This Sunday marks the 40th Anniversary of the American Music Awards, and when we think of decades past, we think of one thing — crazy fashion choices! So, in anticipation of this year’s big show, we decided to do a little fashion policing of our own (sorry Joan), because though the awards are really about the music, the thing that seems to get the most lasting buzz is the red carpet do’s and don’t's! Below are our staff’s picks for country music’s fashionistas and fashion faux pas in AMA history!

With the CMA’s coming up on Thursday night, country fans everywhere are buzzing with anticipation over who will claim the biggest awards. Will Taylor repeat as Entertainer of the Year or could someone else finally upset her shocked face? Could Kelly Clarkson score a major upset for female vocalist? Is there really any other choice besides “Red Solo Cup” for music video of the year?!
Even OUR staff couldn’t agree, so read on and let us know who you think will score big on Thursday night!
Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley and Little Big Town have just been announced as performers for this year’s American Country Awards on FOX. Other stars announced to appear as presenters are Dustin Lynch, Lauren Alaina, Casey James, LeAnn Rimes, Lee Brice, Jana Kramer, Scotty McCreery, and Chris Young.
The two-hour live music spectacular offers country music fans the opportunity to vote for their favorite artists not only in traditional categories, but also in a previously unrecognized area – touring – encompassing the entire spectrum of country music.
Christmas is coming a little early this year for Jennifer Nettles and friends. On November 3, Jennifer will host a CMA “Country Christmas” in Nashville, Tennessee at the Bridgestone Arena. Along with Jennifer, the following artists will be bringing the seasonal spirit to Nashville: Dierks Bentley, Colbie Caillat, Katherine Jenkins, Lady Antebellum, John Legend, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Scotty McCreery, The Band Perry and Keith Urban.
The nominees were just announced earlier this morning for this year’s American Country Awards. The third edition of the fan-voted award show will once again air live on FOX from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. While the co-hosts remain the same with Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth, there is something new about the award show – the addition of the “Song Of The Year” category which will honor country music’s top songwriters of 2012. The nominees for Song of the Year are determined by the National Songwriters Association International (NSAI). The award show will air live on December 10th on FOX at 8 pm EST.
Artists leading all nominees this year are Luke Bryan with seven, and Lady Antebellum tying for second with Zac Brown Band with six nominations each. Eric Church and Taylor Swift both have five nominations each. Check out the full list of nominees below and let us know who you’ll be voting for. Fans can vote at theacas.com for their favorite artists, and make sure to tune in December 10th to see who wins!
Performers and presenters will be announced shortly, so stay tuned for that announcement too!
In what might just be the world’s biggest cover of The Beatles’ “Hey Jude,” stars from all over the United States have teamed up to help promote the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. From the Nashville side of things, appearing in the below video is Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Big & Rich, Kellie Pickler, Darius Rucker and Alabama. The video also gets a little help from Robin Williams, Jimmy Kimmel, Jordin Sparks, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Aniston, Betty White and more!
Take a look below and see if you can name all the cameos:
Country music’s super-trio Lady Antebellum will be releasing a documentary-style DVD for fans. While there’s no release date set yet for the DVD, it features live footage from a concert stop in Little Rock, Arkansas. The “Own The Night” DVD aims to show fans what life really is like on the road for the group, and will combine the behind-the-scenes footage with their live show.
Charles Kelley shares:
“To me, the most entertaining parts of watching things and bands is what goes on behind the scenes. So, there’s a lot of that.”
The group is busy working on the release of their upcoming Christmas album “On This Winter’s Night” on October 22nd. Will you be picking up the DVD when it comes out?
Looks like we’re getting a lot more Christmas spirit this October. Country music super-trio Lady Antebellum have revealed plans and a track listing for their brand new Christmas album “On This Winter’s Night,” which will hit digital and physical music retailers on October 22nd.
The group’s Hillary is pretty excited about releasing her own holiday album for country music fans. She shares:
“I love the excitement, the child-like spirit of innocence and just about everything that goes along with Christmas. My little sister will be 12 this Christmas and it is always so sweet to see her wake up every Christmas morning and wonder what Santa brought her. It was that way for me growing up and it’s so amazing to be able to spend that time with her now.”
Charles Kelley adds:
“The perfect winter’s night for me would be with all the family together. As you get a little older and everybody has their jobs and then families and kids, it definitely becomes harder to get everybody together at once. It would be pretty special to have the whole family in the room and get back to where we were as kids…all waking up on Christmas morning, walking down and having that tradition.”
Dave Haywood explains how the album came together:
“We recorded this album in two sections, but both times were in the summertime. It is always weird to be in the studio working on Christmas music in June and July, so we decorated the entire studio, we really did. We brought out lights, fake trees and decorated the place to get in the Christmas spirit. You’d leave the studio, and it’d be 100 degrees out in Nashville, but nonetheless, a great experience.“
Between legs of their “OWN THE NIGHT 2012 WORLD TOUR” earlier this year, Lady A hit the studio in Nashville to record the new collection where they also return as co-producers alongside veteran producer Paul Worley. For the festive release, the trio penned the album’s title track and created their own arrangements for two of the disc’s additional 11 holiday classics.
