Country music’s own Kellie Pickler is the leading lady on the cover of Maxim magazine’s special military tribute issue, “Maxim Salutes The Military.” The issue, which hits newsstands on Tuesday, July 31st, features Kellie on the cover and in the centerfold in a 1950′s-style with a modern flare, and an in-depth personal interview on why she loves performing for the troops overseas with her USO Tours. The story, and full photo spread, is live on Maxim.com right now.

In the cover story, Kellie remembers the sacrifices made for her country’s freedom.

“I come from a military family. My grandfather is a retired Marine, and I’ve always had a great deal of respect for anyone who serves our country. It really does take someone special to sacrifice everything. I don’t mean just their lives, either. There are men who are sacrificing the chance to hold their newborn baby!” she says.

The issue will be available on July 31st for the month of August. Check out the cover picture below:

Kellie Pickler Discusses Split from Sony

Kellie Pickler.

Fans were shocked when Kellie Pickler and BNA Nashville announced their amicable split earlier this month. The singer released her new album “100 Proof” only this year. It was our favorite album from Kellie yet, and hers, too. She opened up with Entertainment Weekly about the split and the album making process, which she admits was “hell” this time around.

Kellie explains the difference between making an album at 19, and why she feels “100 Proof” was more who she was:

Luke Wooten and Frank Lidell — they helped me discover the artist in myself. Since American Idol, it’s been like a blur. I’ve been pulled in a hundred different directions by a hundred different people. You know, signing contracts that I couldn’t read, but I was 19 and green and it was, “Sign this contract or go back to working in fast food,” and I didn’t want to do that.”

Kellie continues:

“Luke and Frank sat me down and I got to just sit with an acoustic guitar and I got to sing songs to them that I grew up on. You know Tammy, Merle, Waylon, Al Dexter, Kitty Wells. I could just go on and on and on. I just love traditional country music. They saw that in me, and that’s real. That’s me. When this album came out, the people that know me, my friends, went, “There’s Kellie. There you are.”

Kellie was frustrated with what she believed was a lack of promotion behind her when her album was released. She didn’t like not having a single out on the radio when her album hit stores:

“Well, it wasn’t promoted. When my album came out, I didn’t even have a song out on the radio. Nobody does that. [The label was] spread thin. When I was making my record, the CEO left. He retired. They brought in Gary [Overton]. My A&R left. They brought in somebody else. I went through four heads of promotion when my record was coming out. The only consistency was inconsistency.”

As for what label she’s looking at joining now – she isn’t sure. Kellie is thinking about both major and independent albums, but there’s one thing that she wants from her potential new home:

“I’ve thought about the major labels versus the more independent ones. The ones that actually can probably do more for you. They have more to prove. [You want] to sign with someone that is about the music and gets you.”

Good luck, Kellie! Read the full interview on Entertainment Weekly’s site here.

Kellie Pickler Cut Off By Husband

Kellie Pickler.

Kellie Pickler‘s songwriting husband Kyle Jacobs has finally put his foot down. Kellie tells PEOPLE magazine that her husband just won’t let her take home anymore animals when she’s out on the road. She admits in the interview that she’s known for giving away animals she finds at concerts, and that rescuing animals is one of her favorite things. Right now, Kellie has three dogs and a python named Boots, but that’s enough for Kyle.

“My husband will not let me have any more animals than we do now,” she tells PEOPLE. “He never knows when the bus rolls up at home, I open the bus door, and he’s wondering what critter’s going to crawl off of there now.”

While Kellie loves helping abandoned animals find new, loving homes, she admits that it’s not always easy to watch them leave.

“I love being able to take in rescue dogs, rescue animals,” Pickler says. “But the sad thing is when you get attached to them and you have to give them away.”

Kellie Pickler No Longer With Sony Music Nashville

Kellie Pickler

We’re sad to report that it’s been confirmed that Kellie Pickler and her label, Sony Music Nashville, have parted ways. The statement was made today by her manager, Larry Fitzgerald, to ABC News Radio:

“Kellie’s contract with Sony came to an end and they mutually decided not to renew.”

100 Proof, which was released on January 24, 2012, was Kellie’s last record on her deal with Sony Music Nashville.

We’re not sure what’s ahead for Kellie, but we still see her making music in the future and we wish her the best of luck!

Kellie has been with Sony Music Nashville since 2006.
