carrie underwood blown away tour pic
It’s no coincidence that Carrie Underwood‘s tour was titled the “Blown Away Tour,” as she blew away audiences and critics alike across the United States, the UK and Australia in 2012. The first leg of the 62 city tour wrapped on December 22, and according to Pollstar‘s Year-End chart, Underwood was the top female touring artist of the year.

Didn’t see Carrie in 2012? The tour will re-launch a second leg on February 13, 2012, sponsored by vitaminwater® and supported by Hunter Hayes. Additionally, $1 from each ticket sale will go to Red Cross Disaster to relief to provide shelter, food and emotional support for those in need.

Kellie Pickler.

Country music beauties Kellie Pickler, Taylor Swift, and Julianne Hough have made Maxim magazine’s 2012 Hot 100 Women list. They’re the only country stars to make the list, but are representing pretty well with the reader votes: Taylor ranks in at number 26, Kellie at number 72, and Julianne at number 47. They beat out Pippa Middleton, Nicki Minaj, Nina Dobrev and more. Supermodel Bar Refaeli took the number one spot. See the full list here on Maxim’s site.

EXCLUSIVE: Interview With HER & Kings County

herkingscounty

The most interesting band arriving on the country music scene might just be New York group HER & Kings County. They’re a group that doesn’t exactly fit the Nashville mold, but they aren’t about to make any apologies for it. The wildly entertaining group is just as fun off-stage as they are on-stage, and I had the chance to sit down with them in the Warner Music Nashville offices to find out just who exactly country music fans are going to be hearing from in the next few years – trust me, you’ll be hearing a lot from the group of six. The group has opened for a big range of acts; from Kellie Pickler, Charlie Daniels and to Kid Rock. They play their own brand of music, which they call “city country.”

HKC is made up of Monique, the fiery lead singer, Caleb, Brother Love, Justin, F-Bomb, and Wonder. They’re fun, they’re different, and they’ll definitely be an act to watch this year. Get to know Her and Kings County here before anywhere else:

VIDEO: Kingston Premieres “Dear Someone”

Late last year, we shared with our readers some new music from our favourite duo Kingston. Zach and Josh Carter were just putting the finishing touches on their EP at the time.

Now, the boys are looking ahead to 2012. Today they premiered their music video for their song “Dear Someone”. The song depicts a familiar feeling for most – the anticipation of meeting that special “someone” and falling in love.

The video shows Josh trying his luck with speed dating (which doesn’t prove to be very successful, although humorous) while Zach eagerly waits for Josh to finish up so they can go on with their show.

We love this video and can’t wait to see what the twins have in store for us with year!

Billboard magazine released its list of the top money makers last week, and country music’s own Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney both represent country in the top three. Taylor earned more than $35 million in 2011, beating out rock super-group U2 who only made $32 million last year. Kenny made over $29 million in 2011, placing third on the list. Kenny made the top five along with Lady Gaga, and Lil’ Wayne. Jason Aldean found his place in the top ten at number nine with a little over $13 million, placing just one spot behind Celine Dion. See the full list on Billboard’s site.

Other country stars making the top 40 include Toby Keith at number fifteen, Rascal Flatts at number eighteen, Tim McGraw at number nineteen, Brad Paisley at number twenty-one, Lady Antebellum at number twenty-six, Keith Urban at number twenty-seven, Zac Brown Band at number twenty-eight, and Sugarland beats Justin Bieber at number thirty-four.

Billboard uses U.S. income from tours, album and single sales, and publishing royalties to calculate their rankings. They do not include sponsorships, merchandise sales or synchronizing deals to put together their impressive list.

Exclusive: Interview with Kingston

KINGSTON

What have The Carter Twins been doing since they released their debut single, “Heart Like Memphis,” on March 16, 2009? Well first off – they changed their band name! Zach and Josh Carter are now known as Kingston, and are currently in the studio making some much awaited new music! Check out our recent interview with them where they talk about their name change, when we can expect some new music, their appearance on The X Factor, and their prom proposal with Lauren Alaina!

1. What made you decide to change your name & what is the story behind picking “Kingston?”

A: Honestly, We just felt that this was a natural evolution for us!! We like to call it Carter Twins 2.0. And as far as the story behind the name.. Zach was driving through a town called Kingston Springs TN and just thought it was a cool place and called me and was like, Hey what about Kingston for our new band name. We loved it and loved how it skewed a little older and just fit perfectly with the new music and image!

REVIEW: Taylor Swift's Speak Now Tour Leaves Fans Enchanted

Taylor Swift. photo credit: Big Machine Records
I had the pleasure of attending Taylor Swift’s sold out concert at the Staples Center on August 24. Some people are befuddled as to how this girl, who isn’t scandalous or scantily clad, could manage to sell out such a massive venue (four nights in a row, thank you very much). The answer can be answered in one word: quality.

It was clear from the moment fans stepped into the venue that the experience (and show) was going to be top quality, something especially impressive considering the top ticket price was $79.50, which is peanuts in comparison to most A-level tours. Immediately upon entering Stapes two things became very clear: Cover Girl was sponsoring this tour and girlfriend was selling a lot of merch. The merch was, for the most part, well thought out and under $30 (an ill-conceived $50 blanket being the exception). Fans had options ranging from tees (mostly $25) and glowsticks ($5) to her American Greeting Cards (lucky number 13 for $20) and, best of all, autographed CDs ($20). It’s no wonder T-Swizzle is still selling 13,000 copies a week of Speak Now.
