VIDEO: Dierks Bentley Rocks Record Store Day

dierks bentley

Dierks Bentley has an affinity for the old-school albums. We’re talking vinyl records. The format is far from the most popular these days, but it’s still big with Bentley.

The country superstar demonstrated his respect for records on Saturday by taking part in Record Store Day. He celebrated the fifth annual event with an in-store performance at Easy Street Records in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood.

Fittingly, the show took place in the store’s vinyl section, where dozens of people packed in between the displays of old-school discs. If they glanced down from the stage the fans found themselves faced with a diverse array of album artwork with artists ranging from Eddy Arnold to Warren Zevon.

Leading up to Record Store Day, Bentley had said that he wishes the country crowd put more value into vinyl.

“Record Store Day is such a great event that has hardly had any attention in country music,” said Bentley. “Some of the coolest exclusive product comes out on this day at indy retailers, and I wanted country fans to be able to get in on the action. I may have a few surprise special guests up my sleeve too. I’m really excited to take over Easy Street for an hour that afternoon…Seattle is such a great music town.”

Eli Young Band Baby News!

Eli Young Band.

Congratulations to Eli Young Band lead singer Mike Eli! According to People magazine, he’s expecting a baby with wife Kacey, who are celebrating their second anniversary next week. The pair found out the good news on New Years Day, and they’re expecting their baby daughter on August 2nd. Mike is taking his new role very seriously, already hitting the baby books hard to find out everything he needs to know:

“She and her mom got me a couple books that I am reading, and it can be a little overwhelming,” he admits. “I recommend reading them for the basics and what to expect during pregnancy, but they can’t teach you to be a good dad and a good partner. That’s up to me to figure out.”

Mike and his band will be heading to Las Vegas this weekend for the 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The group is up for three ACM awards including Vocal Group of the Year. See if they take any of the three home when it airs live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas at 8 pm EST on CBS.

VIDEO: Eli Young Band – “Even If It Breaks Your Heart”

Eli Young Band
Eli Young Band‘s music video for their new single, “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” premiered on CMT last week.
The video delivers the inspiring message to never give up on your dreams. It reminds us that no matter how many times we think we may have failed, we need to keep striving after our goals.
EYB’s drummer Chris Thompson sat down with CMT to discuss the video: “Actually, all four of us commented that we had chills by the end of the video. I think Brian [Lazzaro] had it right from the get-go, and we just had some minor tweaks here and there. It’s a fun video, and it captures the four of our personalities. But more than that, I think that message of hope and optimism really comes through. That hit home with us when we first watched it.”
“Even If It Breaks Your Heart” is also the “Music Video of the Week” on iTunes. Don’t forget to get your free download!

Top 20 Singles Of 2011

Ronnie Dunn.

2011 has been one heck of a year for country music. We’ve seen singles from all different sides of the spectrum: from songs that make you want to get up and dance, to songs that make you want to cry. Country has always been very good at dealing with real-life issues. It’s the story songs that make country music the genre it is. It has a way of moving you, either to get up and party, or to remember what’s really going on in the world.

It was hard to narrow down the highlight songs of the year into one package, but Ted Efron and myself sat down to do just that. There might be some surprises on our list, but these are the songs that defined a genre for 2011. Take a look at our list below and let us know if you agree, disagree, or think we forgot someone we shouldn’t have. Not all of these songs are singles, some are just the best album tracks that should have been singles this year.
