The Canadian Country Music Association Awards was definitely enough to remind Canadians of the amazing talent that represents us in the country music industry. Tonight (09/09), we saw some of the best of the best rock the stage in Saskatoon and accept awards that they were most deserving of.

Dean Brody opened the show with his hit “Canadian Girls,” kicking off a show that would see him win two awards: Best Male Artist and Album of the Year.

Other country faves taking home hardware at this year’s show included Carolyn Dawn Johnson, who won Female Artist of the Year and Hey Romeo, this year’s Group or Duo of the Year. Ottawa’s sweetest and brightest new talent, Kira Isabella, took home the Rising Star award. The Stellas, who have been out on the road with Johnny Reid, took home the award for CMT Video of the Year for their song “In This House.” Johnny, who had a whopping eight nominations tonight, was the recipient of the Fans’ Choice award.

It’s that time of year again, country music fans! The Country Music Association has just announced that superstars Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum will announced the CMA Awards nominees live on ABC on Wednesday, September 5th. The two acts will announce the final nominations for the “46th Annual Country Music Association Awards” live on Good Morning America.

The awards themselves will once again be co-hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley live from the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville, Tennessee on November 1st. Jason and Lady A’s announcement is of the to-air nominees going into the award show.

Jason and Lady A’s segment will air in the 8:30 am EST hour of the morning show. They’ll announce five nominees in that first appearance live in the ABC studios, and then the rest at 9:15 am EST at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square in New York City. This is the first time since 2005 that all CMA Awards nominations will be announced in New York City.

“The CMA Awards are ‘Country Music’s Biggest Night™,’ and it’s something that all of us look forward to all year. From the day the nominations are announced up until the show, there’s a lot of build-up and anticipation for the Awards and also for the performances,” explained Aldean. “I feel honored to be able to help make the nominations announcement on ‘Good Morning America,’ and hopefully I’ll get to read some of my friends’ names that morning.”

Lady Antebellum are equally as excited to be part of Country Music’s Biggest Night:

“I’ll never forget our first CMA nomination and what that felt like,” added Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley. “The CMAs have been really good to us the last few years, and it’s still unbelievable to me when I see our name on a list of nominees. That night is always such a blast because it’s your chance to catch up with everyone and celebrate Country Music and all the hard work put in throughout the year.”

Lee Brice will be in Nashville to announce the finalists for the broadcast CMA awards. The final ballot for CMA members starts October 4th to determine the winners of the night. Who do you hope gets nominated and who do you think will win?

Lady Antebellum Wrap Up North American Tour

Lady-Antebellum

The North American leg of Lady Antebellum‘s “Own The Night Tour” has officially come to an end. The tour, sponsored by GAC, featured special guests Darius Rucker and Thompson Square on the 85-city run across Canada and the United States. Lady A hit a milestone of playing to over one million fans on this tour, and they should be getting even more: they’re heading off to Europe and Australia for more Own The Night World Tour dates this Summer.

“I remember how exciting and special it was to hear we sold out the first weekend of the tour back in the Fall,” said Charles Kelley.  ”I seriously had no idea that so many others would follow, especially places like LA and Chicago, or that we would be sitting here eight months later saying we played to a million fans.  It doesn’t even register.”

For Hillary, the most important thing about the tour was the connection the group made with their fans:

“What I love is the connection we made with all of those fans,” added Hillary Scott.  ”It truly felt like we got to know everyone in the arena every night, which was one of our biggest goals when we started brainstorming on a paper plate last summer in Lake Tahoe.  We invited fans up on stage most nights and just tried to get as close as possible to them…it was one giant sing-along each night.   As a songwriter, it’s so cool to hear the lyrics you wrote with your best friends in the back of a bus echoing back to you by so many people.”\

Newlywed Dave Haywood shares a little on their closeness as a group, and how they’re already going to be working on a new album together:

“We’ve definitely become closer as a band – musically and personally – over this tour too,” noted Dave Haywood. “We are really proud of our show and how much we’ve grown on stage.  Moments like selling out two nights in our hometown of Augusta, GA with all our friends and family around are really going to make us miss being on the road this Fall, but we’re looking forward to working on new music and getting back into the studio.”\

The “Own The Night World Tour” had kicked off in Knoxville, Tennessee back on November 11th, 2011 with an entourage of over 100 people and 10 buses for the production of the highly interactive show, who traveled over 46,000 miles across North America just for this tour. They’re about to get even more mileage when the next leg of the tour visits the United Kingdom, (including a stop opening for Bruce Springsteen), Ireland, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway and Sweden before heading off to Australia in the Fall.
