EXCLUSIVE REVIEW: Jo Dee Messina’s “Me” on Monday

Jo Dee Messina Like a Kid Again

We are finally into March … You know what that means? It is the month of Jo Dee Messina‘s album release, and it’s about darn time! We have been loving every moment of providing you all with our weekly reviews of tracks on the upcoming album, Me, and we are especially excited to tell you about “Like a Kid Again.”

While there are some deep, emotional songs on Me, other songs are more carefree and light. “Like a Kid Again,” though it can definitely cause you to sit back and evaluate how fast your life seems to fly by, is the type of song that also makes you want to let loose, be young and free, and just enjoy the moments before they pass. As adults, we all experience the burden of adulthood, whether it is the stresses of work, the responsibility of paying bills, or the roller coaster ride that is raising children of our own. Some days, don’t you just want to be silly and free, just like you were able to before being a grown up meant all of these things?

EXCLUSIVE REVIEW: Jo Dee Messina’s “Me” on Monday

We are only six weeks away from the release of Jo Dee Messina‘s first studio album as an independent artist. Me promises to fulfill all of your musical cravings, as it contains the fun-loving country tunes you have come to love, as well as those big ballads that anybody with a true appreciation for moving music and stunning vocals can’t live without.

Slowing it down this week, we introduce you to a beautiful ballad on Jo Dee’s upcoming album, entitled “Say Goodbye to Superman.” The song is sung from a mother’s viewpoint and asks the all-too-common question of how does a mother explain to her young child that his father has chosen not to come home. In a society where divorce is the unfortunate norm, this song will certainly hit close to home for mothers, fathers, and children of divorcees alike.

From the opening strokes of the piano keys and the first words uttered by the incomparable Jo Dee (“I’m down on my knees trying hard to find answers …”), this song pulls you close while simultaneously tearing you apart. Jo Dee searches for a way to tell her son that his father isn’t the superhero he thought he was, and rather, he is just a man who fell victim to his own devices. Jo Dee hits her knees as she pleads for a way to pick up the pieces of her brokenhearted son. Of course, as a wife and mother left behind, Jo Dee prays to God that He will help her cope with the loss she also endured, crooning “Lord I need your strength to help me make it through because the man that was his Superman was my superhero too.”

As a product of divorced parents, this track brought me back to my childhood home and the trials and tribulations I witnessed and experienced within those four walls. It reminded me of the struggle of the parent who remains behind and is forced to take on multiple roles — mother, father, confidante, and pillar of strength. This track puts into perspective that a parent in a broken home is forced to put his/her own emotions aside to first care for young children who are affected by the choices made by the adults in the situation.

This song is, by far, a favorite of this particular writer’s … and not just on Me, but within Jo Dee’s entire impeccable catalog. I truly cannot wait for country music fans to get their hands on this album and be exposed to unforgettable songs like “Say Goodbye to Superman.” Jo Dee makes it clear with work like this that she is surely not an artist we are saying goodbye to anytime soon.

Martina McBride’s New Album “Everlasting” Coming In March

Martina McBride

One of country music’s best vocalists of all-time will be releasing an album of classics on March 4, 2014!

Martina McBride’s new album Everlasting will feature iconic songs. Tracks will include “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man” made famous by Aretha Franklin, “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” from Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, and the Jimmy Ruffin hit “What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted.”

The four-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year shared:

“These songs have beautiful melodies and emotional lyrics, which is basically all you can ask for as a singer. While this is a bit of a departure for me song-wise, stylistically I approached these songs the way I always have which is singing with as much soul and emotion as I possibly can.” “I think my fans will love this record because they are some of the best songs of all time done in a very classic style. I’m so excited for them to hear it and to take this record, complete with a horn section, on the road in the spring.”

We can’t wait to hear this!

The album will also feature a collaboration with Gavin DeGraw on “Bring It On Home,” originally sung by Sam Cooke.

Produced by Grammy winning producer Don Was, Everlasting will be released on McBride’s own label through Kobalt label services. The full track listing will be revealed soon and we’ll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, listen to McBride’s amazing cover of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”:

Jake Owen’s “Days of Gold” Album Available Now

Jake Owen

One of my favorite artists is back with new music!

That’s right, I’m talking about Jake Owen. The country star has released his highly anticipated 4th album, Days of Gold.

Days of Gold is the follow-up to Owen’s gold-certified Barefoot Blue Jean Night. Barefoot achieved great success scoring four consecutive number one singles with “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” “Alone,” “The One That Got Away,” and “Anywhere With You.”

His current release, “Days of Gold,” is the lead single and title track for the new album. It is #22 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and climbing! I know I cannot turn on my local country station without hearing it, and I think it’s on the same track for success as its predecessors.

In an interview with Billboard, Owen had this to share about the album:

“I think it’s different. I don’t know if it’s so out there that people would get offended by it. But, we did take a chance. It’s a risk reward thing. I think that as an artist, sometimes for you to grow, you have to take those risks rather than put out the same song each time. You look back on careers of people who had songs that were just a little bit different, and that’s what we did.”

Days of Gold is available everywhere now so grab your copy asap! FYI – there is an exclusive edition of the album, featuring four bonus tracks, that is available only at Target. Makes for a great Christmas gift!

Scotty McCreery Releases “See You Tonight” Album

Scotty McCreery - See You Tonight

Scotty McCreery’s new album See You Tonight was released this week!

McCreery rose to fame during American Idol Season 10 and went on to be crowned the winner that year. However, the young singer’s success did not stop there and we don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. His first album, Clear As Day, is RIAA platinum certified as well as record breaking. McCreery was the youngest male ever to top the 200 Billboard Chart with a debut album, and also the first country act to open at number one with a debut album.

Produced by Mark Bright and Frank Rogers, See You Tonight consists of thirteen tracks with McCreery having co-writing credit on five songs.

McCreery has been working on the album for the better part of the year and shared:

This album is a big step from the first one, and I can’t wait for everybody to hear it. [...] I feel like I accomplished what I wanted to sound like and say.

And of course, for Scotty, it always goes back to those who helped get him here – the fans:

All of my success goes back to the fans. I try to put in all of the hard work I can, but it means nothing to me without the fans, which have been there by my side since day one. It’s all about saying thanks to the fans.

The singer-songwriter is very busy right now on his album promo run including Fox & Friends and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno as well as hosting album release events in Nashville, New York and North Carolina.

The album is available in three versions: a regular version, Deluxe version (3 additional songs), and a Deluxe Wal-Mart version (2 tracks in addition to the deluxe version). Make sure you grab your copy!
