George Strait & Garth Brooks to Perform Together at the ACMs

In exciting ACM news, The Academy of Country Music and dick clark productions announced that George Strait and Garth Brooks will perform together for the first time ever to pay tribute to Dick Clark. Strait & Brooks are the two most recent recipients of the ACM Artist of the Decade Award. The ACM Artist of the Decade Award will be renamed the ACM Dick Clark Artist of the Decade Award, in honor of the iconic figure and longtime producer of the ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS. The show will air live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 7 at 8PM EST on CBS.

“Dick helped make country music accessible to a larger fan base and his efforts will not be forgotten. Garth and I were so grateful when we each received the ACM Artist of the Decade Award, so it’s only fitting that we’ll be honoring him with this tribute performance at the ACMs,” said George Strait.

Garth added, “I commend the Academy on naming the ACM Artist of the Decade Award after Dick Clark. Although there is no award the entertainment industry has that can match the magnitude of the star Dick Clark was, and still is, it is an honor to get to be a part of the Academy’s tribute to him. There may be others who have contributed as much to the music industry, but there is definitely no one that has contributed more than Dick Clark. He was music’s best friend, and a dear friend to me.”

Previous recipients of the ACM Artist of the Decade Award include Strait in 2009, Brooks in 1998, Alabama in 1988, Loretta Lynn in 1979 and Marty Robbins in 1969. The ACM Dick Clark Artist of the Decade Award is an Academy honor bestowed on a country music artist only once every decade.

The ACM Awards Take Over Fremont Street

Country music is taking over Las Vegas in April, as the ACM’s head to Sin City. While the coveted awards show will take place on April 7th, it’s the days leading up to the awards that will truly be “must-see” events!

Fremont Street is located in the heart of Las Vegas, and is only second in popularity to the infamous Las Vegas Strip. The Fremont Experience is a pedestrian mall downtown, which takes up a five-block radius and is well-known for being home to the world’s largest video screen (a whopping 1,500 feet long!). So, who can you expect to see at the Fremont Street Experience, performing on this monster screen? An incredible line-up consisting of co-headliners Gary Allan and Jake Owen, along with Randy Houser, Chris Janson, Jana Kramer, Kip Moore, Joe Nichols and Sunny Sweeney!

For those of you who are lucky enough to attend this event (taking place on April 5th-6th), we have great news: It’s FREE!

Unfortunately for those of us who will not be in Las Vegas during ACM week, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas; however, we are counting on those of you who will be there to sneak us a little bit of information on this incredible event so we can live vicariously through you!

VIDEO: Dierks Bentley Hosting ACM Honors

Tickets are on-sale now for the 6th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors event on September 24th. The special night will be hosted for the first time by Dierks Bentley at the historic Ryman Auditorum in Nashville, Tennessee. The evening is dedicated to celebrating special honorees and off-camera award winners from the 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards. Tickets are only $37 and are on-sale right now for the public through the Ryman box office or at Ticketmaster outlets. It’s the third time the event will be held at the Ryman.

Artists that will perform include Dierks, Ashley Monroe, Kellie Pickler, Luke Bryan, and Dailey & Vincent. Those being honored include Bobby Braddock, Kenny Chesney, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Alan Jackson, Gayle Holcomb, Billy Sherrill, Ricky Skaggs and Dwight Yoakam.

ACM Pledges $2.5 Million to Hall of Fame Expansion

The Academy of Country Music (ACM) promised to donate $2.5 million towards the Country Music Hall of Fame And Museum’s massive expansion project which will bring the museum from 140,000 square feet to more than 350,000 square feet. The donation is part of the “Working On A Building: Country Music Lives Here” project. As part of the expansion, the Country Music Hall of Fame And Museum announced an ACM Contemporary Gallery, which will feature modern events, developments, and culture in today’s country music.

“It is the Academy’ss honor to help ensure that the history of country music can be told for generations to come,” ACM CEO Bob Romeo. “We are able to make this kind of contribution only because of the incredible country music artists who give of their time for Academy charitable endeavors; we can’t thank them enough for the impact they have on our industry.”

The Hall of Fame is very moved by the generosity of the ACMs, explains Museum Director Kyle Young:

“We are deeply indebted to the ACM for this wonderful gift, which will help us continue to fulfill our educational mission and serve our worldwide audience. The genre we chronicle is a living thing, constantly evolving; country music history is being made every day. Great museums must remain relevant, and the ACM Contemporary Gallery will allow us to not only expand our examination and celebration of modern stars, important background players and new developments in the genre, but also to spotlight new artists, trends and issues as they break.”

Garth, Reba, and Taylor Among Honorees at ACM Honors in Nashville September 19th

The 5th Annual ACM Honors will take place on September 19th at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Downtown Nashville. The night celebrates the non-televised special honorees and winners from this year’s ACM Awards, held in Las Vegas in April, and includes special tribute performances and award presentations. For the second year, a limited amount of tickets will be made available to fans via Ticketmaster beginning in August. Host, presenters, and performers will be announced later in the summer.
