Country stars react to Mindy McCready’s suicide

It’s been a tragic twenty-four hours for the country music community after learning about the passing of singer Mindy McCready. The “Ten Thousand Angels” artist was found dead from an apparent suicide last night in Arkansas. Mindy was 37 years old and leaves behind a six year old and a nine-year old son.

Mindy McCready commits suicide

We were waiting to post this sad piece of breaking news until it was confirmed. Country star Mindy McCready has passed away from an apparent suicide, her brother has confirmed to NY Daily News. She was 37 years old when she took her own life earlier tonight in Arkansas. She was in good spirits when her father, Tim McCready, had left her this morning on his way to Florida, reports E!.

Mindy, a mother of two young boys aged six years old and nine months, has had recent struggles with alcohol and mental health issues. Her boyfriend, producer David Wilson, passed away from what was believed to be suicide in January.

Mindy released five studio albums through her career, with her most successful being her debut BNA Records release “Ten Thousand Angels,” which went on to sell more than two million copies.

Emergency Order Issued For Mindy McCready’s Son

A Florida judge has just granted police the power to take away Mindy McCready‘s son when he is found. Zander, 5, was taken from his grandparent’s home by the singer earlier this week. She does not have custody of her child, and now he’s been officially named a missing person. Judge James H. Seals signed an “emergency pick-up order” for the child, who was not returned today despite court orders, according to CNN.

“The child is now an official missing person,” said Aimee McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Children’s Network of Southwest Florida, the lead agency for child welfare services.

Mindy has yet to be charged with any crime in the matter. A case worker reportedly visited the home last week and did not find any problems, but by Tuesday when another case worker arrived, Zander was not to be found on the property. The worker then called law enforcement.

Mindy has said that the boy is with her, and has been saying that he is safe. She allowed Florida law enforcement officals to see him on Skype. Mindy has also announced that she is pregnant with twins.

“Ms. McCready’s number one priority has always been, and continues to be, the safety of her son,” publicist Kat Atwood said in the statement. “The 5-year-old boy has been with his mother for more than 30 days; law enforcement officials spoke with the child and saw Zander via Skype yesterday.”

The Mindy McCready circus had another trick thrown out late last night. The Associated Press is reporting that Mindy is seven months pregnant with twins and that she is safe in Nashville, Tennessee after taking her 5-year old son from his home in Florida. Mindy and her mother have had a long custody battle over her son, Zander, and her mother was awarded custody in 2007.

A Florida judge ruled that Mindy must return the boy to his home by 5 pm EST today or face consequences. The Florida Department of Children and Families had acknowledged that a missing persons report was filed earlier this week for the boy.
