5th Annual “Opry Goes Pink”

Opry Goes Pink

It’s a very special night for a very important cause.

The Grand Ole Opry is joining Women Rock For The Cure for their 5th Annual “Opry Goes Pink” event. Each year, an artist is chosen to flip the switch to turn the Opry’s signature barn backdrop pink. This year, LeAnn Rimes has that honor.

The special night will take place on October 22nd. Joining Rimes to perform that evening are Amy Grant, Pam Tillis, Mandisa, Natalie Grant, and Lorrie Morgan. Activities honoring survivors and in memoriam of those lost will also take place throughout the event.

Five dollars for every ticket sold go to Women Rock For The Cure to benefit breast cancer awareness.

Women certainly do rock and we will rock for a cure!

Vince Gill Reacts To Grammy Nomination

Vince Gill.

Country Music great Vince Gill earned himself a Grammy nomination earlier this week for his new single “Threaten Me With Heaven.” The nominations for the 54th annual GRAMMY awards were announced during a television concert special on CBS. Vince is nominated for Best Country Song, giving him his 41st Grammy nomination to date.

The song serves as a tribute to co-writer Will Owsley, who had taken his life since the song was written with Amy Grant and Dillian O’Brian.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled for my late friend Will,” Gill says. “This would have meant the world to him.”

Gill says the song has a profound impact on him because of Owsley’s death. “In my lifetime, ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain” has been the song that helped a lot of people through their grief. I think this one will in turn hopefully do the same thing. It’s a powerful, powerful song.”

Vince is a 20-time GRAMMY award winner. He’ll be heading out on his  Christmas tour “The Twelve Days Of Christmas” with his wife, Amy Grant, starting December 7th in Baltimore, Maryland.

Vince Gill Releasing First Album in Five Years this Fall

Vince Gill fans have been anxiously awaiting the singer’s next project. While he’s been featured as a guest vocalist and backup singer in movie soundtracks and other artists’ records, it’s been five years since his last studio album. “Guitar Slinger” is the first project recorded completely at Gill’s new home studio. He wrote every song on the album.

The lead-off single, “Threaten Me With Heaven,” was co-written by wife Amy Grant, Dillion O’Brian, and Will Owsley. After recording the track, Gill’s friend Owsley took his own life. Now the song is even more personal to Gill and the co-writers, in memory of their friend and the tragedy surrounding them. Gill compares the song to “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” a song that has helped him deal with the grief during this hard time. He hopes this single will help others in the same way.

“I feel like the emphasis has been on the songs, and the songs have gotten better. They really run the gamut of what they are about, how they feel, how they sound. It’s not an all-traditional record, it’s not an all-contemporary record; it’s all over the map, like I kind of have always been. But it doesn’t feel out of step with anything I’ve done previously.”

Wife Amy Grant, and daughters Jenny, Sarah and Corrina are featured on the album. It’s nine-year-old Corrina’s debut on a song titled “Billy Paul.”

Gill expects the album to be out sometime this fall.
