VIDEO: Marlee Scott Premieres “Train Wreck”

Marlee Scott is rolling out her “Train Wreck.”  Unlike the real-life thing, hers is one from which you won’t want to turn away.

Scott premiered the video for her single “Train Wreck” today online at CMT.com and on cable with CMT Pure.  The video was shot this past December in Nashville.  It features Scott as a makeover expert saving three train wrecks from themselves at a speed dating event.  The video is directed by Roman White, who has previously worked with some of country’s biggest names:  Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood.

Vince Gill, who provided harmonies for the single, does not appear in the video.  But as you will see, the video does not lack anything minus the guitar slinger:

“Train Wreck” is the second single to be released from Scott’s upcoming debut album, which is due out this spring.

VIDEO: Julie Roberts Debuts “Whiskey and You” Video

Julie Roberts.

As promised, Julie Roberts debuted the video for her single “Whiskey and You.”  And, also as promised, the video packs a powerful, emotional punch.

When we spoke with Julie last week about the song (read our interview here), she told us she had always been drawn to it.  She grew up in a home with alcoholism, so she’s seen first-hand what it can do to someone’s life and family.

“That song just got me the first time I heard it,” says Roberts.  “I knew I wanted to record it because I could relate to that – having lived with an alcoholic for 19 years.  I just feel it’s something a lot of people live with and deal with.  Hopefully it’s a song that can help people.”

”Whiskey and You” originally appeared on Tim McGraw’s 2007 Let It Go album, but as you will hear (and now see) Roberts’ version delivers it with a sorrow and an aching that Tim just can’t touch.  This comes not just from her already soulful voice, but from her years of participating in that painful experience.

Thompson Square Debuts Video For “Glass”

thompson_square

Thompson Square has a special Valentine’s Day treat for us all:  The debut of the video for their new single “Glass.”

The beautiful ballad, which made it’s premiere today on CMT,  is the perfect play for today.  That’s not just because it’s coming to us from the loving husband and wife duo of Shawna and Keifer Thompson.  It’s because of the way the song is handled.  Shawna’s soft and delicate delivery are impactful without having to be forceful.  In addition, by going with black and white, the video has a classic, romanticized feel to it.

“Glass” is the latest release for the Stoney Creek Records recording artists.  It follows the chart-topping (and so far career-defining) “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” and the Top 10 hit “I Got You.”  I predicted earlier (and I still stand by it) that this will be T2′s second number one song.  Time will tell on that.  For now, enjoy the video and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Video Picks Of The Week: February 12, 2012

Reba & Kelly

Hey country music friends…

It’s time for our “Video Picks of the Week!”

Music Video

This week’s music video is Lee Ann Womack, “I Hope You Dance.” The song was the lead single from her 2000 album of the same title, and a number one, cross-over mega hit.

One word comes to mind for me with this song… masterpiece. It is one of my favorite songs of all-time and definitely makes my top five. The lyrics and message are amazing, Womack’s voice is beautiful as always, and the video is very sweet.

“I Hope You Dance” is just one of those times in music when everything aligns together and is perfect.

Also a hit on social media, #CMTcrossroads peaked in the #3 spot on Twitter for U.S. trending topics.

Jana Kramer’s “Out” And “In”

jana kramer

Jana Kramer is starting the week with a bit of “out” and ‘in”.  The “out” is her music video for her song “Why Ya Wanna,” which made it’s debut today.  The “in” is that the single is in the Mediabase Top 40 for the first time, appearing today at #40.

CMT exclusively debuted the video for the former One Tree Hill actress.  The network is also backing the Elektra Nashville singer by naming her as the inaugural artist in their revamped Listen Up program, which highlights artists on the verge of breaking out.  What that means for Kramer is a lot of support this month from CMT, both on TV and online.

That’s very good news for Kramer, who set a record with the radio release of “Why Ya Wanna.”  When the song was first released, 55 radio stations added it to their rotations.  That made Kramer the most added debut artist since Country Aircheck began tracking playlist adds back in 2006.  Her cracking into the Mediabase Top 40 shows the song is now starting to pick up steam.  It might be going from steam to smoke to flame with the added attention the video will be bringing her.  Stay tuned!

VIDEO: Behind The Scenes Of Jana Kramer’s “Why Ya Wanna”

Next week fans will be able to actually watch one fo our 2012 Artists To Watch.  On Monday, Jana Kramer’s “Why Ya Wanna” video starts airing on CMT.

The former small-screen actress told us a bit about the video when we spoke with her last month (read the interview here).  She let us know the shoot was really “hot”.  That’s not to say steamy between her and guy in the video, but literally hot.  Kramer said it was 114 degrees the day they shot it.  But as we see in this behind the scenes video, the singer manages to keep her cool:

Kramer made history with the release of “Why Ya Wanna.”  It was added to the playlsits of 55 radio stations, which made her the most added debut artist in history since Country Aircheck began tracking these things back in 2006.  That was a few weeks ago and the song has yet to crack the top 40.  But that could soon change with the release of the video.

VIDEO: Carrie and Steven Share Silliness From The “Crossroads”

Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler take to the stage tomorrow night for CMT’s Crossroads.  It would seem the two singers are having a good time as they get ready for their Super Bowl Weekend special from Indianapolis. The show airs live this Satruday night at 11pm Eastern on CMT.  In case you weren’t aware of it, the pair (along with Steven’s imaginary friend) have a little reminder for us all:

In other Carrie news, the superstar announced yesterday that her new album will be released on May 1st.  The first single from the album, “Good Girl,” hits radio on Februrary 23rd.

Ryan Seacrest Teaming Up With CMT For Show

Ryan Seacrest.

Well here’s a little something I didn’t see coming. CMT announced plans today that they will join forces with Ryan Seacrest Productions for a brand-new reality television series. The working title for the new 8-episode series, which will air in April, is “Melissa And Tye: A New Reality.” Starring in the show will be actress Melissa Rycroft who will be moving to Los Angeles from Texas to pursue her Hollywood dreams.

EVP of Development and Programming Jayson Dismore says:

“America has fallen in love with Melissa Rycroft, but she has been in the homes of CMT viewers since her time on ‘Dallas Cowboys Making the Team.’ We are excited to have her back on CMT as she gives us access to her new role as wife, mother and someone who is now in the glare of the Hollywood spotlight.”

Ryan Seacrest, who will be serving as executive producer on the series, is pretty excited about his new adventure with CMT.

“Melissa has had an interesting life journey – from having her heartbroken to marriage and motherhood – that we believe many people will relate to. I’ve had a chance to work with her, and I think everyone will appreciate her tenacity and spirit as she pursues her Hollywood dream. She’s bound to have some ups and downs, and we’re hoping audiences will want to tag along for the ride.”

The series will follow Melissa and her new husband Tye Strickland as they struggle to make a long-distance relationship work for themselves and their children.
