Mustached Man Monday in Movember

Tyler Farr

For the final Monday in Movember, we decided to spotlight a man who reached a milestone in his career most recently…His first ever platinum single! Tyler Farr is a singer/songwriter from a small town in Missouri. Tyler learned about country music from his stepfather, who played guitar for the legendary George Jones.

Once Tyler realized his love for country music, he moved to Nashville to pursue his dream of becoming a musician. Tyler began working at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, a popular bar in Music City. After working at Tootsie’s for several months, Tyler convinced the management to allow him to perform. Tyler started performing four nights a week, along with maintaining his job as a bouncer.

Tyler also found himself becoming friends with Rhett Akins, who saw Tyler’s talent and wanted to work with him. Tyler ultimately worked with some of the best writers in Nashville and was signed to BNA Records. Tyler has written for Colt Ford and opened for Jerrod Niemann and Lee Brice before releasing his debut album, Redneck Crazy. The title track of Redneck Crazy recently was awarded with RIAA Platinum Certification.

Congratulations, Tyler, on your recent successes! Keep this artist’s name in your minds, ladies and gentlemen. Tyler is certainly going to be a huge part of country music moving forward!

Country stars react to George Jones’ passing

george jones

It’s been a tragic few days for country music stars and country fans. The legendary George Jones passed away in a Nashville hospital, and country stars have reacted in shock and sadness over the loss of an icon. See what some of your favorite stars have said about the great George Jones:

Brad Paisley:

“George Jones’ life is an example of so many wonderful things. How someone’s God-given gifts can make this a richer, better place.  How one human being can overcome adversity, addiction, and life threatening obstacles time and time again.  That it is not the stumble or fall that counts, but the willingness to stand again. How a keen sense of humor and a twinkle in a person’s eye can still prevail even after all of life’s hard knocks.  How mistakes, missteps, and bad choices are not the end of the world if a person chooses to turn them into something good. And George’s life is above all the strongest example of how the love of a great woman can get a man through anything. All of this made its way beautifully into every note of the greatest voice country music will ever know.  And one of the greatest friends you could ever have.

We miss you already, George.

Brad”

Dolly Parton:

“My heart is absolutely broken.  George Jones was my all time favorite singer and one of my favorite people in the world.  My heart goes out to Nancy and all his family and friends.”

Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts:

“He was the greatest country vocalist that ever lived! Through the years we have all tried to emulate the passion in his voice, but no one can fill his shoes.”

Merle Haggard:

“The world has lost the greatest country singer of all time. Amen.”

Easton Corbin:

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of one of my all time heroes, George Jones. Georges’ music was real and he was able to touch thousands through his songs. Not only was he a great singer, but he also had the ability to make you relate to every one of his songs, no matter who you are. He and his music will remain timeless in the world of country music. My thoughts and prayers are with his family through this difficult time.”

Blake Shelton (via Twitter):

Just landed in LA. Listened to “The King Is Gone” and “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” over and over again just like always. Can’t accept it. Really REALLY bad news. We’ve lost a country music legend. And I’ve lost a hero and a friend. Goodbye George Jones…

Kelly Clarkson (via Twitter):

Sad to hear about George Jones passing. That man touched a lot of lives with his music. Thanks for setting the bar for the rest of us. #RIPGeorgeJones

George Jones Dead at 81

george-jones

It’s a sad day for country music.

Country legend George Jones passed away this morning, April 26, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 81. The Country Music Hall of Famer and Grand Ole Opry Member was hospitalized on April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure.

Jones was born in Saratoga, Texas on September 12, 1931, and is considered one of the most influential legends in the history of country music. His music spans decades, with “He Stopped Loving Her Today” being arguably one of the greatest country songs of all time.

Jones recently embarked on a farewell tour, title the Grand Tour, to celebrate his career. An all-star farewell concert was planned for November 22 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

Jones is survived by Nancy Jones, his wife of 30 years,  his sister Helen Scroggins, and by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He’s also survived by an enduring legacy and catalog of country classics. We’re certain that no one will fill those shoes.

George Jones Announces Farewell Tour

Country music legend George Jones has announced plans for a final tour across North America in 2013. “The Grand Tour” will take the icon through 60 cities as he plays his classics “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “White Lightning,” “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes,” and “I Don’t Need Your Rocking Chair” among countless others. George has returned to the road after a battle with an upper respiratory illness earlier this year.

He will also be releasing an album  with Dolly Parton writing songs for the record. There is no street date yet on that new album, but it’s one he promises he will record for loving it.

Florida Georgia Line Lace Up Their Boots in Support of the Troops

scaled_e1339447503

Country newcomers Florida Georgia Line are proud to join forces with the Boot Campaign in support of the troops. The duo, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, have pledged their commitment to the cause by putting on their own combat boots to literally “take a walk in a soldier’s shoes.”

For the band, this is a cause that hits close to home. “Anything that we can do to help our soldiers past, present and future and their families, we are thankful to be a part of. This cause really hits close to home; my uncle and cousin both served overseas and my grandfather was awarded two purple hearts during his active duty. We are proud to be a part of The Boot Campaign and thrilled to have them on the road with us for the Country Throwdown Tour. We hope to see all the country fans at the show put their boots on and join us in supporting our veterans as they return home,” says Kelley.

Florida Georgia Line is in good company, as other celebrity supporters of the Boot Campaign include Dolly Parton, The Rock, FX’s Cast of Sons Of Anarchy, Troy Aikman, Brantley Gilbert, Eli Young Band, George Jones and Gary Allan. Supporters of the cause purchase boots, with all proceeds going to military charities, to put on in order to “symbolically walk in the shoes of our military men and women to remember their service and sacrifice.”

Florida Georgia Line is currently speeding up the charts with their debut single “Cruise,” from their new EP It’z Just What We Do. For more information on Florida Georgia Line and tour dates, visit www.FloridaGeorgiaLine.com.

The Country Music Hall of Fame member was admitted into a Nashville-area hospital last week for tests while battling an upper respiratory illness. He is currently resting at home and recovering from his battle with the illness. He noticed the support of his fans and wanted to thank them for their well wishes:

“I can’t thank my friends and fans enough for all their support. Nancy has got me a new team of doctors to help me get through this, and it seems to be working. I look forward to seeing everyone soon.”

George, who was forced to postpone shows on doctor’s orders, will reschedule those affected tour dates as soon as he can. Us here at Keepin’ it Country hope that George recovers and is back on his feet shortly!

EXCLUSIVE: Interview With Tim Culpepper

Untitled 2

Nashville recording artist Tim Culpepper is one heck of a country artist who truly emulates the definition of old-time, honkytonk country. His road to Nashville started with a simple request from his father, country entertainer/musician Forest (Curly) Culpepper, to take his gift to Music City.

There is no doubt that Tim’s family, complete with many accomplished singers and musicians, shaped the singer and songwriter Tim has become. Other influences, including George Strait and Keith Whitley, helped to create and maintain an interest and appreciation for a traditional, raw sound that is evident in his music.

Looking ahead to the release of his debut album, just days away, Tim is enjoying the success of his current single “Ghost,” which has spent twenty weeks on the Music Row chart.

Tim took the time to answer some questions for us via email. He discusses his forthcoming album, what he appreciates about country music and gives readers insight into the down-to-earth musician and man that he truly is.
