EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Krystal Keith

Krystal Keith.

It’s been a pretty big last few weeks for Krystal Keith. The Show Dog Universal artist released her self-titled EP, and debut music video “Daddy Dance With Me.” We had the chance to speak to Krystal earlier this month about the release of her EP, music video, and the best advice she’s ever gotten for the industry, her upcoming full-length album “Whiskey & Lace,” surprising her dad, Toby Keith, at her wedding, crashing the stage as a child at her dad’s show, why she thinks Miranda Lambert is so bad-ass, and much more.

Make sure to pick up your copy of her self-titled EP, which is available now on iTunes or other digital music retailers, and get to know Krystal in our exclusive interview below:

Toby Keith to receive Songwriter Icon Award

Toby Keith.

Congratulations to Show Dog Universal’s Toby Keith! The country music icon will be receiving a very special award from The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) and will be named the 2013 “Songwriter Of The Year.” He’ll be given the award in New York City on Wednesday, June 12th.

The NMPA’s Songwriter of the Year Award recognizes songwriters for their accomplishments throughout their career, and for achieving goals that match with NMPA’s mission. Toby has been spending time overseas performing for USO troops, and he is also being recognized for his Toby Keith Foundation charity.

NMPA President & CEO David Israelite had this to say about Toby:

“The NMPA is pleased to recognize Toby keith and U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch for their contributions to songwriting, music publishing and creator’s rights. Toby Keith’s talent as a singer/songwriter is remarkable, but his dedication to fans, his work with the USO, and his commitment to music and songwriting as a craft has greatly influenced the industry.”

We want to send our congratulations to Toby on this cool honor! What’s your favorite Toby moment?

Ali Dee releases single to country radio

Ali Dee.

Texas singer/songwriter, Ali Dee, releases her brand new single “It Ain’t” from a forthcoming soon-to-be titled album. “It Ain’t,” written by hit songwriters Ryan Tyndell (Eric Church’s “Springsteen”) and Pat McLaughlin (Gary Allan’s “Songs About Rain”), comes on the heels of her popular singles “Just A Diamond” and “Sweet Southern Song” from her debut EP Sweet Southern EP which cracked the Top 15 on the iTunes Country Chart.

It’s pretty exciting for Ali, who said:

“I can’t wait for my fans to hear the new tune, I think it sums me up quite well, a whole lotta country, a little bit rock and roll, and a lot of sass! It’s also pretty great company to be in as far as artists that Ryan [Tyndell] and Pat [McLaughlin] have written for – Eric Church and Gary Allan – two of the hottest artists out there right now!”

The proud and strong Texas artist just recently took her high energy, sassy rockin country live show overseas where she and her band entertained for the U.S. soldiers in Germany, United Kingdom and Kosovo. The rising “Red Dirt” circuit artist is continuing to tour and record for her upcoming album.

Ali Dee’s upcoming tour dates include Toby Keith’s Bar/Dallas, TX (May 10); Grapevine Main Street Days/Grapevine, TX (May 18); KNUE 101.5 Coaches & Cowboys/Tyler, TX (May 22); 11st Cowboy Bar w/ Jake Hooker (Bandera, TX); Whiskey and Rye/Fort Worth, TX (May 28) and Mt. Pleasant Rodeo/Mt. Pleasant, TX (May 31).

DVR Alert: Gretchen Wilson to co-host The View

Gretchen Wilson.

Three weeks after kicking off the release of her critically-acclaimed Right On Time album with a performance on “The Today Show,” Gretchen Wilson heads back to New York to guest co-host “The View” on Thursday, April 25, 2013. She will join Whoopie Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters, as longtime co-host Joy Behar transitions out of the show.

On joining the panel for the day, Gretchen said:

“I’m not sure if they knew what they were getting themselves into, when they booked me for the show. This will be completely different from what I do every day, but I’m really looking forward to hanging out with these strong women and maybe even stirring things up!”

Gretchen’s first album in three years, the 13-cut Right On Time, hit stores nationwide on Tuesday, April 2. Associated Press said of the new music, “…Wilson rocks as hard as she desires while choosing songs that represent her lifestyle and point of view – just as she always has…it continues the fiercely autobiographical stance that distances Wilson from most modern country artists in all the right ways.”

Following the taping, Gretchen will head to Foxborough, MA for a Friday performance at Toby Keith‘s I Love This Bar & Grill. For Gretchen Wilson news, tour dates, merchandise and her exclusive Club 27, visit GretchenWilson.com or facebook.com/GretchenWilson.

It’s the big week for Show Dog Universal’s newcomer Krystal Keith, who finally released her four-song debut EP, as well as a music video that’s close to her heart. “Daddy Dance With Me,” a special song that serves as her lead single, is dedicated to her father Toby Keith.

Krystal explains why the song is so special:

“I wanted a song that honored him and was something special on my wedding day. So I wrote and recorded it behind his back. The idea was to have a song that no bride and father had ever danced to before; it was my gift to him.”

The song became so personal to country fans, that her label pushed-up the EP’s release to this week. Check out the official music video below and let us know what you think – we’ll be talking to Krystal shortly.

She’ll be releasing a full-length album “Whiskey & Lace” later this year.

Krystal Keith’s EP to be rushed out

Krystal Keith. photo: Show Dog Universal

The release of Krystal Keith‘s full length country music debut album Whiskey & Lace is still a few months away, but her record label is readying the release of an EP as the song “Daddy Dance With Me” builds a buzz.

Best known for performing a duet on national television with her father, Toby Keith, Krystal has focused a lifetime immersed in music on the upcoming release of her debut album. Prior to that release, however, the self-titled EP is being released by Show Dog-Universal April 16. The move was pushed by reaction to the track “Daddy Dance With Me,” which was an unexpected addition to the project.

“It was a complete surprise,” Krystal says of the song she wrote with Mica Roberts and Sonya Rutledge for her own wedding. “I wanted a song that honored my dad and was something special on my wedding day. So I wrote and recorded it behind his back. The idea was to have a song that no bride and father had ever danced to before; it was my gift to him.”

Needless to say, the accomplished singer and songwriter was stunned.

“He actually talked all the way through the dance,” Krystal recalls. “I think he was kind of in shock that I pulled one over on him. When I started telling him the lyrics, he said, ‘I’ve never heard a wedding song from the daughter’s perspective.’”

Pushed to include the song on her album, Krystal found others’ reactions were similar to her father’s. “I was just so excited to get it out there so other brides and dads could dance to it, too,” she explains. Encouraged by the early response, the label – co-owned by her father – advanced an EP release to make the song available for Father’s Day and summer weddings. A video will also be released on April 16.

Krystal Keith EP tracks:
