a sold out crowd for her Stronger Tour, and as a surprise she brought along some of her celebrity pals to sing with her.
Blake Shelton happened to be in town last night to film last night’s live episode of The Voice, so making an appearance at Kelly’s show worked out perfectly. Kelly and Blake have been good friends for a while now, as they are both managed by Starstruck Entertainment in Nashville, TN.
Kelly brought Blake Shelton out on stage to perform with her for “Don’t You Wanna Stay”, the smash hit she sings with Jason Aldean. She introduced Blake with ”I LOVE him! He is so freakin’ awesome. I love his music, I love him as a person, I love how he messes with people all the time….He is a phenomenal country singer.” You can tell they have a real genuine friendship just by watching them perform together on stage.
At this point in the show, Kelly had brought out two special guests before Blake, Tamyra Gray (who was on American Idol Season One with Kelly) in which they sang the Whitney Houston song “When You Believe,” and pop singer Michelle Branch, who in addition to having her own pop solo career, was in the country duo “The Wreckers” with Jessica Harp. Back in February of 2008, The Wreckers announced they were splitting up the group to focus on their solo careers.
This isn’t the first time Kelly has sung with Michelle, as she made an appearance at The Wreckers’s show at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, TX back in 2007 to perform “Leave The Pieces” with them. This time her and Michelle performed “Leave The Pieces” again.
Last but certainly not least, as if the audience even thought the show could get any better, Kelly brings out Reba to sing “Because of You” with her, which was the fourth single off of Kelly’s “Breakaway” album in 2005. The song was later released in 2007 as a duet with Reba McEntire and featured on her CD “Reba: Duets.” Kelly wrote the song when she was 16 about her parent’s divorce, which happened when she was only 6.
Kelly just last weekend won two ACM awards with Jason Aldean for “Don’t You Wanna Stay” and in her acceptance speech, she thanked country music for accepting her in from the pop world. Country loves Kelly, and we’d certainly love to see her do a lot more in the country world in the future. What do you think?
Shelton co-hosted the show with Reba McEntire, and the pair once again nailed their roles as hosts. You can always count on it being a fantastic show with McEntire and Shelton leading the way.
The country superstar also performed his single “Drink On It” from his hugely successful and number one album, Red River Blue. He then took the stage again to close the show. This time, though, with Lionel Richie for their duet version of “You Are.” The track will be on Richie’s Tuskegee album, which features duets with various country stars.
To top it all off, Shelton snagged the ACM Award last night for ‘Male Vocalist of the Year!’ He was surprised by the honor, but it is very well deserved and we are so happy for him. Congratulations to Blake!!!!
Watch video of Shelton accepting his ACM Award:
Shelton also stopped by the press room for an interview. He discussed his career, The Voice, Taylor Swift, and his wife, Miranda Lambert.
Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton are ready to host the 47th Academy of Country Music Awards tonight! Watch it live on CBS at 8/7c to see all of your favorite country stars.
Reba posted on her WhoSay account: “We have it under control!!!! ACM’s tonight on CBS!!”
We’re now in the final days of fan voting for the Academy of Country Music Award for Entertainer of the Year. Blake Shelton is up for the award and is getting some superstar support in his bid to bring home the trophy.
Kelly Clarkson posted this video earlier today explaining how Blake entertains her. We can see Blake and the original American Idol winner getting together for singing and a little post-show partying. But hunting? Come on, Blake! Keep your word and take the girl out to shoot something!
Along with Blake, the other nominees for Entertainer of the Year are Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley and Taylor Swift. Fan voting is still open at www.voteacm.com. You can vote once per day. Voting for Entertainer of the Year will close during the third hour of the live ACM broadcast.
The Academy of Country Music Awards, with Reba McEntire and Blake as co-hosts, are this Sunday, April 1 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The show will be broadcast live on CBS starting at 8pm ET (delayed on the West Coast).
