EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Jared Blake

jared blake interview

Long before The Swon Brothers and Danielle Bradbery brought country music to NBC’s The Voice, country-rocker Jared Blake was representing country music for “Team Blake” on Season 1. During his time on the show, he worked closely with Blake Shelton, was mentored by Reba and won fans over with his own unique spin on songs like “Use Somebody” and “Not Ready to Make Nice.”

Since appearing on The Voice, Jared has been featured in magazines, touring, and releasing music, with his new single “Countryfied” recently hitting radio. We had a chance to chat with Jared and catch up on what he’s been up to and what the future hold.

KIC: For those readers who may be ‘meeting’ you for the first time in this blog, can you give us a little bit of a back story as to how you began performing?

JB: I started in church. Sang my 1st country song in the 8th grade for the school talent show. “Don’t Rock the Jukebox” by Alan Jackson. The girls screamed and I was hooked.

KIC: You appeared on the first season of The Voice and were a member of “Team Blake.” What was the best thing about that experience and what did you learn from the show?

JB: Reba told me I was exactly what she looked for in a artist and not to change a thing “You’re perfect” she said. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Jared Blake from NBC’s The Voice Releases First Single “Countryfied”

Long before country was a mainstay on NBC’s The Voice, Jared Blake brought country to the small screen as a member of Team Blake in 2011. Now Blake has released his first single “Countryfied” to radio, with an album to follow. The track was produced by Grammy-winner, Skidd Mills (Saving Abel).

Blake is currently performing on his nationwide “Countryfied Tour” promoting the single and playing live shows at some of the nations’ largest events and biggest stages. He has recently performed alongside of Billy Currington and Jerrod Niemann.

Review: Jared Blake, “Don’t Mind”

Jared Blake

Jared Blake has worked with Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, and the Goo Goo Dolls, but he gained public notoriety this past summer as a contestant on the NBC talent competition, The Voice. Blake was a part of the four-member Blake Shelton team, until Shelton ultimately chose Dia Frampton and Xenia Martinez to move forward into the final rounds.

Now, Blake is back with a new single titled, “Don’t Mind.” The song is a perfect match for his soulful, country rock voice.

The Voice’s Elimination Night – How Blake Shelton Shocked the World

It was the end of the line for two members of Team Blake and Team Christina tonight, and the show came to a surprising and unexpected turn. After Christina Aguilera advanced Frenchie Davis, and America picked Beverly McClellan at the top of the show, it was Blake Shelton’s turn to pick who to save after Adam Levine and Ceelo Green’s teams performed for the first time on live television.

America had chosen to advance Dia Framps after her amazing version of Kanye West’s “Heartless” last week on the show. It was also the most-downloaded iTunes performance by Team Blake since the airing, (iTunes downloads counts for votes on this show). Blake was left with the difficult decision of only choosing one other member to advance: between country heart throb Patrick Thomas, whose voice rivals American Idol’s new winner Scotty McCreery, Jared Blake the father moonlighting as a rockstar, and the young and adorable Xenia.

I wouldn’t know who to pick, but I was shocked that America didn’t send through Patrick. Blake looked to be in shock and heartbroken over having to pick who to go with, visibly uncomfortable in his chair while he delayed until the last possible second (NBC cut out in many cities across America at this point). I’m sure jaws hit the floor across the world when the shy, and cute-as-a-button Xenia was picked over the experienced and ready-for-radio Patrick and Jared. Mine sure did.

Blake’s reasoning, for those who missed out on the end of the show, was that he could help blossom Xenia’s career now more than he could for the boys. He thinks that he could change her career for the better, and that the boys are ready now for the industry.

Do you agree with Blake’s choices, or do you think his team suffered a huge setback tonight?

The Voice returns next week at 9 ET. Blake is on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno tomorrow night as the second guest.
