With ABC upfronts in full-swing today and country music stars like Reba & Jennifer Nettles invading the network, ABC has announced a new fall drama centered around the goings-on of a country music legend and an up-and-coming crossover artist.
Connie Britton (“Friday Night Lights”) plays Rayna James, an accomplished country legend whose popularity is on the decline, while Hayden Panettiere (“Heroes”) plays Juliette Barnes, a new artist determined to take over the country charts. In an attempt to benefit both careers, Rayna’s record label pairs her with Juliette for a co-headlining tour, and from there, the drama ensues. Will Juliette be able to steal Rayna’s spotlight?
Look for Rayna’s wealthy, powerful and estranged father to add to the drama by helping Rayna’s husband, Teddy, seek a chance at the mayorship of Nashville against his wife’s wishes.
Produced by Callie Khouri (writer of “Thelma & Louise”), R.J. Cutler (“The September Issue”) & Steve Buchanan, look for “Nashville” to take viewers inside the world of country music and all of its entanglements, ranging from touring and romance to politics and familial drama.
Check out the trailer below and be sure to let us know what you think! Will you be tuning in to “Nashville”?

ABC is putting together one heck of a sound track for their newest television series, “GCB.” The show follows the story of Texan Queen Bee Amanda Vaughn, (played by Leslie Bibb), who returns home after 20 years, but there’s a little payback for the original mean girl of the town. Will she be welcomed back with open arms, or will her town preach her the golden rule while stabbing her in the back? Everything’s always bigger in Texas… including the drama! The show is based off of the book “Good Christian Bitches” by Kim Gaitlin.
While the sound track for the show isn’t available until May 8th on Elektra Nashville, fans will get the chance to preview a new song each week on iTunes. Star Kristin Chenoweth (who plays Carlene Cockburn) contributes three tracks to the compilation album, including a duet with co-star Miriam Shor on the classic “This Little Light Of Mine”. Other artists featured on the super-star CD include John Rich of Big & Rich, the JaneDear Girls, Emily West, Dean Alexander, Damien Horne, Joanna Cotten, Don Derby, Jaime Hanna, and Bum Steers.
We’ve teamed up with ABC to give our readers the chance to purchase the tracks from the sound track each week with a $15 iTunes gift certificate. Two readers will receive the gift card courtesy of ABC. To enter, follow the instructions on the form below. The contest is open immediately until midnight EST on Wednesday, March 14th. The winners will be contacted by e-mail within 24 hours of the contest closing, then have 24 hours to respond or new winners will be chosen. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that ABC has picked up the pilot for Reba McEntire‘s new sitcom, Malibu Country. McEntire will star in the comedy as a mom of three children who divorces her cheating husband and moves with her kids and mother from Nashville to Malibu. In her new town, she will try to revive her singing career and keep her family from being consumed by the glitz and glam of their surroundings.
The project reunites the country superstar with Kevin Abbott. Abbott was an executive producer of her hit and fan-beloved primetime series Reba, and has written the pilot for Malibu Country.
