Billboard magazine released its list of the top money makers last week, and country music’s own Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney both represent country in the top three. Taylor earned more than $35 million in 2011, beating out rock super-group U2 who only made $32 million last year. Kenny made over $29 million in 2011, placing third on the list. Kenny made the top five along with Lady Gaga, and Lil’ Wayne. Jason Aldean found his place in the top ten at number nine with a little over $13 million, placing just one spot behind Celine Dion. See the full list on Billboard’s site.

Other country stars making the top 40 include Toby Keith at number fifteen, Rascal Flatts at number eighteen, Tim McGraw at number nineteen, Brad Paisley at number twenty-one, Lady Antebellum at number twenty-six, Keith Urban at number twenty-seven, Zac Brown Band at number twenty-eight, and Sugarland beats Justin Bieber at number thirty-four.

Billboard uses U.S. income from tours, album and single sales, and publishing royalties to calculate their rankings. They do not include sponsorships, merchandise sales or synchronizing deals to put together their impressive list.

As we made note of last month in this article, Keith Urban recorded an original song for the upcoming action-thrilled Act of Valor.  The film, which will be in theatres February 24, 2012, is the first film Keith has wrote and recorded a song for.

Keith commented on the film, stating:

“I was drawn to a scene in the film where you witness an act of supreme self-sacrifice. And I thought to myself, I see what they believe in. I see what they live their life for … Now, what do believe in? What am I willing to give my life to? So from there, my co-writer and I set about writing the song.”

The Best Valentines Day Songs

pic

Here at Keepin’ It Country, we like to get a little festive. With Valentines Day tomorrow, we thought it would be fun to put together some of our favourite songs that celebrate love and are thus appropriate to celebrate during this time of year. We recognize some oldies (but goodies), as well as some more modern tunes. Nonetheless, it was rather hard trying to narrow down this list to just ten! Let us know how you feel about our picks!

Anti-Valentines Day Anthems

We recognize that not everyone is oh-so-happy around this time of year. With that being said, we thought we’d put together the best of the best anti-love songs by some of our favourite country artists. Whether you’re dealing with a bad breakup or simply boycotting Valentines Day, these songs should be on constant repeat!

Jake Owen Seeing Stars That Serve

Jake Owen.

A night out in Nashville had Jake Owen seeing stars and SEALS.  In this case, they were one and the same.

The RCA recording artist attended the Act of Valor movie screening in Nashville last night.  He wrote and recorded a song, “The Best I Can,” for the movie soundtrack and was anxious to see the film, which features active-duty Navy SEALS.

“Getting to hang out with the Navy SEALS last night was truly the biggest honor of my life,” says Jake. “Everyone should go see Act of Valor.  The movie is so intense, but it’s real. It reminds you that every single day you should be very grateful to live in this country.”

On February 14, Jake travels to NYC to perform his Top-10 hit single, “Alone with You,” on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which airs at 12:30 a.m. ET.

By the way, the rest of the Act of Valor soundtrack is pretty much a country collaboration.  Other performers on the album include Keith Urban, Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes, Trace Adkins, Josh Kelley and Wynonna.

Keith Urban recorded a special message for his loyal and loving fans last week. While hitting the stage at the Grand Ole Opry on February 3, he made time to share his appreciation for his fans and his anticipation to get back out on the road.

The gig at the Opry was Keith’s first performance after undergoing surgery to remove a polyp on his vocal chords late last November. He is also set to start filming Australia’s version of The Voice, in which he is a judge, later this month in Sydney.

Check out what Keith had to say, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage from his appearance at the Opry.

Late last year, it was announced that Keith Urban would be a judge on Australia’s version of The Voice. Later this month, Keith will begin filming for the show in Sydney, Australia.

“It’ll be a blast spending a little time in Australia working on The Voice, getting the opportunity to try to help some killer raw talent blossom,” said Urban. “And I have a feeling that being immersed in that new kind of “everything is possible” energy, will have a real inspiring and liberating effect on creating new music for my new album!”

Keith will go between Nashville and Australia over the course of the next few months. In addition to filming the show, Keith will be busy  with many appearances and performances, including his much anticipated benefit concert, All For The Hall, which will take place on April 10th at the Opry.

Good news for KU fans – Keith has started to write and find songs for his next album, although no release date has been announced yet.
