Gretchen Wilson’s Uncle Vern Passes Away

Our thoughts are with Gretchen Wilson and her family this week as she announced the tragic passing of her beloved Uncle Vern last night. Vernon Heuer was 44 years old when he suddenly passed away from a heart attack in his hometown of Greenville, Illinois early Friday morning.

He appeared in Gretchen’s music video for “Redneck Woman” in 2004. He became even more popular among Gretchen’s fans when he gave Ed Bradley a tour of the Big O’s Nightclub in Pocahontas, Illinois during a “60 Minutes” episode about Gretchen. He moved to Tennessee in 2005. He was engaged to be married this Fall. Vern is survived by his  fiance, his sisters Christine and Vicki, his niece and nephew Josh and Gretchen, and his beloved dogs Pete and Pete JR.

“This obviously caught all of us by surprise, and we are just devastated,” said Gretchen. “I have a hole in my heart and a void in my life that will never be filled. Vern will not only be missed by my family and me but by everyone who was ever blessed to hear his laugh and see his smiling face. I will miss you, Vern.”

Gretchen will remain on the Xtreme Muzik The Tour which she co-headlines with Big & Rich this week, however, due to funeral arrangements she will miss the Salt Lake City date. She will rejoin the tour September 15th in Woodlake, California.

The Xtreme Muzik Tour had a very special night at its stop at the Woods Amphitheater last night. The tour, which features Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson, brought Air Force veteran Shaun Meadows by bringing him on-stage. A member of the 22nd Special Tactics Squadron, Shaun lost his legs in 2008 while serving in Afghanistan. He was hit by an improvised explosive device while on a combat renaissance patrol. He became the first active-duty amputee in Air Force history to successfully perform a skydive last year.

Shaun was presented with Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson’s proceeds from the evening, as well as proceeds from Operation FINALLY HOME. As he was brought on the stage, a Jimi Hendrix styled “Star Spangled Banner” played and he was surprised with the news by his wife, son and local news anchor Jonathan Martin from WSMV. Goodall Homes has agreed to build the home alongside Nashville-based LP Building Products who will provide all the supplies necessary.

The Xtreme Muzik Tour continues this week through September and hits Nevada, Arizona, Utah, California, Oregon and Washington. The first leg of the tour wraps up in British Columbia, Canada.

Xtreme Muzik The Tour, featuring co-headliners Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson has been a hit with audiences from coast to coast, and Big Kenny, John Rich and Gretchen Wilson will donate 100% of their proceeds from their September 2, 2011 date at The Woods Amphitheater at Fontanel to Operation FINALLY HOME, a 501(c)3 organization that honors wounded and disabled veterans and widows of fallen soldiers with new homes.

“This is a wonderful organization I’ve worked with for years. They have a very simple but very important cause,” said Big Kenny, who first approached his touring partners about the idea. “Building a home is noble, but constructing a home tailored to the needs of a specific injury or disability is one of the things Operation FINALLY HOME really understands and has done well time and again.  It’s an honor for us all to have them working with us here in Music City. I’m willing to jump out of a perfectly good plane to raise awareness of the great needs of so many of our returning soldiers!”
