Nashville Independent Award-winning duo Haley & Michaels have just shared the official video for “Wanted,” their acoustic rendition of Hunter Hayes’ chart topping hit. The pop-country duo’s self-titled debut album, with studio work by Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat/Five For Fighting) and Warren Huart (The Fray/James Blunt), is due out later this year. Fans can be sure to check out the lyric video for the single, “The Price I Pay,” which we have posted below, and keep an eye out for an official music video coming soon. It’s a beautiful song!
The duo, often compared to the likes of Lady Antebellum and The Band Perry, met in Nashville in January 2011 and played their first show together that December at The Red Devil Lounge near their shared hometown in the San Francisco Bay area. Music Connection asserted that the “radio-ready first single brilliantly showcases the tight, well-blended harmonies that are close to constant in their music.”

Fans of “Lover, Lover” hit maker Jerrod Niemann can finally rejoice. His sophomore major label album, Free the Music, will finally be hitting stores on October 2. The album has been a work in progress for two years, and features the summer hit “Shinin’ On Me.”
Niemann took his time recording the album and did so in a less-than-traditional manner. He used his live band, rather than studio musicians and also included brass wind horns throughout the record. For Jerrod, the album title is certainly telling. “Free The Music is an album where I wanted to do just that,” says Niemann. “It’s a project honoring many different layers and colors that have appeared in the country genre since recorded music began.”
The album was co-produced by Niemann and Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury producer, Dave Brainard. The album shows off his musical flare, especially on the standout track “Real Women Drink Beer,” which is a unique combo of rockabilly and reggae. He also collaborated with breezy guest vocalist Colbie Caillat on the ballad, “All About You.”
Jerrod Kicked off CMA Festival last Monday, June 4, at his Fan Club Party with Lee Brice to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Nearly 400 fans attended the party, and both Niemann and Brice signed autographs for 10 hours to sign autographs and meet and greet each fan.
Devoted fan Drena Knorr was celebrating her birthday that night and said, “I appreciate the fact that they’re taking time to spend with everyone — that’s one of both artists’ best qualities. It’s been a really long day. All I want to do for my birthday is meet Jerrod and Lee.” She had patiently waiting in line from 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon to 11:30 p.m. that night.
Niemann is currently supporting Miranda Lambert on her “On Fire” tour and will be announcing more tour dates of his own soon. For more info and concert dates, visit www.jerrodniemannofficial.com.
This past week, we caught up with country/pop duo Jenny & Ashley while out on the road in California. They spent last year touring summer camps, festivals and middle schools, making TV appearances and singing the national anthem at ballparks. Now it’s time to see what they’re up to this year! See what these two teenage stars had to say about staying grounded, writing, what it was like to record with Tim McGraw’s co-producer Darran Smith, who they would love to go on tour with, some of their favorite fan encounters, funny stories on the road, and a little get to know them better session!
For some of our readers who might not know much about you, can you tell us a little bit about yourselves?
Jenny: Absolutely! We were born in Wisconsin and we always loved to sing! We would sing in our backyard, to our neighbors, then our dad got a job transfer out to California right around the time we were 7 and 9. We started doing acting and everything in LA, and we just loved the entertainment business so much. We fell in love with country music so that took us out to Nashville. We also love writing music. In Nashville we’ve been pursuing things for about 2 years now as Jenny & Ashley. Our dad works in Miami so we’re between the two places.
Ashley: And we’re sisters! I’m 14 almost 15 and Jenny is 16. Ever since then we’ve been pursuing our county music dream and just seeing where it takes us!
