ACM Awards Winners

ACM-300x268

Winners have been announced for the 48th ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS, a star-studded ceremony broadcast LIVE tonight on the CBS Television Network from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.  Fans named Luke Bryan, Entertainer of the Year, the evening’s biggest honor and his first win in that category. This year marked a record breaking year with 1.1 million fans casting their vote for Entertainer of the Year and New Artist of the Year categories, combined.

Bryan co-hosted the ACM Awards for the first time ever tonight with Blake Shelton. Prior to the telecast, Bryan won for Vocal Event of the Year with Jason Aldean and Eric Church, for “The Only Way I Know,” a trophy he accepted on the GAC live red carpet pre-show. The Entertainer of the Year Award and Vocal Event of the Year mark his fourth ACM Award wins. He previously won in 2009 for both New Solo Vocalist of the Year and for New Artist of the Year.

Miranda Lambert won for the fourth consecutive year as Female Vocalist of the Year and she also took the prize for Single Record of the Year as artist, and Song of the Year, as artist and composer, for “Over You,” an award she shares with husband and co-composer Blake Shelton.  She is the leading winner of the night, with a total of four trophies in three categories.  She joins Reba and Loretta Lynn as the only other artists to win Female Vocalist of the Year four or more times.

Jason Aldean won Male Vocalist of the Year, his first win in the category.  Aldean also won for Vocal Event of the Year, with Luke Bryan and Eric Church, for “The Only Way I Know.”  This is his second consecutive win in that category; he won last year with Kelly Clarkson for “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”  In 2005, he won for New Male Vocalist of the Year.

Little Big Town won Vocal Group of the Year and, prior to the telecast, they were also awarded the trophy for Video of the Year for “Tornado.” This is their first win in both categories.  In 2006, they won for New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year.

Eric Church won Album of the Year for Chief. He also won for Vocal Event of the Year, with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan, for “The Only Way I Know.” This is his first win in both categories, and his third ACM Award overall. He won for New Solo Vocalist of the Year in 2010.

Blog Rodeo: Everyone Loves Country Music

BlogRodeoLogo

It may be hard to believe, but once upon a time, you had to trek down to a record store if you wanted to purchase new music. You’d have to buy a full album and you could only listen to the radio stations that were broadcast in your area. There was no iTunes, no iHeartradio, no Spotify. Heck, there wasn’t even a Napster. Additionally, there were no camera phones, no gossip blogs, no reality television and certainly no Twitter. It’s crazy to imagine a world without all of these things, but once upon a time, it existed.

In that world, it would be nearly impossible for a kid from New York to be exposed to country music. While the mainstream scene was full of Backstreet Boys & Britneys, cowboy hats and boots would’ve seemed out of place. That “country western” music had no place on MTV, no one cared who Shania Twain was dating, and “Amazed” by Lonestar was the most country of  country music we’d ever hear.

Fast forward less than fifteen years, and New York now has a country radio station, Taylor Swift‘s rotating boyfriends are national news & it’s no longer unusual for a country concert to sell out Madison Square Garden. Anyone anywhere in the world can go on iTunes to download that oddly catchy “merry go round song” they heard a snip of, and then they can pop on over to Spotify and stream the whole album. The world has evolved through technology, and likewise, so has country music’s role in the mainstream.

Florida-Georgia Line to remix Cruise with Nelly

After hinting for weeks, Republic Nashville’s Florida Georgia Line have exclusively announced, via their social networks, that a “Cruise” (Remix Feat. Nelly) will be available on April 2.

The breakout duo has caught the attention of several Superstars, including Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, and now, GRAMMY-winning Hip Hop artist Nelly. The sizzling collaboration will impact radio just in time for Spring and a taste of the new mix is subtly place in Nelly’s “Hey Porsche” video. Watch via http://vevo.ly/VfDGCr.
FGL’s Brian Kelley (Ormond Beach, Florida) says:
“When we caught wind that Nelly was a fan of ‘Cruise,’ we were floored. We’ve been fans of his music for years and thought it would be cool to team up on a remix.”
FGL’s Tyler Hubbard (Monroe, Georgia) adds:
“Nelly really brought a fresh, unique sound to ‘Cruise’ and we’re super excited for our fans to hear!”
With an ever-expanding fanbase, the remix is poised to follow the success of FGL’s Double Platinum, multi-week #1 smash “Cruise.” Their follow-up Country single, “Get Your Shine On,” has sold over 500,000 copies and is Top 15-and-climbing. Both songs are featured on their debut album HERE’S TO THE GOOD TIMES, which earned the highest debut album sales of 2012 for a new Country artist.
FGL’s catchy tunes and energetic live show have garnered coveted slots on two major Country tours – Taylor Swift’s “THE RED TOUR” and Luke Bryan’s “DIRT ROAD DIARIES TOUR” – this year. Next week, the hot newcomers will open for Swift’s three-night, sold-out stint at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
