Yesterday, we had the chance to speak with Stephen Barker Liles of country music duo Love and Theft. The duo released their brand new self-titled album earlier this month to rave reviews, and just scored their first-ever number one single with the lead-off “Angel Eyes.” Stephen, and his band mate, Eric Gunderson, will be hitting the road this fall with Jake Owen and Florida-Georgia Line on the 11th annual CMT on Tour. In our exclusive interview with Stephen, we discuss how excited they are for that tour, what special message he has for Florida-Georgia Line, on if Eric survived a number one single, tattoos, why he needs to check Eric’s pockets, and he shares information on the duo’s brand new single.
Love and Theft’s “Angel Eyes” is also a gold certified single with the RIAA for selling more than 500,000 digital copies since its release. The duo are hotter than ever and just finished touring with Brad Paisley. Get to know Love and Theft and see why they have hard time getting into Canada with our exclusive interview below:

“This record represents the way we sound live,” says Stephen. Eric adds, “You get the warmth and the emotion of the players vibing together in the room. We feel like we have made the record we’ve always wanted to make and we can’t wait to find out what people think about it.”
“Angel Eyes” is Love and Theft’s lead single from their forthcoming record. The song, co-written by Jeff Coplan, Eric Paslay and Eric Gunderson, jumped into the Top 10 last week on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and Country Aircheck and is climbing the charts. The track has sold over 350K digital downloads and the music video for “Angel Eyes” has received over 1.2 million views on VEVO.com.
Love and Theft are out on the road this summer with Brad Paisley’s Virtual Reality World Tour. “We’re playing on the ‘Virtual Opry’ stage,” Eric says, “which is a pretty real depiction of what the Grand Ole Opry stage looks like in Nashville. It’s been great fun.”
Stephen adds, “We’ve learned a lot from the artists we’ve opened for over the last few years like Brad, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, and Taylor Swift. It’s been a really cool experience. Hopefully, one day we’ll be able to show other artists the same generosity that’s been shown to us.”
Love and Theft first came to prominence with their breakout single, “Runaway”. That song featured the trio showcasing their perfect harmony as well as any established group in country music, and hit Top 10 on the US country music charts. It also earned them a spot as the opening act for the second half of Tim McGraw’s “Southern Voice” tour, alongside a little group called Lady Antebellum.
Their debut album, World Wide Open, also featured the single “Dancing In Circles”.
Almost two years after that major tour, and now reborn as a duo, L&T are back with a new single, “Angel Eyes”. Although the sound is a bit less powerful, down the voice of co-lead vocalist Brian Bandas, the signature harmony remains the same.
Academy of Country Music nominated duo Love and Theft have announced some big news. The pair will be releasing their debut RCA Nashville album on June 5th. The self-titled album is a big step for Eric Gunderson and Stephen Barker Liles, who were formerly a trio before signing with RCA Nashville. While they are proud of their first record, which spawned a top 10 hit in “Runaway,” they feel as if this time around they were more able to be themselves and sing what they wanted to sing. They see themselves as a band that writes, records and performs honest country music.
They worked with producer Josh Leo on their new album, who had nothing but good things to say about the duo:
“Love and Theft is a true duo in every sense of the word,” says Leo. “They seamlessly trade lead vocals during the songs and sometimes, I’m not even 100% sure who is singing the lead. They are that good.”
The lead single from their upcoming album is “Angel Eyes,” which is currently sitting at number 31 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart and on Country Aircheck. The pair will also kick off the ACM week this weekend with a free performance on Fremont Street on Friday, March 30th at 7 pm PST.
As we reported this weekend, RCA Nashville’s duo Love And Theft released their new single “Angel Eyes” to country radio this week. The group was originally going to send out “She’s Amazing” but thanks to fan demand, they changed their minds and sent out this sweet tune instead.

RCA Nashville’s duo Love And Theft were originally going to release “She’s Amazing” as their debut single from their album, but looks like radio and fan demand made them change their mind. The duo announced on their Facebook page last night that they will now send out “Angel Eyes” to country radio. The single shows off the duo’s harmonies in a catchy little tune.
Love And Theft are now a duo since Brian Bandas left the group last year. Check out a live performance of their new single thanks to a fan in Arizona:
The once trio, now duo, Love and Theft are back in action with a brand new single, “She’s Amazing.” The slow jam tune will be a hit with fans who have come to expect gorgeous vocals and killer hooks from the group. Plus, who doesn’t love hearing two cuties talk about how great their girls are?! It’s no wonder Taylor Swift fell for a half of this super duo.
