Eric Church Releases Second Video In Cryptic Series

EC_TO_Cvr_5x5_300_PRINT

A distraught young woman, given a second chance. A mysterious funeral dated back in 1995. A present day heated altercation in a garage. An angry young man taking out his frustrations on a classic car with a bat. Sound like you’re watching the latest series on prime time? Is this by David Lynch?

Nope.

That was all part of Eric Church‘s video “San Destino Rising: Movimiento De Una” which, set up his latest video “A Man Who Was Gonna Die Young.” All the players are back, moving the storyline along, this time with Eric singing solemnly interspersed. This unique way of sharing the stories he tells in song on his album The Outsiders is a great way of getting fans involved in them. Says Eric:

“I love mysteries. That’s kind of where this whole video thing, when we started this teaser thing, we already had the concept for what these videos were gonna be. And we wanted it to be this big mystery, level of intrigue, that just was fun for fans that we could have this thing of trying to figure it out and looking at where clues were.”

Fans are encouraged, as the videos are released, to pay attention to the clues and characters that Eric and his team are laying down. After all, don’t we all want to know whose funeral is going on on the roadside?

“All the characters that are in that, light will be shed on them as we go through this single process and video process. Throughout this entire album, that storyline will continue to play out and the ending is quite remarkable. We’ll get to that one day.”

We are definitely looking forward to it!

Eric Church Releases “Give Me Back My Hometown”

EC_TO_Cvr_5x5_300_PRINT

Country bad-boy, Eric Church, is adding more gasoline to the flames of fans’ anticipation for the upcoming release of his new album The Outsiders, with the release of the second single “Give Me Back My Hometown“.

This wistful song, written by Church and Luke Laird, is sure to be a hit with listeners who grooved on out to “Like Jesus Does” and “Homeboy“. Simultaneously rock and country, and all signature Eric Church, “Give Me Back My Hometown” follows quick on the heels of the highly touted first single “The Outsiders“.

“Church was already at the vanguard of contemporary country’s rock movement… Like a modern-day Lynyrd Skynyrd, Church manages to be simultaneously more rock’n’roll and good-old-boy than anyone else out there – no easy task,” Billboard Magazine wrote about this ACM and CMA award winner. And Rolling Stone named “The Outsiders” one of the “100 Best Songs of 2013″ citing “Leave it to the classic rock-loving Nashville badass to cook up the heaviest ‘country’ song in years – a radio hit that plays like some demon spawn of Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, and “Born to Be Wild.”"

The Outsiders will be Church’s fourth studio album and fourth collaboration with producer Jay Joyce (Emmylou Harris, Little Big Town) and follows in the footsteps of Platinum-certified Chief, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts.

Big boots to fill, but “Give Me Back My Hometown” goes a long way to filling them.

To purchase “Give Me Back My Hometown” you can go to iTunes.

REVIEW: Eric Church – Blood, Sweat & Beers – Ottawa, ON

Eric Church. Photo: John Peets

Say what you will about the divide in country music: whether you’re a pop-country crossover supporter, or a traditionalist country fan, you can’t deny the power that is Eric Church. He brought his Blood, Sweat and Beers Tour to Ottawa on February 16th, 2013, giving fans in the Valley their first country show of 2013. It was the first headlining date in the capital region for the rock-country superstar, who previously played in Ottawa when he opened for Dierks Bentley.

Most of Eric’s dates on the Canadian leg of his current tour were sell outs: even selling more tickets than the legendary Bon Jovi in some markets. Not bad for a pretty simple set, which didn’t even include a main video screen. He did bring plenty of pyro, smoke effects, and showed up his piano skills in his encore of the GRAMMY nominated “Springsteen.” (Read our interview with “Springsteen” co-writer Ryan Tyndell here).

Eric came to Ottawa ready to rock, and rock he did. “Y’all can kick the rest of Canada’s asses,” he announced early into his set. Whoever in the crowd wasn’t already on their feet finally got up after that.
