“Don’t You Wanna Stay” was a mega-hit for Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson garnering massive radio success and awards for their collaboration.
Naturally, the song has become a staple in both Clarkson and Aldean’s sets on tour. Since they both obviously cannot be at each other’s shows every night, Aldean typically sings with a hologram “Kelly” and vice versa thanks to the magic of technology.
But Clarkson has changed things up a bit this tour run. She is currently out on the road with Maroon 5 as part of the Honda Civic Tour (the show is amazing FYI), and is doing “Don’t You Wanna Stay” as a stripped-down solo vocal performance.
She posted a live tour video today and had this to share via Twitter:
@kelly_clarkson: One of my favorite parts of the show is getting to sing “Don’t You Wanna Stay” broken down. :)
Is it even a question how great this version is? Clarkson has been established as one of the best voices in music… ever. It really doesn’t matter what she sings. It’s all just THAT good.

The multi-genre star was also just nominated for two Country Music Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year with Vince Gill.
Last night was a pretty big night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. Kelly Clarkson was in town to perform to a sold out crowd for her Stronger Tour, and as a surprise she brought along some of her celebrity pals to sing with her.
Blake Shelton happened to be in town last night to film last night’s live episode of The Voice, so making an appearance at Kelly’s show worked out perfectly. Kelly and Blake have been good friends for a while now, as they are both managed by Starstruck Entertainment in Nashville, TN.
Kelly brought Blake Shelton out on stage to perform with her for “Don’t You Wanna Stay”, the smash hit she sings with Jason Aldean. She introduced Blake with “I LOVE him! He is so freakin’ awesome. I love his music, I love him as a person, I love how he messes with people all the time….He is a phenomenal country singer.” You can tell they have a real genuine friendship just by watching them perform together on stage.
At this point in the show, Kelly had brought out two special guests before Blake, Tamyra Gray (who was on American Idol Season One with Kelly) in which they sang the Whitney Houston song “When You Believe,” and pop singer Michelle Branch, who in addition to having her own pop solo career, was in the country duo “The Wreckers” with Jessica Harp. Back in February of 2008, The Wreckers announced they were splitting up the group to focus on their solo careers.
This isn’t the first time Kelly has sung with Michelle, as she made an appearance at The Wreckers’s show at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, TX back in 2007 to perform “Leave The Pieces” with them. This time her and Michelle performed “Leave The Pieces” again.
Last but certainly not least, as if the audience even thought the show could get any better, Kelly brings out Reba to sing “Because of You” with her, which was the fourth single off of Kelly’s “Breakaway” album in 2005. The song was later released in 2007 as a duet with Reba McEntire and featured on her CD “Reba: Duets.” Kelly wrote the song when she was 16 about her parent’s divorce, which happened when she was only 6.
Kelly just last weekend won two ACM awards with Jason Aldean for “Don’t You Wanna Stay” and in her acceptance speech, she thanked country music for accepting her in from the pop world. Country loves Kelly, and we’d certainly love to see her do a lot more in the country world in the future. What do you think?
Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson took home the ACM Award for ‘Single Record of the Year’ for their number one hit, “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”
The pair took the stage to accept the award along with producer, Michael Knox. Aldean graciously thanked the writers for creating a great song. He continued his speech by adding that he wanted a female vocal on the record and the first person that came to his mind was Clarkson. He then told the crowd, that she took the song to a new place.
Clarkson, looking gorgeous in red, thanked Jason and their managers and then sweetly thanked everyone for welcoming her from the pop world. Country music loves you, Kelly! You are welcomed with open arms.
The pair also picked up ‘Vocal Event of the Year’ prior to the ACM Awards’ live broadcast.
“Don’t You Wanna Stay” appears on Aldean’s album, My Kinda Party, as well as on Clarkson’s deluxe edition of her Stronger album.

Jason Aldean brought his My Kinda Party Tour to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN Friday night, February 24, but this time he brought along a special guest. Throughout the tour, Lauren Alaina, one of Jason’s opening acts, normally returns to the stage to perform “Don’t You Wanna Stay” with him. Tonight, Kelly Clarkson made an appearance and sang with Jason while she was in town between her tour dates.
Clarkson surprised Jason by coming out on the side of the stage, as Lauren usually enters on the back of the stage on an elevator that comes up through the floor. Jason is all ready to welcome Kelly on the back of the stage, when the roar of the crowd gets loud and Jason still doesn’t see Kelly. Instead she took the side stage route, as her heels wouldn’t have worked well with the grates on the ramps of the stage. At the end of the video, you can see her pointing to her shoes before she leaves to give off why she came out on the side.
We have posted a video of the performance below, check it out! This song has been such a smash, we love seeing Kelly and Jason perform it together again and again!
On Sunday, the pair performed their duet on one of music’s biggest nights, the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. There may have been some mic issues, yet with these two, the performance was still fantastic and one of the best of the night. Jason’s mic went completely out at the end, but Kelly being the consummate performer, finished the song out beautifully.
Jason and Kelly were also nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Country Duo/Group/Collab,” but The Civil Wars took home the trophy.

We are returning to our regularly scheduled programming with our “Video Picks of the Week.”
This week’s music video is the Pistol Annie‘s hit first single, “Hell on Heels.” The Annies sure were a surprise this year, but what an awesome surprise they were. “Hell on Heels” is one of my favorite songs of the year and Miranda Lambert, Angaleena Presley, and Ashley Monroe’s voices blend so well together. They are the perfect country trio.
This week’s live performance pick is Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson performing their cross-over mega hit “Don’t You Wanna Stay” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Don’t You Wanna Stay” was definitely one of the biggest and best songs of 2011 as well as one of my favorites. Aldean and Clarkson made great duet partners, and the song earned them a nomination for “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” at the upcoming 54th Grammy Awards.
Taylor Swift is pretty much unstoppable. She had another huge year and wrapped up her widely successful “Speak Now World Tour.” As you probably know, Swift performed a cover song by a hometown artist in most cities along the tour run. When she stopped in Philly, she did a mash-up of Pink’s “Who Knew” and TLC’s “Unpretty.” It was one of my favorites from the whole tour. What was your favorite? Thank-you to Taylor’s fan for sharing the concert videos.
