Get Blown Away By Carrie’s 2012!

carrie

When we caught wind of just how incredible Carrie Underwood‘s 2012 was, we were simply blown away. Not only were we amazed by the laundry list of successful moments Carrie experienced, but we were exhausted just thinking about everything Carrie accomplished in only 366 days (Leap Year, y’all … are we observant, or what?)! The following is what Carrie’s year consisted of:

Carrie Underwood Named Top Female Country Touring Artist of 2012

It’s no coincidence that Carrie Underwood‘s tour was titled the “Blown Away Tour,” as she blew away audiences and critics alike across the United States, the UK and Australia in 2012. The first leg of the 62 city tour wrapped on December 22, and according to Pollstar‘s Year-End chart, Underwood was the top female touring artist of the year.

Didn’t see Carrie in 2012? The tour will re-launch a second leg on February 13, 2012, sponsored by vitaminwater® and supported by Hunter Hayes. Additionally, $1 from each ticket sale will go to Red Cross Disaster to relief to provide shelter, food and emotional support for those in need.

Carrie Underwood Is Heading to the Convent

How do you solve a problem like Maria? “The Sound of Music” fans everywhere have been long awaiting the answer to that question, first posed by Rogers and Hammerstein in their 1959 stage musical, adapted to film in 1965. Well country fans, Carrie Underwood may finally help answer that age old question, as Carrie will be portraying Austrian aspiring nun turned nanny, otherwise known as Fraulein Maria, in a live re-make of the classic movie. The live broadcast will air during the 2013 holiday season on NBC. Robert Greenblatt, the Chairman of NBC Entertainment, stated “Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp. She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.”

Congratulations to Carrie for signing on to such an exciting project! We have no doubt that Carrie will do the role of Maria Von Trapp great justice, as Julie Andrews did in the original screenplay.

This particular Keepin’ It Country writer could not be more excited about this adaptation of “The Sound of Music,” as the movie is, admittedly, one of MY absolute favorite things (along with raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, of course). Do we have any other diehard “The Sound of Music” fans out there who are already x’ing the days off their calendars for next year’s holiday season, counting down the days until this live broadcast will air? Let us know!

Carrie Underwood donates proceeds from Iowa concert

Say what you will about country music superstar Carrie Underwood, but she always puts her fans first. After believing that she didn’t give her fans at a recent Iowa concert the 100% effort they deserved, she announced that she was going to donate all proceeds from the concert back to the local community. Carrie was forced to cut out a few fan favorite songs from her show that night due to losing her voice after her Chicago concert – but she still performed for over 90 minutes!

See what Carrie had to say about giving back, and why she felt so guilty for her performance, in her own words below:

Kelly Clarkson Announces Engagement to Brandon Blackstock

Kelly Clarkson finally got her big moment like this on Friday, December 14th, accepting a proposal (and huge rock) from boyfriend/talent manager/country-music-prince, Brandon Blackstock. The overjoyed pop-country star took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon, revealing the big news in a jubilant tweet. She tweeted, “I’M ENGAGED!!!!! I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever :)”

Her excitement continued a little bit later, when she revealed a photo of the huge new piece of bling taking up major real estate on her left hand. She wrote, “Everyone has been asking about my engagement ring, so here it is :) It’s a yellow canary diamond with diamonds around it and Brandon designed it with Johnathon Arndt!”

For those keeping score and playing six degrees of Kelly Clarkson, her ring was designed by the same guy who made Carrie Underwood‘s stunner, while her new fiance manages Blake Shelton, while being the stepson of Reba. Talk about some major country connections!

Congrats to the happy couple. We can’t wait to see wedding pics!

This Sunday marks the 40th Anniversary of the American Music Awards, and when we think of decades past, we think of one thing — crazy fashion choices! So, in anticipation of this year’s big show, we decided to do a little fashion policing of our own (sorry Joan), because though the awards are really about the music, the thing that seems to get the most lasting buzz is the red carpet do’s and don’t's!  Below are our staff’s picks for country music’s fashionistas and fashion faux pas in AMA history!

Last Friday, Atlantic City and all the victims of the recent hurricane superstorm Sandy devastation got some relief from country superstar Carrie Underwood. According to the Press of Atlantic City, Carrie told the crowd on Friday night that she wouldn’t feel right making a profit off a show in an area of such devastation, and that she would be donating all profits from the show to those in need locally.  In Atlantic City that night, it wasn’t just about Carrie putting on a show-stopping performance for the crowd, it was also about giving back. “We’re so glad to be here, and even more glad to be here this evening,” Carrie informed the crowd. “You know, after something like this, you wonder whether the show should go on. We thought, this building was still here, so it must be here for a reason.”

After the show, Carrie tweeted this message to her Atlantic City fans:

@carrieunderwood: Thank you beautiful Atlantic City! You all made my year! You have been through so much and still rocked the house! I leave in awe! Thanks!

Carrie has also been donating $1 from each ticket sale on the Blown Away Tour to the Red Cross since September.

Carrie’s next Blown Away tour stop is tonight at the Penn State Bryce Jordan Center in State College, PA.
