New Artist Spotlight: JJ Lawhorn

JJ Lawhorn.

What would you have done to see the early days of Eric Church, Justin Moore, or even Gary Allan‘s careers? Country music fans who played their cards right were able to see one of the new underrated talents on the Blake Shelton Cruise last week with JJ Lawhorn. The 19-year old signed to Average Joe’s Entertainment in 2011 and he’s your good ol’ Southern boy – who isn’t afraid to make sure everyone knows it, too. The singer, who was raised on a family farm, stole the spotlight in one of the many atrium shows on the NCL Pearl last week.

JJ might not be a name that country fans are familiar with yet, but they soon will be. He’s hitting the road with Colt Ford on the “Answer To No One Tour,” and with his gritty songwriting style and rocking vocals he’ll soon be taking over radio. Fans who are looking for someone along the lines of Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, or even Eric Church should keep their eyes peeled to this newcomer.

We had the chance to get to know JJ during the Blake Shelton Cruise, and as the week went on, word about his performance had spread to the passengers. His final show was a packed one- with two levels of the atrium watching the young singer with the rock-styled vocals. His influences on his writing are obvious: he calls Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings his influences in his official bio. JJ is a rebel, one of the new branches of Nashville that’s finally getting the spotlight thanks to the success of Brantley, Eric, and Gary.

Trace Adkins Returns to The Apprentice

Trace Adkins. photo credit: Showdog-Universal Music.

“Proud To Be Here” singer Trace Adkins has returned to NBC’s The Apprentice in the first-ever all-star season. The Showdog-Universal artist is one of several fan favorites brought back for a return to the series hosted by Donald Trump. Each celebrity will compete against each other to earn money for their favorite charities. Trace has chosen American Red Cross for his charity. He’s the only country artist on this season, however, former winner John Rich will appear as an advisor at some point in the season.

Trace previously competed in the first season of The Celebrity Apprentice. During his set last week on the Blake Shelton Cruise, he admited that because of his appearance on this new season his new album had to be pushed back to next year. His new album will feature his current anthemic single “Tough People Do”.

“All-Star Celebrity Apprentice” is produced by Mark Burnett in association with Trump Productions. Mark Burnett, Donald Trump, Page Feldman, and Eric Van Wagenen are executive producers. Sadoux Kim, Johnny Petillo, and Michael Dietz are co-executive producers.

The All-Star Celebrity Apprentice airs Sundays at 8 pm EST on NBC.

What To Pack For The Blake Shelton Cruise

blake shelton

While our very own Jessica Crans is trying to figure out what to pack today before we leave for Miami tomorrow for the Blake Shelton Cruise Sunday, as an experienced cruiser I thought it was appropriate to put together a little piece on what fans should bring and pack for the cruise. While you’re pacing around your room trying to figure out what to bring and not to bring, and trying to double check your checklist, make sure you read this to make sure you really are just bringing what you need – then you can bring home more than what you came with.

Take a second to take a breath and watch Blake Shelton’s latest music video and relax for a minute before reading the rest.

You’re okay now? Good. Lets start off talking about clothing. We’ll be on the Cruise for seven days, (eight days if you’re coming down a day early to Miami like we are), so make sure you have six casual outfits. If you’re like most people and plan on wearing the same pair of pants, or shorts, for a few days then just pack multiple shirts – but remember shorts are NOT allowed in the dining room. What exactly is a cruise casual? Jeans, polo shirts, khakis, t-shirts, tops, and cute dresses for the ladies. Of course, yes, wear your cowboy boots and show your country pride! Comfortable shoes are a must for the cruise, especially when you’re at port. You do a lot of walking and don’t realize it until you’re finally laying down in your bed at night.

It gets quite windy and cool at night on the ship, so please remember to pack a light jacket or something a little warmer to wear at night if you’re going to be walking on the outdoor decks. That’s one thing a lot of people don’t realize – yes, it will be warm during the day, but at night it gets pretty chilly. Not Canada cold, but it’s pretty windy in the middle of the ocean. So make sure you have something to wear at night. During the day make sure to have something light to wear – shorts, a dress, and most importantly, your bathing suit.
