VIDEO: Martina McBride’s Peyton Plea

Things are heating up in the bid for sports fans to win over football star Peyton Manning. Nashville is pulling out all the stops to try and convince him to join the Titans – even enlisting country music superstar Martina McBride in an ESPN pitch to try and get Peyton to return to Music City. He even has an open invitation from the Grand Ole Opry to have a reserved VIP parking space and a performance spot on the historic stage! I’m not sure what other cities can compete with that.

See what else Nashville will do if the star returns home, and see how Martina tried to put on the charm, including voice lessons, if Peyton becomes a Titan in this video.

George Strait Reschedules Show

George Strait.

The king of country music has been forced to reschedule his Kansas City date with Martina McBride after suffering from a bad case of bronchitis. George Strait will return to the city on March 3rd, with Martina, and all tickets will be honored at the new date. After Martina performed her full set at the concert, George had to leave after two of his own and cancelled the rest of his performance. It was a hard decision for George, who had debated the issue a few times over with management prior to taking the stage.

The show will return on Saturday, March 6th with Martina. We hope he feels better soon!

Top 10 Live Tracks (2000 – Now)

Kenny Chesney. photo credit: iheartradio

There’s nothing we here at Keepin’ It Country love more than live music, so it only made sense to put together a list of some of our favorite live tracks to share with you all, our lovely readers! This particular list is made up of only live tracks from 2000 – 2012, mostly because trying to go through the entire live history of country music turned out to be a bit daunting. Also, all tracks in consideration had to have been released commercially at some point, so no bootlegs here! (Though that could easily be another list.)

Now that the fine print is out of the way, check out our picks below!

10. Love & Theft – “Don’t Wake Me” – Live in Savannah EP

Love & Theft’s performance of “Don’t Wake Me,” off of the band’s Live in Savannah EP, highlights everything that’s great about the group. Three (now two) great looking guys singing perfect harmonies on killer pop-country songs. Any cut from this album could have made our list, but this was a personal favorite. The band gained certain notoriety when Taylor Swift wrote “Hey Stephen” about member Stephen Barker Liles, but if Love & Theft can keep their moment going with live shows like this one there’s a good chance they’ll give Rascal Flatts a run for their money in a few years.

9. Kenny Chesney – “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy – Live Those Songs Again

Kenny Chesney has long ruled the country music touring circuit; one of the few acts in any genre that can consistently sell out stadiums, so it should be no surprise that he made our list. “Tractor” is a reminder of exactly what makes Kenny so fun to see live. It’s a fun summertime party with the best soundtrack.

10. Casey James

He’s not the only American Idol alum on the list, but comes in at number ten. Casey James has made a name for himself as a true musician with great stage presence and killer guitar abilities, as anyone who saw him opening for Sugarland this past summer can attest. Shortly after Idol James sighed with Sony Music Nashville and dropped his first single, “Let’s Don’t Call It a Night,” this past August. Look for a full album from James in 2012!

9. Martina McBride

Fans of Tim McGraw aren’t the only ones counting down until January 17. Martina McBride fans also have something to look forward to in the form of a greatest hits collection being released through her former label, RCA Records. The release is sure to be a must have for anyone who wants all her hits all in one place. The tracklisting features 20 songs from her very first hits up through more current favorites.

Top 20 Singles Of 2011

Ronnie Dunn.

2011 has been one heck of a year for country music. We’ve seen singles from all different sides of the spectrum: from songs that make you want to get up and dance, to songs that make you want to cry. Country has always been very good at dealing with real-life issues. It’s the story songs that make country music the genre it is. It has a way of moving you, either to get up and party, or to remember what’s really going on in the world.

It was hard to narrow down the highlight songs of the year into one package, but Ted Efron and myself sat down to do just that. There might be some surprises on our list, but these are the songs that defined a genre for 2011. Take a look at our list below and let us know if you agree, disagree, or think we forgot someone we shouldn’t have. Not all of these songs are singles, some are just the best album tracks that should have been singles this year.
