Reba’s Malibu Country cancelled

Reba McEntire.

Sad news this weekend for Reba McEntire and “Malibu Country” fans. ABC has announced that they will not air a second season of the comedy, and has cancelled what was once named their highest-rated freshman comedy series of 2012. The series aired 18 episodes on its one and only season on ABC. The show followed the story of Reba’s character, a country singer, who had uprooted her family following her divorce from Nashville to Malibu, California. She was trying to keep her career going while raising two kids.

“Malibu Country” was Reba’s return to television after her show “Reba” had run from 2001 to 2007. “Reba” still gets airtime today on multiple stations, including CMT Canada. The show had guest appearances from stars like Blake Shelton, Laura Bell Bundy, and more. Martina McBride and Kelly Clarkson had both previously expressed their interest in wanting to guest star on the sitcom as well.

ABC will be renewing Nashville, which has become a mega-hit for the station, so country music won’t be completely gone.

Are you sad to see the loss of “Malibu Country”? Did you get the chance to watch it while it was on-air?

Off You Should Go … to iTunes

Off I Go Cover

You know when you hear a song and you just know it has “it”? That song that you can’t wait to hear on the radio while you are driving with the windows down so other cars can hear it? The song you sing at the top of your lungs? Well, remember that Cherie Oakley single, “Off I Go,” we teased last week? Well, it is now available on iTunes, and it is just that kind of song!

“Off I Go” has a Laura Bell Bundy “Shakin’” fun beat with some serious Miranda Lambert attitude. Add these things together with Cherie’s unparalleled vocals, and it certainly has all the components to be a huge hit!

While I would love to stay here and go on and on about how fantastic this new single is, I have one thing to say — “hell no, off I go!” I have a song to listen to on repeat!

What are you waiting for? Head over to iTunes and download “Off I Go”! Let us know what you think of Cherie’s song by leaving us a comment here or contacting us on Twitter @keepinitblog.

REVIEW: Nashville – Sometimes Good Intentions Don’t Come Across So Well

nashville-abc_0

This seemed to be the theme of the second episode of the show that has created quite a buzz, ABC’s Nashville. The second episode began with Hayden Panettiere‘s character, Juliette Barnes, taking over the streets of Nashville, literally, as she filmed a music video that has Laura Bell Bundy “Giddy On Up” style choreography, mixed with the naughtiness of Christina Aguilera back in her “Dirrty” days. And, of course, stuck in the traffic caused by Juliette is Rayna Jaymes, former country starlet who is trying to breathe new life back into a career that her record label believes is dwindling. Naturally, seeing the young vixen create such a stir is a point of contention for Rayna, as she still tries to work through the abominable idea her record label suggested — that she open for a songstress that, age-wise, she could have given birth to herself.

Little Big Town’s Kimberly to Start Cooking Show

Kimberly Schlapman on GAC.

Little Big Town‘s “Tornado” might just have been released last week, but one member of the group is about to get a whole lot more busy. Kimberly Schlapman will debut a brand new cooking show on Great American Country (GAC) on September 22nd. It’s a childhood dream come true for the singer, who isn’t a professional chef but loves working in the kitchen. The first episode of “Kimberly’s Simply Southern” will air September 22nd at 1 pm EST on GAC.

Kimberly shares:

“I’m not a professional chef but when I was a kid, I would stand at the counter and pretend I was a cooking show host.”

The 13-episode series will feature recipes inspired by her life on the road on tour. While on tour, Kimberly gets the chance to sample different kinds of specialties from all over North America, which she then tries to recreate at home. The series will follow her visits to the various little towns throughout her touring, and guest appearances by the rest of Little Big Town, Lauren Alaina, and Laura Bell Bundy.

Laura Bell Bundy Inspires Today’s Artistic Youth

dscf2956

Broadway sensation/Tony Award nominee turned country singer, Laura Bell Bundy, has always been interested in arts education. In fact, Laura, along with her former “Legally Blonde: The Musical” costar, Paul Canaan, runs two organizations geared toward youth and the arts – Take It From The Top and Kreative Kids.

Because of Laura’s passion for helping artistic youth follow their dreams and aspirations of pursuing careers in the arts, Laura happily dedicates her free time to serve as an inspiration to these children. Recently, she spent a night at The Orpheum Theatre High School Musical Theatre Awards as the host of the event. Laura explained, “I definitely am reminded of why I chose this as a craft. The youthful enthusiasm they have and the excitement and desire they have, it’s the same desire and excitement I had and have.”

Laura used the arts as a creative outlet to escape emotionally trying times in her personal life, and she holds the arts near and dear to her heart, hoping that today’s youth can find that same escape. At first, Laura turned to acting to help her through these hard times. “My acting work is always an outlet to what’s going on with me emotionally.”

After stints on “The Guiding Light,” “Wicked,” “Hairspray,” and a starring role in Broadway’s “Legally Blonde,” Laura focused on her love for country music. In 2010, Laura debuted her first album on a major label, “Achin’ and Shakin’,” which cleverly splits twelve tracks into two distinct parts – achin’ for the slow, heartache’y tunes; and shakin’ for the upbeat, country line-dancin’ jams. Laura is currently working on her sophomore album and will be performing at CMA Fest in Nashville on June 9.

We commend Laura on her hard work and dedication to the arts and look forward to her upcoming second album! Make sure to check out Take It From The Top and Kreative Kids to find out how you can help bring the arts to a child’s life.
