Top 11 Country Albums Of 2011

Pistol Annies.

2011 has been quite a year for country music. We’ve seen touching, real-life singles like “Cost Of Livin’” to new party anthems like “Red Solo Cup.” There’s been albums that have broken records, and albums that have surprised fans. We’ve had all-girl groups form, and some groups losing members this year. One thing is for sure… 2011 has been a big one for country music.

We’ve put together our top eleven list of the eleven best albums released this year. Some of our picks may surprise you, so make sure to take a look and let us know on Twitter, Facebook, or right here in the comments about what you think, how you feel, and if you think we missed someone we shouldn’t have.

Video Picks Of The Week: December 16, 2011

Blake Shelton

Hello my country music friends…

It’s “Video Picks of the Week” time again! I hope you are enjoying the weekly videos. Don’t forget to leave some comments and any suggestions for videos or artists you would like to see in the future.

Music Video

This week’s music video is Martina McBride‘s powerful ballad, “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.” The song is the second single off of her new album, Eleven, and also just garnered McBride a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Country Solo Performance.” The song and video are very emotional with an inspiring message of hope, and McBride’s powerhouse vocals were the perfect fit for the track. Thank-you to Martina for recording this song, for all it represents, and for the awareness it brings.

Live Performance

The live performance pick is Blake Shelton performing his number one hit, “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking,” for AOL Sessions. The song was the second single off of his EP, All About Tonight. It is one of my all-time favorite Blake tracks.

Cover Song

I think most of us can agree that not many artists have had a bigger year than Adele, and deservingly so. This week’s cover song video is Adele and Darius Rucker‘s beautiful performance of Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now” at last year’s CMT Artists of the Year.

What You Didn’t See On TV At The CMA Awards

We were in the Bridgestone Arena for the 45th annual Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) last night in Nashville, Tennessee. It really was country music’s party of the year and even the celebrities were in on the party. Here’s some of the moments that didn’t make it to television:

  • Only 9,000 lights were handed out to fans for Martina McBride’s performance of “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.” During every break, the announcement was made not to turn on the lights until it was announced later in the show. Somehow a bunch of the artists got a hold of the lights and were playing with them during some performances.
  • Blake Shelton was late to his seat after the 10 second countdown to the live performance of Taylor Swift. He ran back to his seat right in front of Taylor almost 20 seconds into her performance: he was too busy talking with friends to realize the show was on. It was a pretty funny moment.
  • The boys of Rascal Flatts were dancing behind the wall during Lionel Richie’s duet with Darius Rucker. Their dance session included Jay DeMarcus dancing with his bass guitar in circles.
  • Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton both had their red solo cups on hand under the seats the whole show. During breaks they would take them out and drink.
  • Half-way through the show they had to start “please return to your seats” announcements because the artists were having too much fun chatting with each other to hear the live countdown.
  • There were no harnesses or safety nets on the ribbon dancers in Sara Evans’ performance.
  • Miranda Lambert gave every crew member and band member for her performance fist-pumps before they went live with “Baggage Claim.” The heat of the fire from the finale of the performance was felt even at the top rows of the arena.
