Carrie Underwood Receives the Humanitarian Award at CRS

crbcarrie

In her song “Change,” Carrie Underwood sings, “The smallest thing can make all the difference.” These powerful lyrics demonstrate how small and simple actions can make a great impact on the world, something that Underwood has strived to do throughout her career.

On February 19 at the opening ceremony of Country Radio Seminar (CRS), Underwood was honored for her generosity with the Country Radio Broadcasters Artist Humanitarian Award.

Since her American Idol win in 2005, Underwood has given back to those in need in a variety of ways. She established the CATS (Checotah Animal, Town, and School) Foundation in her hometown of Checotah, OK to give back to local animal shelters, schools, and the town. She also donated $1 from every ticket sold on her Blown Away Tour to the American Red Cross – a donation that totaled over $1 million. Most recently, Underwood spent a number of days in January volunteering at a local animal shelter, combining her passion for animals with her love of giving back.

The Band Perry Honors Fallen Family

Just when you thought you couldn’t love The Band Perry any more … This happens. The superstar sibling trio recently stepped up to help with funeral expenses to bury a mother and eight children who were tragically killed in a house fire in Greenville, Kentucky. Only two family members — the father, Chad J. Watson, and an 11-year-old girl — survived the fire Thursday morning.

The Perry siblings’ representatives contacted the Watson family and offered to take care of all the expenses and also offered to pay hotel expenses for family members staying near the medical center where the two surviving Watsons are being treated. A family friend stated, “I don’t know why The Band Perry reached out to the family other than they are just very gracious. The family doesn’t have any personal connection to the band before now.”

Lauren Alaina Brings Christmas Cheer to Children’s Hospital

Lauren-alaina-musicians-on-call

You know what they say in ELF, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” And that’s exactly what Lauren Alaina did this holiday season, making a surprise visit to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt through one of Musicians On Call’s (MOC) weekly Bedside Performance Programs.

Alaina delighted the patients and staff, spending time with them and singing holiday carols that included “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Jingle Bells,” “Santa Clause is Coming to Town,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Silent Night.”

“Everyone deserves a smile for the holidays, and smiling isn’t exactly the first word that comes to mind when you think of a hospital, but I went there with that goal to make that happen for everyone I met,” shares Alaina. “It wasn’t as easy in some rooms as it was in others, but at the end of the day, I made it happen somehow. I can’t imagine spending my holidays in the hospital. I honestly don’t know if I’d feel like smiling either, but I know it would mean a lot to me to have someone visit. I hope I made a difference.”

Kelly Clarkson Helps Raise A Record-Breaking $106,000 for Musicians On Call Nashville

Musicians On Call Nashville - Kelly Clarkson

On November 14th, Musicians On Call (MOC) Nashville held their 6th Anniversary Celebration presented by Citi with the help of multi-genre superstar Kelly Clarkson. The 3-time Grammy Award winner played an intimate show to a sold-out crowd at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Nashville.

Clarkson helped raise over an impressive $106,000, marking the night as the highest-earning event ever for MOC Nashville.

“When I first learned about MOC, it appealed to me for so many reasons,” shares Clarkson. “I love how it creates opportunities for musicians to play for kids and bring music to the families who are spending their time, especially during holidays, in the hospitals away from the comfort of their homes.”

As always, Clarkson shined and wowed the crowd with her talent and personality as she performed some of her biggest hits as well as a few songs from her new Christmas album, Wrapped In Red. True to her generous spirit, Clarkson also donated her 2012 American Music Awards performance dress to Hard Rock Cafe for display in its world-famous memorabilia collection in exchange for a $9,000 contribution to MOC Nashville.

MOC expanded to Nashville in April 2007, and has continued to grow ever since. The branch now has 12 weekly programs within 7 area healthcare facilities, and its volunteers have played for more than 70,000 patients, family, and staff.

“This is by far the biggest event to date for Musicians On Call Nashville,” said Dana Sones, MOC Nashville’s Program Director. “We are beyond grateful to Kelly Clarkson for donating her time and talent to help celebrate our sixth anniversary. This event not only celebrates how far we’ve come in six short years, but allows us to expand our programs to bring music to even more individuals in the years to come.”

The night also included a VIP cocktail reception and auction bidding, including autographed items from Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, and Tim McGraw.

All of the proceeds from the 6th Anniversary Celebration directly benefit MOC Nashville and its mission to bring music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities.

Needless to say, a night very well spent… a wonderful event by an amazing organization! Thank-you to MOC and Kelly Clarkson for bringing the gift of music to those who need it most.
