Rolling Stone – “Best of 2011″ Lists

Pistol Annies

Rolling Stone editors have published their annual “Best of ” lists, including their favorite albums and singles of 2011. It is always noteworthy and an impressive feat to get recognition from the iconic publication. Check out which country artists made the lists!

Country favorite, Miranda Lambert, has had a year for the books both professionally and personally. She experienced career milestones and great success, as well as married her best friend and the other half of country’s most adored couple, Blake Shelton. She also brought us the current hottest trio in music with the Pistol Annies, which is made up of Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley in addition to Lambert. And now, Lambert and the Annies are getting some acknowledgment from Rolling Stone.

Lambert’s album, Four The Record, is number 31 on the “50 Best Albums” list and the Pistol Annies’ album, Hell on Heels, holds the number 29 spot. Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart” also was chosen as number 26 on the “50 Best Singles” list. What a way to end the year. Congratulations to Lambert, Monroe, and Presley! There surely will be more big things for them in 2012. Be ready!

The other country star to make the Rolling Stone lists is Eric Church. He had an impressive year of his own with his first number one album, Chief, as well as a “Best Country Album” nomination for the upcoming 54th Grammy Awards. Rolling Stone named Chief the 19th “Best Album of 2011″ and chose his song, “Springsteen,”  as number 30 on the “Best Singles” list. Congratulations to Eric! I am sure he will see even more success in 2012 as well.

Billboard Magazine Dubs Miranda Lambert “The Coolest Girl In Country Music”

Miranda Lambert

As you probably know, Miranda Lambert is the cover story for the current issue of Billboard magazine. And they have appropriately dubbed her “The Coolest Girl in Country Music.” Lambert looks stunning on the cover, and the article and interview are a must read. It discusses everything: her career start; her rise to the top of the country charts; her new album, For The Record; her refusal to do her music and career anyway but hers; and her strong and sassy yet also very sweet personality.

I am a big fan of Miranda Lambert. She is a super talented, strong women who does things her way and does not compromise herself. She gets all of my respect.

Here are a few quotes from the article.

Sony Music Nashville chairman/CEO Gary Overton recalled the first conversation he had with Lambert years ago:

“She said, ‘I can tell you this: They’re not going to tell me what music to record. I’m going to do it my way.’ I said, ‘Well, that’s kind of not the way it happens on Music Row,’ and she goes, ‘Well, that’s the way it’s going to happen with me, or I’ll just go back to Texas and make my living. I’m not going to change my music or anything else.'”

Lambert added:

“I was telling everybody that at that point. I probably just didn’t know any better, being that young, and brand-new in town. But I’m glad I made that stance, because people took it seriously – and they still do. I’m still doing music my way, and it’s working.”

Did you get your copy of For The Record yet? My favorites so far are “Oklahoma Sky,” “Better In The Long Run” (a duet with her superstar husband, Blake Shelton), “Over You,” and “Nobody’s Fool.” What are yours?
