REVIEW: Kenny Chesney – Welcome To The Fishbowl

Kenny Chesney.

Kenny Chesney’s new album, “Welcome To The Fishbowl”, dropped today. It features his fantastic hit duets, “You and Tequila” with Grace Potter, and “Feel Like a Rock Star” with pal Tim McGraw. For the most part, the album follows the “You and Tequila” style. Chesney tones down the party-boy attitude on this release, opting instead for more brooding (and sometimes downright gloomy) numbers.

Chesney opens with recently released single “Come Over”, a softer take on the same theme as Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now”. While Chesney is better known for his upbeat, party-country tunes, he sounds just as comfortable with this heartsick, melancholy track. In “Come Over”, you notice a sense of real longing, almost begging, on the part of the singer. It’s no surprise this one is climbing the charts already.

Kenny Chesney Turns Producer

You may recall Kenny Chesney‘s hit, “You and Tequila.” You may also recall that female vocals that provided some depth and beauty to the track. That female vocalist is Grace Potter, and the musical bond she and Chesney created continues on as the two joined forces again; this time to create tracks for Potter’s album.

With his longtime co-producer Buddy Cannon, Chesney produced “Stars” and “Ragged Company” on the deluxe version of Potter’s ”The Lion The Beast The Beat” album which was released this week. Chesney first heard “Stars” in February. “We were hanging out in her kitchen and she grabbed her guitar and played me a verse and chorus of the song which she was still writing,” recalls Chesney. “I love the creative process. I was there when the song was born and we nurtured it through the studio and onto the record. That’s pretty cool.” Chesney and Alison Krauss also provide background vocals on the song.

“Ragged Company” first appeared on Potter’s 2006 debut album and they reprised the song with guest vocalist Willie Nelson. Chesney’s ”Welcome To The Fishbowl” album will be released next week and features Grace Potter on the song “El Cerrito Place.”

Kenny Chesney.

Country music superstar Kenny Chesney never really considered himself to be a family man. He isn’t the kind of person to attach himself to something, and that’s exactly why a friend intervened, he tells PEOPLE magazine. Kenny added a new member to the Chesney household back in January – and now finds himself to be completely attached to him! For the first time in his life, Kenny is a proud dog owner. He found himself with a gold snickerdoodle named Pancho and now Kenny can’t see himself without his new best friend!

“A friend gave it to me and said, ‘Here, Kenny, you have to learn to attach to something!’ God’s honest truth!” Chesney tells PEOPLE. “Now, I love the guy.”

Looks like the puppy is fitting right in with the summer superstar. Pancho already loves being out on the water with his owner:

“That little guy, he’ll eat everything in sight – whether it’s edible or not – and he loves the water,” Chesney says. “I took him down to my boat, and he jumps right off.”

It’s sounding like fans can keep their eyes out for the newest roadie out on the Brothers of the Sun tour – Kenny is thinking about bringing Pancho out on the bus with him and Tim McGraw.

“The plan is to take him on tour,” he says. “We’ll see if he’s got what it takes.”

Make sure you pick up the latest edition of PEOPLE Country to read all about the Brothers of the Sun tour, and to see a picture of Kenny and Tim back in the day. The issue is out on stands right now.
