VIDEO: Brad Paisley & LL Cool J defend Accidental Racist

Country superstar Brad Paisley and his new best friend LL Cool J have no regrets about recording “Accidental Racist.” The track, which appears on Brad’s brand new album “Wheelhouse,” has managed to generate so much controversy the last few days that the pair stopped by Good Morning America to defend their recording.

What people are having issues with is the use of the Confederate Flag in the lyrics, with LL Cool J saying to “forget the iron chains” if you “ignore my gold chains.” The song was written after Brad wore a t-shirt with a Confederate Flag in public, which was meant as a symbol of Lynryd Skynryd fandom, but was taken the wrong way.

The pair are preaching that they are trying to promote love and understanding, not racism. Take a look at their interview with ABC News and let us know what you think – was the song a mistake, or are people taking it the wrong way?

Brad will appear on LL Cool J’s new album.

Accidental Racist: An Incidental Controversy

LL-Cool-J-Brad-Paisley-Accidental-Racist-MP3-Listen

If you have been on the Internet this week, you most certainly have heard the controversy surrounding Brad Paisley and LL Cool J’s new track, “Accidental Racist” (featured on Brad’s new album “Wheelhouse”). “Accidental Racist” portrays a white male (Brad) and a black male (LL Cool J) speaking to one another from the heart, explaining what it is like to be of a particular race and asking the other to understand the stereotypes and misconceptions that go hand-in-hand with people of all races.

A portion of the “Accidental Lyrics” are as follows:

Paisley:

To the man that waited on me at the Starbucks down on Main, I hope you understand
When I put on that t-shirt, the only thing I meant to say is I’m a Skynyrd fan
The red flag on my chest somehow is like the elephant in the corner of the south
And I just walked him right in the room
Just a proud rebel son with an ‘ol can of worms
Lookin’ like I got a lot to learn but from my point of view

I’m just a white man comin’ to you from the southland
Tryin’ to understand what it’s like not to be
I’m proud of where I’m from but not everything we’ve done
And it ain’t like you and me can re-write history
Our generation didn’t start this nation
We’re still pickin’ up the pieces, walkin’ on eggshells, fightin’ over yesterday
And caught between southern pride and southern blame

They called it Reconstruction, fixed the buildings, dried some tears
We’re still siftin’ through the rubble after a hundred-fifty years
I try to put myself in your shoes and that’s a good place to begin
But it ain’t like I can walk a mile in someone else’s skin

‘Cause I’m a white man livin’ in the southland
Just like you I’m more than what you see
I’m proud of where I’m from but not everything we’ve done
And it ain’t like you and me can re-write history
Our generation didn’t start this nation
And we’re still paying for the mistakes
That a bunch of folks made long before we came
And caught between southern pride and southern blame.

Cool J:

Dear Mr.

White Man, I wish you understood
What the world is really like when you’re livin’ in the hood
Just because my pants are saggin’ doesn’t mean I’m up to no good
You should try to get to know me, I really wish you would
Now my chains are gold but I’m still misunderstood
I wasn’t there when Sherman’s March turned the south into firewood
I want you to get paid but be a slave I never could
Feel like a new fangled Django, dodgin’ invisible white hoods
So when I see that white cowboy hat, I’m thinkin’ it’s not all good
I guess we’re both guilty of judgin’ the cover not the book
I’d love to buy you a beer, conversate and clear the air
But I see that red flag and I think you wish I wasn’t here.

What is your take on “Accidental Racist”? Do you think this song successfully addresses the longstanding issue of racism in our country, or do you think the lyrics add more fuel to the proverbial fire? Tell us your position on this highly controversial song!

John Fogerty and Miranda Lambert Collaborate On “Wrote A Song For Everyone”

acm_2010_show_007-x600

Southern rock legend and Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman, John Fogerty, teamed up with several country superstars for his upcoming album, Wrote A Song For Everyone. The record features some of our favorite artists collaborating with Fogerty on his classic hits.

One of his special guests is country’s beloved female, Miranda Lambert. She joined the project after Fogerty slipped her a note at an event and asked Lambert to lend her voice for the title track.

Lambert grew up listening to CCR and was honored to work with Fogerty, whom she calls “rock royalty.” Because of her high regard for him, Lambert was nervous walking into the studio but she says Fogerty is so nice and normal (besides the fact that he is a rock star, of course). She went on to say that “cool is the word for him.”

Lambert dubbs Fogerty and CCR’s music “timeless” spanning and bridging generations. I would definitely have to agree with her!

Check out the video below to see what Miranda had to say about the whole experience and also view behind the scenes with Lambert and Fogerty. You can also hear snippets of the song in the background.

Other country artists included on the star-studded project are Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Zac Brown Band, and Alan Jackson. The album is set to be released on May 28th. You can pre-order your copy on iTunes or Amazon today!

Brad Paisley to release iBook

Brad Paisley.

Country’s own superstar Brad Paisley is turning into quite an author lately. The “This Is Country Music” singer will be releasing an iBook titled “Building a Wheelhouse” on April 9th. The iBook will feature interviews, pictures, videos, and interactive information on the making of his brand new studio album “Wheelhouse” – which will be released on the same day.

Both “Wheelhouse” and “Wheelhouse (Deluxe Edition)” are both available for pre-order right now on iTunes. Brad’s eighth studio album, which is being released on Arista Nashville, features his current single “Beat This Summer” and “Southern Comfort Zone.”  “Beat This Summer,” co-written by Brad, Chris DuBois and Luke Laird, is the second single from the soon-to-be-released Wheelhouse album.  The lead single, “Southern Comfort Zone,” recently became the entertainer’s 21st #1 hit.

Will you be picking up Brad’s interactive book or album on April 9th?
