It’s the eve of the release of “Wasted on Love,” the first single from country piano-man Josh Charles. The song will be released via Downhome Records/ THC: Music/Ingrooves/Fontana, and is Charles’s first single since 2011′s critically-acclaimed “Life Ain’t Fair.” In addition to releasing his single this month, Josh recently went to Nashville, where he recorded with Grammy Award winner, Toby Wright and he’ll be backed by Blake Shelton‘s touring band, Rob Byus, Tracy Broussard, Kevin Post and Beau Tackett.

We discussed his background, who he’d LOVE to duet with, country music in NYC, his oddest job (hint: I’ve fallen and I can’t get up) and more! Plus, what’s it like to open for Blake Shelton? Read on to find out!

Blake Shelton to preview new album on Bob Kingsley Top 40

blake shelton

Oklahoman superstar Blake Shelton is gearing up for the release of his brand new studio album “Based On A True Story,” with a first listen on Bob Kingsley’s Country Top 40 syndicated radio program. The special will air on March 22nd, so check your local radio station for what time and if they carry Bob Kingsley’s Country Top 40 countdown.

Blake’s new album is the follow-up to his highly successful “Red River Blue.” (We’re choosing to ignore his Christmas album “Cheers… Its Christmas” from last year).

“Based On A True Story” will go on-sale four days after the special, on March 26th, 2013. Blake’s album will contain his current lead-off hit single “Sure Be Cool If You Did.” Are you excited for new music from Blake Shelton, or are you worried he’s really going pop on the new record?

Kelly Clarkson takes on Clive Davis

Kelly Clarkson.

Music superstar Kelly Clarkson is standing up for herself in a message posted on her Facebook and Twitter accounts today. Music superpower Clive Davis released a memoir, and which Kelly claims he spreads false information about her and she gives her side of what happened.

Kelly, who has released multiple country singles (“Because Of You” with Reba McEntire, “Don’t You Wanna Stay” with Jason Aldean, “Mr Know It All” country version, and “Don’t Rush” with Vince Gill), is frustrated at what Clive wrote in his book.

Read Kelly’s statement below:

So I just heard Clive Davis is releasing a memoir and spreading false information about me and my music. I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans. It feels like a violation. Growing up is awesome because you learn you don’t have to cower to anyone – even Clive Davis.

First, he says I burst into “hysterical sobbing” in his office when he demanded Since You Been Gone be on my album. Not true at all. His stories and songs are mixed up. I did want more guitars added to the original demo and Clive did not. Max, Luke and I still fought for the bigger sound and we prevailed and I couldn’t be more proud of the life of that song. I resent him dampening that song in any way.

But, yes, I did cry in his office once. I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called “Because Of You.” I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a “sh*tty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.” He continued on about how the song didn’t rhyme and how I should just shut up and sing. This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with.
But I continued to fight for the song and the label relented. And it became a worldwide hit. He didn’t include that in the book.

He also goes on to say My December wasn’t successful because I co-penned the album and it didn’t have “pop hits”. Well, first let me say, I’ve co-penned many of my “pop hits.” Secondly, My December went platinum (It sold 20,000 less than All I Ever Wanted which followed My December.) Hardly a huge failure. Never Again, the ONLY single they released in the US from that record was a Top 10 hit. I am very proud of that and I have my fans to thank. But, again, what’s most interesting about his story is what he leaves out: He doesn’t mention how he stood up in front of his company at a convention and belittled me and my music and completely sabotaged the entire project. It never had a chance to reach it’s full potential. My December was an album I needed to make for myself for many reasons and the fact that I was so completely disregarded and disrespected was so disheartening, there really aren’t words to explain….

Anyway, I love my job. I love my music. I love my fans. I love my label and all of my professional relationships… now. And I am grateful for Clive for teaching me to know the difference.

Cheers to another amazing year! And, as always, thanks for listening!

KC

Great news for Blake Shelton fans this morning! The Oklahoma superstar announced himself on The TODAY Show with Hoda & Kathy Lee details on his brand new studio album! Blake will be releasing “Based On A True Story” on March 26th. The album will feature his current hot single “Sure Be Cool If You Did.”

Blake’s new album will be released just in time for a new season of NBC’s The Voice, which he’ll be returning for again. There’s been a few changes to the Teams on the fourth season: Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo Green have taken a single-season break to work on their careers and will be temporarily replaced for a season by Shakira and Usher. Adam Levine will be back once again to challenge Blake. Do you think Blake can win three seasons in a row? The new season of The Voice kicks off March 25th – the day before his album release.

In case you’re just waiting for more television time from the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year, you can catch Blake’s guest appearance on Reba McEntire‘s new sitcom, “Malibu Country,” on March 1st. Blake plays Blake, Reba’s brother.

See the full track listing, and album cover, for Blake’s new album below. Will you be picking up a copy when it hits shelves on March 26th?

Keepin’ It Country Exclusive: Josh Charles to Release New Single & Record with Blake Shelton’s Band

josh+charles

He may not be a household name just yet, but Josh Charles is aiming to change that with the release of his new single, “Wasted On Love,” which comes out February 26th. The song will be released via Downhome Records/ THC: Music/Ingrooves/Fontana, and is Charles’s first single since 2011′s critically-acclaimed “Life Ain’t Fair.” The single was written by Charles and legendary songwriter Milton L. Brown, (“Every Which Way But Loose”) and recorded in Nashville’s Moose Lodge Studio.

“I can give up Whiskey, and still feel the buzz. Yeah, girl, I’m still wasted, but I’m wasted on love.” Charles sings in the songs undeniably catchy hook. He describes the track as “a feel-good song describing a man’s descent into Hell and back, with things made right by finding love.” Don’t mistake the song as one for mature audiences only. “It must have universal appeal,” smiles Josh. “Because, at concerts, I’ve seen five and six year olds singing along.”

Single news aside, Josh is bound for Nashville this month to continue recording his hotly anticipated new music. Not to name drop or anything, but Josh will be joined in the studio by super producer and Grammy Award winner, Toby Wright (Alice in Chains, Metallica, The Wallflowers, etc). If that’s not exciting news enough, he’ll also be backed by Rob Byus, Tracy Broussard, Kevin Post and Beau Tackett, also known as Blake Shelton‘s touring band.

We’ll have more exciting Josh Charles news coming up in the next few weeks, so stay tuned to Keepin’ It Country for the latest. In the meantime, you can follow Josh on Twitter, Facebook and visit his official website at www.joshcharlesmusic.com.

While you wait for “Wasted on Love,” take a listen to “Life Ain’t Fair.”
