The nominees were just announced earlier this morning for this year’s American Country Awards. The third edition of the fan-voted award show will once again air live on FOX from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The nominees for Song of the Year are determined by the National Songwriters Association International (NSAI). The award show will air live on December 10th on FOX at 8 pm EST.

Artists leading all nominees this year are Luke Bryan with seven, and Lady Antebellum tying for second with Zac Brown Band with six nominations each. Eric Church and Taylor Swift both have five nominations each. Check out the full list of nominees below and let us know who you’ll be voting for. Fans can vote at theacas.com for their favorite artists, and make sure to tune in December 10th to see who wins!

Performers and presenters will be announced shortly, so stay tuned for that announcement too!

Lauren Alaina Has A Big Heart

laurencityofrefuge

Rossville, Georgia native Lauren Alaina made her way back to her hometown area this past week to give back in her free time in between her Eighteen Cities Inch-By-Inch tour. While Lauren might be just like your typical 17-year old teenager, she also has a huge heart with a big desire to help others. On Thursday of last week, Lauren made her way over to the City of Refuge in Dalton, GA to spend some time with the children and their families in the refuge community.

“I love kids, I was going to be a special needs teacher before I was a singer,” Lauren explained before going in to meet the children at the City of Refuge. “Anything I can do around my area to help out, I’m always excited to be a part of that. I have this thing where like if I see a homeless person out on the road, I’ve never passed a homeless person and not given them money. My friends are always like ‘Lauren, don’t look!’ because they know I give them anything in my wallet. Or, if all I have is my credit card, I go buy them food. I’ve always had a special heart for them.” At the age of 9, Lauren met a homeless man named Kevin that she became friends with, and she attributes her feelings towards homeless men and women to this. “You never know what the circumstances are for the person that’s on the side of the street. People are quick to judge them and think that they just don’t want to work, but that’s not always the case. So, I have a big heart for people who, you know, aren’t as fortunate as I am.”

Lauren Alaina Announces 18 City Tour

Lauren_Alaina

I think it’s safe to say that 18 is a lucky number for Lauren Alaina right now. She has just announced an 18-city tour, in honor of her 18th birthday on November 8th, and her current single “Eighteen Inches.” It seems like just yesterday that she was 15 trying out for American Idol, doesn’t it?

Well, Lauren’s all grown up now! She will be teaming up with local charities and the Special Olympics to embark on this journey, and will donate a portion of each of her sales from her limited edition 18-City Inch-By-Inch Tour t-shirts. Lauren is trying to make a difference city-by-city, inch-by-inch.

Fans who cannot make it to one of these shows can still do their part and purchase the limited edition t-shirt from Lauren’s website www.laurenalainaofficial.com.

“Eighteen Inches,” co-written by Carrie Underwood, Kelley Lovelace and Ashley Gorley, has hit the Top 40 on the country singles chart and is steadily rising.

Lots of young screams and cheers could be heard at the Grand Ole Opry last night as Lauren Alaina made her 4th appearance, performing 3 songs for the packed Wednesday night crowd. She opened up her set with her new single, “Eighteen Inches,” which made it’s debut on the Billboard Charts at #55 this week. Next up, she performed a medley of Kitty Wells songs, including ‘Release Me (And Let Me Love Again)’ and ‘It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,’ in honor of the late singer who passed away on July 16. Kitty Wells was the first female artist to have a #1 song on the charts.

Lauren’s beautiful voice was sure to make Kitty Wells proud, along with her sassy stage presence. Before closing her set with Georgia Peaches, she announced “Kitty Wells was a sassy little thing and I love it! So am I.”

Mercury Nashville/19 Recordings/Interscope and American Idol Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina will release her new single ”Eighteen Inches,” off her debut album Wildflower, to radio on July 16. This is the third single off Wildflower, following “Georgia Peaches” and “Like My Mother Does.”

The song was co-written by fellow American Idol contestant and big-time country artist Carrie Underwood, Kelley Lovelace and Ashley Gorley.

“It’s amazing to have an artist like Carrie Underwood, whom I look up to so much write my single,” beamed Alaina. “Kelley, Ashley, and Carrie all did a wonderful job writing such an incredible song. I feel so honored to be able to bring to life the beautiful story within the song.”

“It’s so wonderful when a song you had a hand in writing finds the perfect home,” said Carrie Underwood. “Lauren’s voice tells the story of ‘Eighteen Inches’ beautifully. What an incredible talent!”

It’s great to see that Lauren and Carrie are now friends, after Lauren had the chance to sing with Carrie on the American Idol finale for season 10. We personally love “Eighteen Inches” and hope this will be a big hit for Lauren! What do you think?
