Grammy Recap: Our Favorite Moments

Carrie-underwood

The 55th Annual Grammy’s took place on Sunday, February 10th and our favorite country artists were well-represented with performances and more. It was impossible to pick a favorite moment, so we picked a few of the best…

Taylor Swift Brings in the Clowns: We’ve never been asked to open the Grammys (or much more than our own mail), but we’d assume it’s a big responsibility that comes with a ton of pressure. With her genre-bending, Alice-in-Wonderland-themed opener, Taylor Swift set the tone for a night of unforgettable performances with her hit about never, ever, ever, EVER getting back together. Although she nabbed a Grammy in the pre-telecast for her collaboration with the Civil Wars, it was her performance that had everyone buzzing. Most notably, there was that moment when she pulled her best Madonna, suddenly acquiring a British accent. Although much has been made about what that meant, we here at Keepin’ It Country have decided it could’ve only been aimed in one direction…

Randy Houser celebrates first-ever RIAA gold single

Randy Houser. photo credit: David McClister

Country star Randy Houser may sing about getting “some of this slow-down fast” in “How Country Feels,” but right now his career begs to differ as the song, his first-ever No. 1 hit, also becomes his first RIAA® Gold® certified single, selling over half a million downloads and climbing. “How Country Feels” is the title track off of his new album which hit stores last week and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. The album has also received praise from AP, CBS New York, The Washington Post, Billboard and many more.

In the midst of the barreling momentum, Houser performed for the nation last week on FOX News Channel’s Fox & Friends, Walmart Soundcheck, AOL Sessions, Yahoo! Ram Country and Better TV, and interviewed on GAC’s Headline Country, and CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown where he was challenged to see how country feels truly feels by hilariously having to identify different obscure “country” objects while blindfolded.

Chris Talbott of the Associated Press writes How Country Feels is “stuffed with country soul-inflected mid-tempo arrangements that highlight Houser’s rich voice, there’s likely a few more hits among its 15 tracks.” Rhapsody’s Linda Ryan adds, “How County Feels is a polished collection whose other gems include feel-good ‘Growin’ Younger’ and frivolous charmer ‘Absolutely Nothing.’ But Houser’s soulful voice shines brightest on the straight and sincere songs, like ‘The Singer,’ ‘Power of a Song’ and ‘Route 3 Box 250 D.’”

Annie Reuter, online reviewer for CBS New York, who attended his sold-out show in New York City at Mercury Lounge which was broadcast live on Sirius XM’s “The Highway” notes, “Randy segued effortlessly from the high energy numbers to the slower ones but just because he got quieter didn’t mean the crowd ever would. No doubt excited for his show, fans screamed requests and compliments throughout his set. ‘You play like there’s 18,000 of us. We love it!’ one fan screamed.’”

Houser will make yet another national appearance on CONAN on Tuesday, February 5 at 11 p.m. EST / 10 p.m. CST, where he will perform “How Country Feels.” Tune in to TBS to watch.

With a relentless tour schedule this year across the U.S., Houser will appear with Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley on the Locked and Reloaded Tour, A full list of tour dates can be found at randyhouser.com. Follow Houser on Facebook and Twitter @RandyHouser.

Off You Should Go … to iTunes

Off I Go Cover

You know when you hear a song and you just know it has “it”? That song that you can’t wait to hear on the radio while you are driving with the windows down so other cars can hear it? The song you sing at the top of your lungs? Well, remember that Cherie Oakley single, “Off I Go,” we teased last week? Well, it is now available on iTunes, and it is just that kind of song!

“Off I Go” has a Laura Bell Bundy “Shakin’” fun beat with some serious Miranda Lambert attitude. Add these things together with Cherie’s unparalleled vocals, and it certainly has all the components to be a huge hit!

While I would love to stay here and go on and on about how fantastic this new single is, I have one thing to say — “hell no, off I go!” I have a song to listen to on repeat!

What are you waiting for? Head over to iTunes and download “Off I Go”! Let us know what you think of Cherie’s song by leaving us a comment here or contacting us on Twitter @keepinitblog.

Miranda Lambert Covers February Redbook

miranda-lambert-redbook

Miranda Lambert has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind, and as the cover girl of February’s Redbook Magazine, she does just that. The article tackles every topic from Twitter and insecurities, to “being the bad guy” and her endearingly big-mouthed hubby, Blake Shelton.

And while she may look as tough as gunpowder and lead, Miranda is full of her own insecurities and insists she’s a big ol’ softy:

“I’m insecure about tons of things! I cry onstage once a week, singing ‘The House That Built Me,’ and I always tell the crowd, ‘Don’t tell anyone I was cryin’!’ Or ‘Over You,’ when Blake and I had all that loss in our lives.”
