Country music icon Kenny Rogers will be teaming back up with Dolly Parton on his brand new album! The two pair up on “You Can’t Make Old Friends,” the title track from his new record due out October 8th on Warner Music. It was thirty years ago, almost to the day, when Kenny and Dolly recorded “Islands In The Stream.”
It’s a big deal for Kenny, who shares his excitement to be working with Dolly again:
“What a thrill it was for me to work again with my buddy, Dolly Parton, and what a special song. Working with Dolly is always a little like going home. Everything felt comfortable.”
With a collaboration of producers, including Kyle Lehning, Warren Hartman, and Dann Huff, You Can’t Make Old Friends is Rogers’ first country album since the release of Water & Bridges in 2006. Kenny considers this upcoming release the most varied and complete album of his lifetime.
“I can honestly say this may be the best album I’ve ever recorded. The musical diversity is extraordinary. It goes from songs I would normally sing, to songs I would normally never even listen to. In this business, you do albums to both grow artistically, and for the sheer love of music. We chose what I think are the most diverse and best songs I’ve ever had access to.”
You Can’t Make Old Friends showcases a certain familiarity that can be expected from Kenny Rogers, along with fresh twists of creativity that see the versatile Grammy Award-winner stretching his artistry into new musical territory. In addition to the great story songs and love songs Kenny has become well known for, flavors of rock and roll, soul, gospel, southern rock, zydeco, and sounds of the Southwest are embraced in this bold recording.

Dolly Parton‘s self-written song, “Coat of Many Colors,” was added to The Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. Each year, the Library of Congress selects twenty-five songs that are at least ten years old and are categorized as “historically”, “culturally”, or “aesthetically significant” to be added to the National Recording Registry. With this year’s selections, the total number of recordings in the registry is now 350.
“Coat of Many Colors” recounts Parton’s own impoverished childhood. In “Coat of Many Colors,” Parton sings “My coat of many colors that my momma made for me; Made only from rags but I wore it so proudly; Although we had no money oh I was rich as I could be; In my coat of many colors my momma made for me.” The song aided in establishing Parton’s credibility as a songwriter. Parton has called this song her favorite of her compositions because of the attitude and philosophy it reflects.
The Library of Congress strives to preserve the selections on the National Recording Registry so they will forever be available for future generations to experience. Song nominations for the registry come from online submissions from the public and from the National Recording Preservation Board, comprised of leaders in music, recorded sound and preservation.

Woah Dolly! Country music queen Dolly Parton has announced plans to bring a major family entertainment complex to Nashville. She’ll be teaming up with Gaylord Entertainment to bring a 114-acre family entertainment zone adjacent to the Gaylord Opry Resort & Convention Center. The first announced phase will be a $50 million water and snow park, the first in the United States. The park is set to open in 2014.
The theme park will have future expansion, but phase one will contain both a water park and a snow park for Winter activities. The first-year attendance is already expected to be around 500,000 people! They’re also expecting to hire 450 Nashville locals for the theme park for both full and part time.
“I’m so excited about this opportunity,” Dolly said. “I am confident that partnering my Dollywood Company with a great company like Gaylord will create something truly special. We’re all working on new types of entertainment to do in the daytime and nighttime for the whole family so we bring new folks to the area year round.”
