Jerrod Niemann Named ACM New Artist Of The Year Semi-Finalist

Jerrod Niemann.

The Academy of Country Music (ACM) announced this morning their eight semi-finalists up for voting for New Artist Of The Year. None were more surprised than Jerrod Niemann, who found himself up for nomination in the category after ten years in the business. On hearing that he was nominated for the semi-finalists for New Artist Of The Year, Jerrod had a little something to say:

“After 10 years, it feels great to be a New Artist because it would really be a little more awkward if it was 10 more years,” shares Niemann. “So I’ll take it when I can get it, and I’ll tell ya, better late than never, and in my case, it’s right on time.”

Other nominees include Thompson Square, Brantley Gilbert, David Nail, JT Hodges, Justin Moore, Scotty McCreery, and Hunter Hayes. See the full list of nominees for the semi-finalists below. The finalists will be chosen by interactive fan voting starting on Monday, January 16th on VoteACM.com at 9 am EST. The final nominees will be decided by a combined fan vote on both GAC and the voteACM website as well as professional voting by the ACM membership to decide the final three nominees. Voting closes on January 30th at noon EST.

The 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards will air live on CBS on April 1st. Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire return to co-host the event for the second straight year.

Jerrod Niemann’s Lover Lover Goes Platinum!

JN_plat

Congratulations to Jerrod Niemann  who will be staring off 2012 with a brand new platinum award. He has just been awarded RIAA certified platinum status for his catchy single “Lover, Lover.” Jerrod was pretty excited about the news:

“To have a Platinum single is mind-blowing,” shares Niemann. “It’s just truly a dream come true for me. “To know that people have thought ‘Man, I care about this enough to own it,’ whether it’s to get over somebody or just to, you know, ignore the words and kick your shoes off in the sun, it doesn’t matter. It’s just amazing to me.”

Jerrod will kick off the new year with a bang when he joins Chris Young opening up for Miranda Lambert‘s “On Fire” tour this week. For a full list of Jerrod’s tour dates, see his official website.

CONCERT REVIEW: Thompson Square — Love, Marriage & Music

thompson_square

In April of 2010 a still little-known Shawna and Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square were in Spokane, Washington as part of a radio station tour.  While sitting in a Guitar Center parking lot they heard their single “Let’s Fight” on the radio for the first time.  It was a big moment for the husband and wife duo and, understandably, they were excited about it.  Keifer was so excited he got out and told a woman in a nearby car to switch her radio to listen to the song.

Twenty months later, Thompson Square doesn’t need to go car-to-car to get people to listen to them.  And they certainly don’t need to look very hard to find people who know and love their music.  Last night Shawna and Keifer were again in Washington State, this time playing with Jerrod Niemann before a sold out crowd at the Snoqualmie Casino.

“Idol” Advice: McCreery Listens To Underwood’s Wisdom

American Idol’s latest country winner is taking life lessons from its first country winner.  Naturally, we’re talking about Scotty McCreery and Carrie Underwood.

Underwood, as we all know, has become arguably the most successful of all the Idol winners. (Kelly Clarkson fans might say different, but that’s why we say “arguably”.)  Her list of awards is too long to list here, but her most recent honors came this week at the American Country Awards at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.  The fan-voted show honored Underwood with three awards (which come in the form of a customized Fender Telecaster guitar):  Female Artist of the Year; Female Single of the Year and Female Video for “Mama’s Song”.

The event was McCreery’s first award show and he didn’t go home empty-handed.  Fans voted him New Artist of the Year, choosing him over Thompson Square, The Band Perry, Jerrod Niemann and The Pistol Annies.

Dierks Bentley might not yet have a release date for his new album, but that doesn’t mean he’s not in demand. He sold out his Chicago date for his Miles & Music For Kids benefit two weeks in advance of the October 9th date. It’s the fastest sell-out in the six year history of the event. All proceeds will go towards Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital. Artists slated to attend include the Eli Young Band, Jerrod Niemann, Tyler Reeve, and Matt Mason. US99′s Lisa Dent will serve as this year’s emcee at the Chicago benefit concert.

“It’s further proof that country music fans and bikers have the biggest hearts out there,” said Bentley. “It’s always fun taking this event into new cities and raising money for the local hospitals.  We are looking forward to a big day in Chicago!”

Throughout the event’s six-year history, Dierks has raised over $1.6 million for children’s hospitals across the United States in cities like Nashville, Phoenix, Dallas/Fort Worth, Atlanta, Seattle and Columbus. Tickets are still available for the Nashville chapter of the event this year. Sponsors of this year’s events include Nationwide Insurance and CMT One Country.
