REVIEW: Miranda Lambert – Platinum

Miranda Lambert.

Miranda Lambert released her fifth album on Wednesday, choosing a simple play on the word Platinum for the title. She could be referring to her platinum blonde hair but, seeing as how her last four albums all went platinum in sales, it is more likely an easy prediction. This album finds Lambert at her most introspective and nostalgic, everything from the lyrical content to the adventurous spirit of the compositions, Platinum relishes the past. Though she presents more of her rootsy side, she blends it with the modern pop sensibility, pushing herself as only a fully-developed artist is able to do.

It is musically her most diverse album to date, going from lively guitar shredding in “Little Red Wagon” to a lap-steel ballad in “Smokin’ and Drinkin’ (feat. Little Big Town)”. On Platinum we find Lambert stretching the limits of the genre and experimenting sonically while keeping her strong voice and persona intact. It is this voice that holds the album together, guiding us through her corner of the south, sharing the perspective of a confident, strong and charismatic woman who offers no apologies. From feminist issues to her marriage to Blake Shelton, she takes her daily concerns and filters them through her realistic and often humorous perspective.

It’s her fifth record with Sony Music Nashville, and features some pretty big duets from her friends like Little Big Town, The Time Jumpers and Carrie Underwood.

Miranda Lambert recently discussed her upcoming album, Platinum, with ABC News Radio.

Platinum is set for release on June 3rd, and the 5-time ACM Female Vocalist of the Year is writing all about life as a 30-year-old girl. She shared: “I always try to make my records be about where I am right now. I’m 30 years old. I’m happily married, but I still have problems good and bad. I face everyday life as a 30-year-old girl. So, I wrote a lot about that.”

Further, she went on to provide some insight into a few tracks. “Bathroom Sink” deals with issues of body image; “Priscilla” addresses the reality of having a famous husband; and “Little Red Wagon” shows off her sense of humor that has come more to the surface thanks to her other half, Blake Shelton.

Lambert feels there is something on Platinum for everybody, and she hopes that everyone can relate. With Miranda’s track record and talent, I don’t think she has anything to worry about.

In the meantime, while we are all anxiously waiting for June 3rd, we can listen to the album’s fantastic lead single and top 10 hit, “Automatic”!

Miranda-Lambert-Platinum

In case you were counting, June 3rd is 85 days away. That means we only have to wait 85 more days for new music from Miranda Lambert, as her highly-anticipated album, Platinum, hits stores that day. It may seem like a ways away, but the album will be Miranda’s fifth and comes over two and a half years after her last record.

“From the day you kinda go I need to start looking for songs and writing songs, it feels like no matter how much time you have, you’re rushed,” Lambert said to ABC NEWS. “And so I didn’t want to rush it at all. To me it’s all about timing and making sure that you can feel like you can finally sit there and go, OK, the album’s done, and never have a moment where you go, I wish we could change that or I wish we had a different song.”

The album will feature 16 new tracks, and continue her expansion across genre and subject matters. To Lambert, it’s a collection of tracks that reflect her current life, as fans have already heard on the first-single “Automatic.” Country fans are also in for a girl-power treat when Lambert pairs with fellow blonde bombshell, Carrie Underwood, on “Something Bad.”

“We’re really rocking in country music and we’re coming together as a force,” Lambert says of the duet.. “To me, like, if you’re sitting on the front row, you might want to scoot back. It’s a force. It just feels exciting to me. I’m ready to rock.”

Sarah Darling‘s “Blackbird,” a remake of the Paul McCartney penned Beatles classic, will be featured in the 200th episode of CBS’ Criminal Minds at 9 p.m. EST/PST tonight.

Darling was also in the news last week, receiving a nod from country music superstar Carrie Underwood in an interview with Glam, who said she would like to see more females doing really well in country music. “The ones who are out there — myself, Miranda, Reba, Taylor — are doing really well. I would just love to see more,” Underwood said. “It makes me a little sad when I do look at the charts and I see one female in the top 20. I really hope this is the year of the woman, and I really hope that there are some really breakthrough, amazing female artists that people can hear.” She goes on to specifically reference Darling, saying she has “such a sweet voice.”

Miranda Lambert Joins Jason Aldean’s Tour

Miranda Lambert

The lineup for Jason Aldean’s Burn It Down Tour is already on fire with special guests Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr.  The sparks continue to fly with the addition of a fiery female superstar.

Miranda Lambert will join Aldean for select baseball stadium dates in Cleveland (July 18), Cincinnati (July 19), and Pittsburgh (July 26) this summer.

The stars announced the news through a series of humorous tweets.  When Aldean asked for another player for his wiffle ball team, Lambert was quick to step up to the plate.  She then graciously accepted Aldean’s invitation to play some songs while she is there as well.

The conversation ended with both artists expressing their excitement:

@Jason_Aldean: Cool. It’s official. @mirandalambert is joining us @Indians @CincinnatiReds @Pirates – More info at jasonaldean.com #BurnItDownTour

@mirandalambert: Can’t wait to party with @Jason_Aldean on the #BurnItDownTour! I’m coming for ya @Indians @CincinnatiReds @Pirates

Miranda Lambert Releases New Single “Automatic” February 5

miranda-lambert-automatic
The wait is ALMOST up for those as anxious as us to hear new music from Miranda Lambert. The country spitfire’s new single “Automatic” will hit radio on February 5th.The track is the first single from her forthcoming album, to be released later this year. It was co-written by Miranda, Nicolle Galyon and Natalie Hemby. It’s described as an autobiographical song that reflects back on the days of pay phones, learning to drive stick shift, driving to Dallas to buy an Easter dress, recording the country countdown on her cassette recorder and more.

“‘Automatic’ is a song about the good life,” said Miranda. “It’s about slowing down, taking a breath and remembering what it’s like to live life a little more simply. It’s not about going back, but reminiscing about what it was like to hang laundry on the line and wait for it to dry and my dad teaching me how to drive my ’55 Chevy that I still have but don’t drive nearly enough,” she said. “The song brings back good memories and it reminds me to take a deep breath and to remember that getting there is half the fun.”

“Automatic” is the debut single from Miranda’s fifth album, which will be released later this year. “It’s always exciting and little bit nerve-wracking to release a new album,” said Miranda. “We’ve been writing and recording since last summer and I’m ready for the fans to hear my new music.”
